That's because the people of Nagaland (a state in North East India) use Nagamese creole ( borrowed from Assamese language which is similar to Bengali language and mixed a few percentage of dialect/language with the local language) as a common language to communicate with different tribes of Nagaland. I would say 70-80 % of Nagamese creole language are taken from Assamese language. Hence any Assamese and Bengali people understand Nagamese creole language by atleast 60-70%.

@UA-cam authorities Hindi/Bengali/Assamese; they almost sounds similar. Eg. Kapur/kapra/ Naam/( they belongs to Indo European languages). A Bengali/assamese people who is not familiar with hindi language can learn hindi easily than the people of Sino Tibeto Burman langguage family( people from NE India) as the language of Hindi/Assamese/Bengali is quite similar but Sino Tibeto Burman language is very different from Indo European family
