    Usually you cut off the leaf stalk to about 3 inches above the ground, that way they can establish better. The state of Michigan considers them an invasive species.

  • @Rocco411
    @Rocco411 Рік тому +9

    I watch John lords secret garden and whenever he transplants he grabs the leaf in his hand and cuts about 2/3 of the leaf off. He says it’s easier on the plant not to have to supply that huge leaf with water and nutrients. It might help then have an easier recovery. 😊

    If the butternut don't stand back up, don't fret, because they act a lot like cala lillies...just cut them off deep in the stem and they'll grow right up again next Spring. 🌿 I also love that you use existing resouces for your garden...🌿

    I finally figured out what the invasive plant behind my garage is, it’s coral berry. I think the ladies planted it years ago and it sends roots out everywhere. Between the coral berry roots and the black raspberry bush roots I’m going to be digging out new plants for awhile. I’m going to be doing some winter planning for that area, I won’t get bored. 🌸💚🙃

    Maybe some day we will meet. I don’t want to give my location away but Nate will know that my home is near the home of the Hawkeyes so not too far from you. Your such a sweet young lady P. Jes, I wish my daughters were into gardening but they’re not so much. My youngest (42) is coming along but she lives in Va.😢. She did mention that she wanted a magnolia tree so I bought her one and had it sent to her. It will be fun to see where she ends up putting it when I go back down there next year. I have given her plant divisions over the years and most are doing very well but gardening isn’t her passion. Well I’ve bent your ear enough, you have beautiful gardens and from this mom I’m proud of you! 🌸💚🙃

    Beautiful! Love watching your video! I would like to share a little idea for your weigelas rose and wine! My mom has those and they get pretty tall… it would be really nice if you remove the lower branches and trim it as a small tree (with multiple trunks)!! That way the branches would kind of hug the corner of the ac and go above, and the side branches would be removed. And you could use the space under to plant lower small things! Just an idea! :)

    Went shopping for some butter burr and your right I can’t find it anywhere. Maybe next spring I’ll have better luck. Someone mentioned that it’s invasive in Michigan, my thoughts are that I will have to keep it watered and where I don’t water it it will more than likely die. I did order another cold hardy banana tree. The one I have I really don’t want to dig up right now so I’ll get this one started and move the one I have this spring. I’m pretty excited for a tropical “room”. I plan on caladiums, elephant ears, banana trees maybe some fern and a tropical hibiscus that I can move in and out during the winter months. I can’t wait! 🌸💚🙃

    That was a ton of work! I love the Butterbur, I've never heard of them. I know Prince Charles has a plant, Gunnera, that looks similar on top of his stumpery at High Grove. BTW, a stumpery would be a great way to use your old stumps if you have any. The zinnias are looking gorgeous, they were so small when you planted them, and they really grew fast. All the color on that side of the house is beautiful.

It is invasive and it also said you may want to wear gloves and protective clothing-so my thought is if it has this caution, it's not gonna be my ground cover of choice that may run rampant. Please reconsider planting the Lily of the Valley. It is extremely aggressive and will outcompete the native flora in the area. This has damaging longterm effects on the local ecosystem as food sources for native wildlife are diminished putting many species at risk. I live in Ontario, Canada and we have seen acres and acres of forests completely overtaken by it. If you are looking for a ground cover, there are lots of native options that are beautiful and beneficial to the environment 🙂
