    Thanks for doing the SCT review on the fireball tool scraper. I've been eye balling it for a while, and you convinced me that I need one. I'll have to ask my wife for an advance on my allowance, but I need a reliable way of knocking BBs and spatter off of my welding table... I also fully agree with your comments about companies that provide a lifetime warranty.. Cheers

    Nice having that cnc plasma to cut that big stuff out. A friend of mine has a neat trick for piercing thick plate. He'll set up a program that will locate pierce points, but not pierce or cut. Then he'll use a mag drill to drill out the spots where the plasma would normally try and pierce it. Then he runs the real program to do the cuts. Works great for odd shaped holes where a drill hog won't work.

    The easiest way we found to remove the dross from the edge of a cut part is to gently tap it at a 45 with a very light hammer. 99.5% will just snap off the plate. (It feels like 7018 slag peel when stick welding!)

    When you can cut 1 inch plate with electricity and compressed air you got some stuff I had a Miller 675 Xtreme and it would do 3/4” never cut it but it’ll do it. 1 inch is a game changer.

    Edge start isn't an issue. The kerf angle a smallish plasma cutter leaves on 1" generally is. Even a G-1000 isn't quite up to the task. A G-1250 does much better.

    p-max 85 will pierce 1”. set pierce height to 0.3” and use an old blown out cartridge. once it blows through, pause the machine and switch to a fresh cartridge to finish the job. OR skip ahead to the next pierce, rinse and repeat. once all the holes have been punched, switch to a fresh cartridge and re run the program and allow it to actually cut the parts.

      @@Freedomfabrication777 To clarify, the torch itself is a Hypertherm, not a Koike. My Hypertherm 85 machine torch looks very different. My is roughly 14” long and has a white body. I understand that the plasma power supply is a Hypertherm 85. The torch attached to the Koike carriage doesn’t look like a Hypertherm, hence the question. Your videos are excellent, really appreciate all the effort that you put into them. Look forward to the next one. I purchased a scraper based upon your previous recommendation/review. I have to agree with you, it is an excellent addition to the shop. The heft of the tool makes it very useful.

      @Freedomfabrication777 Рік тому

      @@kgrant594 just double checked on the torch on the machine, and it is in fact a Hypertherm. Not sure if you knew this, but the hypertherm powermax model had been replaced by the powermax SYNC system, which has the one piece consumables. Maybe that’s why it looks different? Not sure. Thank you for the positive feedback and for watching!

    • @Freedomfabrication777

      Typically working on equipment With a “T” joint and a triple pass weld you don’t have to bevel that plate. Between running Dual shield and with the size of the weld I put on there, it’s not going anywhere. That’s quite common working on heavy equipment. Thanks for watching!

      When I welded at CAT we didn't have beveled joints but the welding machines used dual shield wire and had enough power to poke a hole through 3/8" maybe even 1//2" plate in a heart beat.

    How much should I charge for a job like this for labor only please??

    • @Freedomfabrication777
      @Freedomfabrication777 3 місяці тому +1

      I really can’t answer that. You need to decide that, and here’s why:
      1. What is your skill level? The better welder you are, the more you can charge.
      2. What type of equipment do you have? The better equipment you have usually translates to a better finished product.
      3. What do they charge in your area? Hourly rates vary by location.
      I hope this helps. Watch my video on “how to bid welding jobs”. Good luck in your endeavors. Thanks for watching!
