Accidental Icon: 64 Year-Old Fordham Professor Becomes A Fashion Star | NBC Nightly News
This woman is much older than 64. Look at her neck. Let's be honest.
I absolutely love Lyn Slater. The clothes and the attitude is exactly what the world needs. I'm 69, and I'm just not changing my attire according to what society thinks I should look like. Why is everyone so concerned about her age. This woman looks classy and sophisticated. I admire her style and energy.
Shes just a very trendy New Yorker. Her body type is also a plus for her. Being a professor just adds to the interest of her but I dont particularly find her interesting.
Love her attitude, mindset, and sense of fashion! 😍 "Out of the box" of conformity and traditional views of how older women are supposed to dress. Love it! 😊
She looks trendy, but she looks older than 64
She is awesome. She looks good and wears her fashion very well. It doesn't matter how old folk think she looks she is doing a great job of modeling and wearing fashion very well. I wish she would mail me a pair of glasses and some earrings to help me out. (I am older than she is and need to get my groove going like she does). God Bless this awesome Woman.
I just love her look.I found her on Pinterest and never thought about her age.
My mom is 68 and she looks much younger than her. But I love her style. There's a trend and a hunt for older icons because the industry realized that's the age group where the money is in. It's that simple.
Your first sentence was extremely rude.
@@adelinenicholas7075 seriously rude!!! Like who cares how your mom looks? This isnt about you?
@@sambrownsings you're a guy. You wouldn't understand.
@@adelinenicholas7075 I'm agreeing with you gurl
@@sambrownsings OOO I like the gurl stuff!! I'm going to be 63.
I love Lyn Slater . But I was assuming that she is on this video 85 , I even suggested her style for my mam who is 85 . She is not 64 .
Well, professors tend to wrinkle more, because of the tension
she is definitely not 64. I'm 60. My Mum at 87 worked at Lord & Taylor and looked about her age.
I thrive to be at this level of “I don’t care what society thinks”
OK - I'm reading all the negative comments about her wrinkles. Skin aging depends on many factors - rapid weight loss, smoking, pollution, sun damage, inability to metabolize and store collagen and elastin proteins, and some of it due to genetics. For all of you making the snotty comments - karma is a beesh and it's one you won't escape no matter how hard you try. I love her style, her personality, her wit, and her confidence. Those are the things that count.
I just read some of the comments and of course we're back to comments about her looks. Geez. That's American for you. Let's try to keep up with what she is saying.
oh my gosh...she's a natural! I think it's fantastic! No wonder the paparazzi mistaken her for someone else...and who was that someone else and what does she say about all this?? lol
LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gorgeous hair nice body and excellent style.
This old woman is NOT in her 60's. PLEASE PEOPLE. More likely early 70's.
I love her she is slamming
Love Her!!❤❤✌
She looks older than 64, however, she can afford to look fashionable. That is a privaledge.
There has recently been a couple other news show clips highlighting fashion “icons” dressing great but most of all had this fabulous attitude. The difference in the other cases was the fashion was all created from a budget, including thrift stores.
Such an inspiration to women over 60!
I love her style but she looks like she’s in her 80’s.
Seriously?? Is it possible that we've become so brainwashed by youth and plastic surgery in beauty industry and pop culture that we no longer know what a typical woman in her 60's looks like? I think saying she looks like she's in her 80's is a bit exaggerated.
I love her style. I'm 60 and don't look nearly as old and many say I look 10 years younger, plus I have a couple of friends who are older than or the same age as she is and look their age or younger than she does and have not had any "work" done. What I will say is I believe her very slim frame adds to making her look older as it makes the skin sag and droop. I'm an avid gym goer & a healthy weight, however, I'm not trying to be 120 lbs. like I was in my 20s and 30s. As we age, sagging skin is always a problem and when one is too thin the skin has nothing to "hold on too" and will sag off the bones. Many of the gym instructors have said the same thing in private to some of us!! That having a little extra weight after a certain age is not a bad thing if you want to look fitter and younger as long as it's not so much weight that it becomes unhealthy! I'm 5'4" and went from 172 lbs. to 150 lbs. a few years ago and at 172 I looked younger, but I look good at 150 as well and don't want to lose anymore weight. There's a few over 50 women who weigh 120 or less and they look way older even tho they are slimmer. No thanks!! I've seen it at my gym with older women who do work out and are very slim who seem to look older than the ones who are not super slim yet do work out and look a bit tighter and firmer. It's weird but it's true.
If she looks “80” she dresses a whole lot better than me and I’m in my 50s. Her style is immense.
I agree as I said I LOVE her style, however, she is very thin and sometimes as we age being super thin isn't a great look and makes one look older. My son's g/f's mom is her age and she looks waaaaaay younger and isn't as slim as her. As I said above, better to weigh a few more lbs. after a certain age, and not have such saggy skin on her face (especially around her mouth), jowls and neck. My mom had less wrinkles on her face at 78 than this woman does at 64. She looks like she's 74 in the face, 10 years older in my opinion.
@rtp1968: So what? It just proves her point, don't stay in the box. More power to her.
Her age is not relevant ,what it relevant is her style , her uniqueness, the fact that at this stage of Life she is recognizance an able to achieve so much in an industry known to focus on youth! I very much pplaud her!!!!!!
Good for her!
64 is NOT that old these days ! This is NOT your grandparents generation ! BTW, this women looks well over 64, I would guess her 76 yrs old !
You just don’t like the fact that a 64-year-old doesn’t mind having gray hair and looking her age. I think she’s terrific!
I agree she does look older than 64 and not because of her gray hair. Her skin is more akin to an older woman.
@@joniheisenberg6691 Yes. I guessed mid/ late 70s. Not that she GAF & though I’m happy she hasn’t had obvious face lift/ plastic surgery- early/ mid 60s looks a lot younger than that nowadays, if you take good care of your skin.
Rachel Zoe has the same face re the ageing ... Around the mouth - thinking she is older than stated; either way - who cares ... Lyn is stunning & supremely stylish - as is her much younger counter-part, Rachel Zoe - both style ICONS!
so glad that others think she is well over 64
Comeon' can't a girl lie about her age anymore?
Shes definitely much older than 64...in her 80s. You can tell by how she moves. Slowly
My 90 year old mother looks about the same age as her. Sorry but although she is very thin and has a good hair cut, her face might be the oldest looking one I've seen for her age.
she probably lied about her age
Lovely but more truth with age would be much more beautiful.....
slay queen
If she is 64 I am 44.
Susan Sims More like 74!
Rita G : I was thinking more like 80👵🏻
Shes in her 80s. Talks and walks like it
Why the sunshades?
What's with the sunglasses
I like your style. I wish I m tall like you to be able to wear anything I like. And I need your attitude. I always feel I m being criticize or making fun of when I dress the style I like.
64 really she looks like she is much older what is up with that, I have seen black women in their 70,s that look like they are in their 50's they could have pick a younger looking 64 wow.....
I thought it was, she started at 64... facebook.com/BuzzFeedNews/videos/1778513792169631/
Black don't crack, lol. My good friend who is 72 is black and still looks the same as she did when she was 50!!!!
I agreed with you Luanne, I though she was much older than that! Actually I was sad when I discovered how old she was, because I'm 62 years old, but I don't look like that!
Well, professor, deadlines, papers, overtiming hmm
She looks 84 years old.
If this is what 84 looks like, I hope I look this good at that age.
she looks over 100
Stephen Collins so what , we should respect age , we all are going to get old.
Stephen Collins again lear respect she tiny and beautiful
IT'S ABOUT TIME! When I was in my teens the saying was, ''Don't pay any attention to anyone over 30.'' LOL. How stupid. American has been just about the only country that has no respect for the wisdom of the elders. Time to turn that around. C'mon all you Baby Boomers, get a new attitude, go to the gym, buy some clothes that don't have elastic waistbands, and get a life, that's what I'm doing. LOL.
Wonderful Professor Slater! From the Fordham University Class of 1980 (Yes, we are your age) Facebook site: facebook.com/groups/537184563628982/about
Teachers like her produced the problems of today.
