I been fan since the beginning and ik you had knowore than me. Besides being really good. The wrestler always going win as long as he's bigger and stronger and it's obvious Islam is stronger and bigger just by looking at him . You yourself tried to do wvr it takes and these guys figured something out that no one else knows are does. Even if it's considered cheating I won't bc I understand the game. Fair game . I just don't like them for personal reasons the same way thier fans don't like us .
We all seen something in Charles that people blocked out. Charles almost lost his last fights with strikers, plus he had a lot of losses in past. So he had quit in him.
He just needed the right guy to make him quit. Islam succeeded easy. We knew it would happen like that.
I am disappointed in all the pro who didn’t see it and picked Charles. They underestimated Islam. How could they underestimate a guy who trained with the absolute best like Khabib. Islam and Khabib have trained 1000 times. I picked Islam 1000 times over Charles. Easy pick.
Charles landed an upkick at the end of the first round that almost put Islam away. That upkick almost stopped Islam and would’ve stopped a lot of opponents.
In every single interview he mentioned that all opponents of Olivera knock him down but are scared to follow him to the ground but he not gonna do the mistake. And I and I’m sure many others was thinking yeah Islam we know you not scared but how do you gonna knock him down first place? And now he literally did it.

There was never any legitimate reason to ask that question, Islam clearly has better striking than Oliviera. Anyone who has carefully watched their fights knew Islam is on a different level ,including his striking, him proving it beyond doubt today was totally expected.

The reality is many mma fans are in reality fans of the story. Look at them flock fighters like gustaffson , hooker and oliveira. They care too much about "oh hes so likeable, oh hes so humble, oh he came from poberty". I and many others have been saying the same, that Oliveira gets hit too much, and if gaethje or poirier or chandler had pushed when he was downed they would have won. Good for oliveira hes good, but hes not getting near that belt again.

I gotta say I was very impressed with Islam's performance and physique. That man was in 100% ready to go condition. He had a great game plan and his striking was sharper than ever. And I think Charles recognized it very quickly and was slightly intimidated. Just enough to take Charley off his game. Good job Islam.....
I think the key was the grappling strength of Islam. Charles has been dropped multiple times in last few fights, but opponent couldn’t take advantage. Islam dropped him, then turned into a python and ended it.
That’s cause he trained with Usman Nurmagomedov, the soon to be Bellator lw champ whose striking is off the charts.

You could see the look on Charles's face, and his demeanor change as soon as Islam started tagging Charles a couple times. Islam was fast and accurate. His defense was better than ever. When you look at any of his previous fights, he never looked this sharp and Charlie knew it. It's gonna be very interesting to see how he looks in his next fight. Will he be better? There was a vid out a year or so ago where Khabib was telling a younger guy on his team that in the early stages of a fight, if you’re on top but can’t break through, and you felt that you could take the guy down easily, to give him room to get up and ride your weight on him… basically he was saying it would really tire out the opponent to give them space to stand but make them carry your weight the entire time… do that a few times and the guy is dead tired. You can see Khabib do it with Poirier
Crazy end result, am I suprised, yes a little bit. Gaetjhe, Chandler and Poirier are no picnic in the park. This just goes to show that hard work, determination and humility goes a long way. Charles much respect to you brother. Islam what a win, you just showed the world that you belonged there and are now the man to beat in the UFC's most stacked division.

The fight played out exactly as I expected it to. I knew if Charles was going to settle in and fight from his back that he had no chance. @@Dualities I don’t understand this argument of “home turf” for Islam. Didn’t Charles defend his title in the US against Gaethje and Poirier? That’s home turf for them and they were the challengers then as well. The UFC has a contract with Abu Dhabi - at the end of the day, it’s a business, and a business is there to make money. There was no weight advantage? They both hit the scales on the same weight. How they choose to go in to the fight, wether lighter or heavier, is their choice. This has always been a part of the sport.

Much respect uncle Chael, but are you forgetting Anderson vs you the first go. You beat the tar out of him for nearly 5 rounds. However his perseverance and belief in his ground game off his back won the day for him. You definitely won the fighting, but he won the match. Yet we all still hold you in the highest regard.

I do know what you mean chael and I think what you’re talking about is punch resistance and durability decreasing over time but fighters do get better through the lessons that come in the ring/octagon when you consistently take on the very best guys. So to that extent Charles had advantages and was the more proven fighter at the top level.

My thoughts going into this fight was that Charles didn’t seem too loose going into it. His past few fights he was bouncing around staring his opponent down. When he came out and got into the octagon he didn’t even look at Islam up until the fight started. He definitely seemed off. Meanwhile when Islam came out he was smiling which is something you don’t see often. I told everyone before the fight that Islam will have zero issue taking Charles down but the struggle will begin once they are on the ground. What I didn’t actualize was Islam beating Charles standing up. Combine Islams decent stand up game with his grossly strong ground game and no amount of Jiu Jitsu could have beat that. Islams Sambo outclassed Charles on every level and Islams Dagestani wrestling crushed Charles. One thing people don’t talk about is Islams unique submissions. Typically you would see triangle chokes, rear naked chokes, and such in the UFC but if you look back on Islams submissions he has some crazy submissions. The champ has a name and it’s Islam Makhachev.

Charles lost because he was battered on the feet. People will talk about the ground but, he only lost on the ground (at that point) because of being damaged on the feet. If not for having took that damage, he would have remained competitive on the ground for much longer. His lack of head movement finally caught up to him

I think after the first round, it was clear to everyone (Oliveira included) that the only way Oliveira could win would be on his feet. He had nothing for Islam on the ground and got absolutely dominated in the first round. Second round, Islam showed him that he also had nothing for him on his feet.
No, Charles took damage with Chandler, Poirier & Gaehtje but he win anyway. Charles lost because Islam is willing to go down with Charles & able to dominate Charles on the ground. Chandler wasnt able to dominate.
I wouldnt call being suffocated on the ground as being competitive. After the 1st round Charles simply doesnt want to be on the ground with Islam. Charles did a good job defending the TD in the 2nd round, he doesnt want to go down again.
What made olivera lose, was his Greed for a knock out...Look at all his exchanges on the feet...Only throwing POWER ENDING punches...To make it worse ,Islam was fast ,quick outta there ...threw the game plan out, telegraphing every shot ,no set ups, no headmovement ,. And Islam took advantage.....btw, IAM a BIG OLIVERA FAN.
Charles lost because he found someone who was a better grappler than he was and couldn't win via submission. His record submission wins were nullified by a Sambo fighter who knows his stuff. Striking wise, Charles relied on power, but never proven to have overall technique. This is exactly is the issue is that people view stats like "most submissions in UFC history" to judge how good a grappler is. Such stats don't prove much because they are many levels to grappling in competition. The stat itself is used more like a highlight reel type of stat. It is like showing KO highlights. Highlights don't contextualize the skill level. At least it is not presented that way. Even Islam was making note of this in conversations about Brazilian Jiujitsu blackbelts and how overrated the black belt is. This is true, in martial arts a black belt is not even considered a level of someone's true skill, they just mastered the techniques to become a black belt, it is not a measure of overall grappling skill. After you receive a black belt, you are just beginning to put all the pieces together to learn effectively. Fighters like Islam or Khabib are not afraid of Brazilian Jiujitsu blackbelts. Islam's camp said straight up, if Charles wants to roll, we're gonna roll, and not only that, Islam will take him down. The truth is, both Islam, and Khabib are better grapplers than Charles, and that alone removes a huge chunk of the perceived aura. Islam and Khabib have a lifetime of grappling experience. They're the real deal and the most complete grapplers in MMA history. If you knew their mentality, and training, you would not be surprised if they keep winning. A hardcore MMA fan understands styles, strategy, and training regime. Casuals follow stats and highlight reels.
