There’s plenty of cons to owning a Ragdoll such as: Firstly Fur shedding lots of it at spring time the fur will go everywhere you’ll notice on your hands on your food, clothing all over the house. Invest in a good grooming kit but still expect fur to go all over. A hand held vacuum is very handy. Secondly being indoor cats you’ll need to keep their litter try spotless otherwise it will stink. Thirdly at some point they will get waste stuck to their buts and on occasion will get waste stuck to their paws when trying to cover it up. So you’ll need to check and clean them. A lot of Ragdolls tend to get over weight quickly, a 4kg cat only really needs around 170g of wet food a day to keep them in tip top shape with the odd chew stick thrown in. Overweight leads to kidney and other diseases 7-8 years down the line which is avoidable through diet control. Finally the pee nightmare as maturing males will start to pee around specific areas of your house trying to attract a lady cat. This is like a lottery some will do it some won’t. Be ready to wipe your skirting boards with lemon fresh anti bacterial wipes.
Thank you for your comment. It's good that people know this before purchasing a Ragdoll. You must indeed take good care of your Ragdoll cat, healthy food, and not too much, spotless litter. The fur is a problem you're likely to have with any other cat and few dog breeds as well. I always prefer indoor cats, so the toilet thing isn't exactly ragdoll-only either. Any male will pee and mark your house if you won't have them fixed. The only problem that certainly is a ragdoll-thing here is the waste-problem. Not sure if it is the human that attracts that behavior out of them...who knows. I put my last one to sleep about 6 years ago, and now I am ready for a ragdoll or a ragamuffin :)
David McIntire Ragdolls are very much a loyal breed. And they truest are a breed that will not leave your side until you physically leave the house. Mine will not leave my room if I don’t. He doesn’t wanna be touched and cuddles necessarily... but he must always be in eyesight of me
Maybe with most cats. I've been fortunate enough to have one that's extremely docile and follows rules. He's definitely a ground dweller, comes when called, stays out of 'no go' zones in the house (for instance where the guinea pigs are) and moves if he's laying in my way when I walk. I was a dog trainer for a long time and I guess he's just dog-like enough to learn like that. Who knows? I'd still say we're more on cooperative grounds though. While he knows 'trick' commands, I only ask him to do what will keep peace between us both. ;) He's been a pleasure to have in the house!
Add more fishoil to your furry friend's diet. And brush often. Also a humidifier will help too with hair sticking to your clothing with static I add a drop of Downey to the watef. Seems to help. Also makes the home smell wonderful.
We had 2 of the most beautiful rag dolls. We lost our little girl from a rare blood Desease, but our little boy is still kicking and being clingy, being loving, being a stinker at times and giving us No privacy, but we love him totally. Our great granddaughter loves him to the point of his frustration at times. She is 8 and he is 11 in human years, but her perseverance in chasing him down at bedtime to sleep with her, even when she can’t convince him everytime (she loves to cuddle and being a kid, holds him a little tighter than he likes, but that doesn’t stop him from climbing back in bed with her after she goes to sleep. He and his sister slept with us until we began to raise a baby girl. He was so intrigued with her that they became great friends. It’s been over a year since we lost his sister and yes he went through a grieving time just as we did, but it hasn’t really changed him. We all love him so much, I dread the day he passes from us. I miss our little (fat and sassy large) sissy cat. If you love your rag dolls show them. If you have a rag doll and rally don’t know why or don’t want it...send it to me, I’ll love it and love you for making the best decision for your rag doll kitty. 🥰
Just like my Joey. Joey the 30 pound velvet pawed cat. His love affection and loyalty to mama outsize his actual body size. He's THE most loving cat ever.
“No privacy” - ok, my dog “Huge” - ok, my dog again “Wont touch grass” - ok, so its not my dog with claws phew “Willful and sometimes want a belly rub instead of playing” - my dog again “Have to be on time” - ok, I can’t get one
I have 2 ragdoll cats that are siblings & this is such an accurate representation. Besides the constant hairballs & lint rolling, I wouldn't change a thing:) Thanks for sharing your baby w/ us❤
The belly rubs! My friend's 2 ragdoll cats are the only cats I know who genuinely enjoy getting their belly rubbed. It is so adorable, and they are so soft.
@@nou7813 I took her to get checked and they said she was nurtured which means it was someone’s cat. Then a neighbor said this couple moved to Florida but trapped the cat inside. :( when the landlord came he just let the cat outside but she was so skinny from starvation. After some time her fur grew full and vibrant. :)
No, they won't get out of your way...and I walk with a cane, a lot of strategic step-overs. My Fidget is very strong willed. She has her routines that MUST be followed. If not, she stamps her front paws and "huffs and puffs" in frustration. Breaking routine is just not acceptable. If I eat ice cream, she sits next to me and begs. If my husband eats ice cream and I'm not...she sits next to ME and begs. She will jump up on the couch next to hubby. However, I have to pick her up and put her on the couch. If I don't, there is foot stomping, the huff and puff, and finally she gives up and walks away, because her routine is not being followed. Sounds like I'm complaining, but I'm not. She is the most intelligent cat I have ever owned. You can watch the wheels turning in her head as she tries to figure something out. Yes, she problem solves. I love her to bits!

Conclusion: i need to get used to have an opened door at all times, clear up as much space as possible to compensate for their size, be extremely aware of the average behaviour of most cats when they want to play and when they want to be pet, find out how to convice cats of moving and only then can i allow myself to try and find one i could own
Before I met my wife I hated cats. Then things changed in my life as she bred Ragdoll cats, so we had loads around the house, including many kittens. She was a member of the Progressive Ragdoll Breed Cat Club so I joined too and when she became a committee member, I became one too. Now twelve years later I'm the Club Treasurer and editor of the Club magazine, Rags Progress.
What a beautiful boy.. I thought ours was the only one that lies like a big huss bag with his legs apart but seems its quite common, there are no cons to a ragdoll, the most loving and loyal cat ever
my ragdoll Rosie follows me everywhere even the bathroom haha sometimes ill be at my computer and she will sit at my feet and look at me until i look back. She meows to let me know she wants to be cuddled and given kisses. Super sweet cat i love her
We just adopted a 1 yr old ragdoll who was so shy. She is also very petite and skinny, we’re feeding her well. We just LOVE our Missy and so does our miniature poodle.
I have two and, although they are just like Bowie, I have never been happier. I was always a doggie person, still am at heart, but my two are like a cross between a cat and a dog! There are no cons in living with these amazing, lovely, funny, loving cats.
Everytime I get ready for work my Ragdoll will lay on my clothes and in front of doors. He loves car rides. Anytime we put on shoes he stands and stares at the door waiting to come along. It breaks my heart I wish I could take him everywhere. I know he would love it. So unbelievably friendly and loving to everyone and every cat. I love all cats but it you want a 100% guarantee amazing cat get a Ragdoll. Truly amazing little babies.
I acquired a rag doll when neighbors moved out and left her behind. She was even spayed. Absolutely the lovey-doveyest cat I've ever had. She would sit in my shadow while I worked in the garden. Don't know if that was a compliment, that she wanted to be so near me, or an insult, that I was so wide that I cast a good shadow for sleeping in.
Our cats (ragdolls) are exactly like this and the worst part is that they start playing tag during then night when everyone is trying to sleep, but all you hear is loud horses running through the corridor. I still love them :)
These "cons" are tongue in cheek-meaning not really at all. Ragdolls are the most awesome of cats. All cats are great, but Ragdolls are in a different league. Bowie, we have Bishop. You could be twins. Big, fluffy blue mitted with the most loving demeanor, follows us from room to room, lays spread out on his back like you do and thinks he belongs on the kitchen table, too! He's a celebrity. Oftentimes folks come over to visit him and forget to say hello to us or our other cats. He loves it.
They are just the most loving cat ever. They never leave your side . They are very much like a dog, they play "fetch"even 😊 if you throw a toy they will go get it and bring it back to you. Just so loving. Playful and gorgeous 😍🥰
So true! Apart from the bit about them being cons. I adopted a moggie from the local cat rescue, Thomasina. When she was a few months old I began to suspect she was part ragdoll. A vet I took her to also suspected the same without me mentioning anything about it. The vet fell in love with her at first sight, as did I. She is the loveliest cat I’ve ever met. The thing about the doors. Pretty soon after I got her I was taking a shower. Next thing the bathroom door flings wide open and a tiny kitten strides right in like she owns the place and sits on the shower mat for the rest of the shower. She’s to be found there almost every morning since, and you can see the annoyance in her face if she manages to miss my daily shower. One weekend she completely missed both my showers, every time I went into the bathroom afterwards, she’d look at me and then look expectantly into the shower. Apparently ragdolls like the sound of running water. I discovered later she would stand on her hind legs and put her entire body weight on the door to open it, it doesn’t latch properly. Sometimes she even pushes it shut again after her. Another thing is she loves to stand on her hind legs and smooch my hand. I hold my hand above her nose and she jumps up, sometimes she grabs my hand with two paws, sometimes she just balances, and then rubs her entire face over my hand. I wondered if that was a ragdoll thing too, especially as Bowie seems to be showing similar tendencies when you do the fetch segment. I also often find her taking up the entire hallway, like in your video -probably they don’t want us to leave, and she helps me tie my laces getting ready for work in the morning. Lastly her eyes will follow me around the room. Even if she’s lying down her eyes are watching me over the top of her head to see what I’m up to. Such a joy!
If people don't want a Ragdoll cat after this video, that's good. But if people do want a Ragdoll cat after this video, that's perfect, then you're a true Ragdoll lover. Ragdoll cats follows you from room to room, so they hate closed doors. 2. Bowie is huge. And Ragdoll cats will not go aside. 3. Ragdoll cats are pretty willful. Sometimes they don't want to play, they just want a belly rub. 4. Almost too late for an appointment? And you are a Ragdoll cat owner? Well that can be a problem. -- BOWIE'S CHANNEL: ua-cam.com/users/BowieTheRagdollCat
Only con of owning a Ragdoll is that one day it will leave you. When it does, your heart will be ripped to shreds. Pammi was a gorgeous seal point rag, most gentle and sweet, and I’m not sure even after 3 years I have fully recovered! But, better to have loved and lost than never to have had this wonderful cat in our lives.
So sweet a Ragdoll kitten. Cats usually have to get used to the new environment. If so, don't pay attention to your cat. Ragdolls are generally sweet and affectionate, but keep in mind that not all Ragdolls are exactly the same.
As I read, they are highly socializing and don't care about being pat on a belly or being in your hands for too long. There are cats that can stand a human picking them for like 1 second. Then all kinds of smacking and kicking begin as a cat wants to break free. A belly rub? Forget it unless you wanna get scratched. Btw, who else doesn't have a cat and hugs a fluffy toy while watching this? =)
Pros of owning a ragdoll cat: They sit around all day but move when your not looking Cons of owning a ragdoll cat: They sit around all day but move when your not looking
Feel the doors part! When I introduced Bourbon to my others cats, naturally I had to keep them seperate when I wasn't looking + so they could chill out from time to time. It was a pretty damn balancing act in keeping both parts happy. I had to sleep in the living room because Bourbon couldn't sleep alone and my boyfriend in bed so Conan doesn't get to jealous xD
Have had my Male ragdoll over 2 yrs now and after owning a few other cats in the past I must say Ragdolls are just the BEST!!! Kids love him and he loves them back, plays hide and seek plays predator with one of my daughter but gentle with the little ones
looks just like Tolousse my old male ragdoll cat who lived 18 great years, and even acts like he did, I have another Ragdoll now, a male named Berlioz who's just a 7 month old baby, he gets into mischief but he still just has nothing but love in his heart like they all do
I have a raggie and while he’s naughty AF he’s the most lovable little things. I love how handsome Bowie is- then again raggies are just perfection. Omg GW does the same thing re: lying on his back when he wants the tummies too cute.
My Rag doll cat only likes to be held like a real baby, for some reason she doesn’t like her legs hanging. When I first got her she never wanted to be held but, I kept picking her up a lot so now she doesn’t mind as long as I cuddle her like a baby!❤️
My cat definetly can open doors. She is an adorable chubby ragdoll and belly flopas alot. Also is it common for cats liking to sid on paper and love hairties 😂😂😂
Your are absolutely right. Throughout the years I have loved all my cats as much. But what makes a Ragdoll special is that he really has a particularly sweet and funny character.
I had a friend stay at my house for about a month & live with my ragdoll. Her main issue was how needy and attention-hogging she was. She would demand to be played with several times a day, want to be petted (including belly rubs!), groomed, etc. and she'd let you know. It doesn't bother me (in fact, I prefer it), but it was hard for her to tolerate because she was used to cats only approaching for food and the occassional head-petting.
Ha ha - in other words, they are like every mongrel cat I’ve ever lived with.... Just bigger and harder to get to move due to sheer weight. Once a cat trusts you not to deliberately hurt them, it’s all over and the house is theirs. I keep warning my current crew that if they don’t let me go up and down the stairs unimpeded, they might lose their beloved servant. I’m not all that steady on my feet. Doesn’t stop them from barreling upstairs ahead of me or (if already on the stairs) looking at me like I’m being unreasonable when they are stretched out on a step and see no reason to budge.
My two late Raggie sisters(litter mates) The Torti is the naughtiest I have ever "owned". Actually sprayed (spayed too) when changes upset her.Very loving, affectionate , vocal, bossy with people.Teased her sister mercilessly, until "payback time" Both passed away at 17 & 18 yrs.Much loved,so much pleasure & love from my girls

@@BowieTheRagdollCat that they do.
While he knows 'trick' commands, I only ask him to do what will keep peace between us both. ;) He's been a pleasure to have in the house!
createinspain exactly what my husband says l! At 1st he didn’t want our Ragdoll but now I’m sure he would choose her over me. 😆
If you are late for your appointment, you have only yourself to blame. You know how Bowie is.
Of course, I have to leave on time.
Human: What are you doing? You're in the way.
Cat: Isn't it time for you to notice that I need a tummy rub?
They are so adorable though, you can't stay mad at them.
When your stuck in quarantine so your whole schedule is playing with your rag doll cat 🥺
The only con of owning a ragdoll cat: HAIR. FREAKIN' EVERYWHERE. NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY.
Add more fishoil to your furry friend's diet. And brush often. Also a humidifier will help too with hair sticking to your clothing with static I add a drop of Downey to the watef. Seems to help. Also makes the home smell wonderful.
Cat be like: I'm simply spreading the love so EEEEEVERYBODY sees/feels/recieves it...😅
LARGE and IN CHARGE. My servants CAN be a problem at times. Such ARE the trials of owning one of those humans!!😻
my ragdoll is the exact same. He's 9 months. He is already huge and he shouts at the top of his lungs when you close a door on him. He melts my heart
Just like my Joey. Joey the 30 pound velvet pawed cat. His love affection and loyalty to mama outsize his actual body size. He's THE most loving cat ever.
Whenever I get up from a seat to grab something, my Ragdoll will take my spot.
MINE TOO! I thought I was the only one who noticed
and I was in running match with the ragdoll, between putting her quite far and running to my chair to sit.
0:40 He's staring into our soul.
2:30 rub my tummy, butler.
“No privacy” - ok, my dog
“Huge” - ok, my dog again
“Wont touch grass” - ok, so its not my dog with claws phew
“Willful and sometimes want a belly rub instead of playing” - my dog again
“Have to be on time” - ok, I can’t get one
I have 2 ragdoll cats that are siblings & this is such an accurate representation. Besides the constant hairballs & lint rolling, I wouldn't change a thing:) Thanks for sharing your baby w/ us❤
The belly rubs! My friend's 2 ragdoll cats are the only cats I know who genuinely enjoy getting their belly rubbed. It is so adorable, and they are so soft.
I love Bowie and your videos! They always elevate my mood.
Bowie-"As A Netter Of Fact This is My House I'm Just allowing You To Reside In It"😂😂😂😂😂
I recently found an abandoned ragdoll cat and she’s so beautiful! I love her and all of her cons 💕☺️
You're a hero to me. I love the cons too! 🤗
How someone could abandoned them?
@@nou7813 I took her to get checked and they said she was nurtured which means it was someone’s cat. Then a neighbor said this couple moved to Florida but trapped the cat inside. :( when the landlord came he just let the cat outside but she was so skinny from starvation. After some time her fur grew full and vibrant. :)
Jackpot for you both!! You're so lucky to have one of these sweet and beautiful kitties, and for freeee! 🥰
and this is what my life is going to be like as I have a new rag doll kitten
Me too!
@@evilentity5159 how’s ur cat doing after a year? Hahah
Fidget is an adorable name
@@blondbum thank you. Like all ragdolls, she is adorable, but she doesn't understand what all the fuss is about.
April Anonymous,
You are a well trained

Kudos to your Fidget training skills ,

I love ragdolls. I have two of them and I don’t understand how did I ever live without them❤️❤️❤️
Cons? PFFFF more like goals!!!
I have had my male Ragdoll since 2003, he has been the best cat I have ever had, so gentle, loving and friendly.
my doberman and ragdoll cat cant get enough of eachother XD
Stelliferous Oofer Doberman? More like *DOPErman*
I'VE HAD THIS RD KITTY FOR A MONTH NOW...WE LOVE HER AND SHE LOVES US BACK.....
What a beautiful cuddle puff!
The only Con I see, is that he's not mine! 😄😄😄
😍😍😍😻😻😻
What a beautiful boy.. I thought ours was the only one that lies like a big huss bag with his legs apart but seems its quite common, there are no cons to a ragdoll, the most loving and loyal cat ever
He's eyes are hypnotizing. Wonderful blue face and furr. very lucky loving owners
my ragdoll Rosie follows me everywhere even the bathroom haha sometimes ill be at my computer and she will sit at my feet and look at me until i look back. She meows to let me know she wants to be cuddled and given kisses. Super sweet cat i love her
One real con: long hair leaves dingle berries when coming out of litter box
This can be remedied by giving the rear end a medium clipping about twice a year - this goes for all long hair cats.
Felix: 😂😂😂
Caz: .....and humans....
Fioneenacockeen - yes that’s another story 💩 - some humans may need to relearn their hygiene habits too! Good point though.
@@caz4962 😂
We just adopted a 1 yr old ragdoll who was so shy. She is also very petite and skinny, we’re feeding her well. We just LOVE our Missy and so does our miniature poodle.
They are the most friendly breed 💖
I have two and, although they are just like Bowie, I have never been happier. I was always a doggie person, still am at heart, but my two are like a cross between a cat and a dog! There are no cons in living with these amazing, lovely, funny, loving cats.
When I was young every time it was my bedtime my Ragdoll would come up to me and start meowing 😂 he came at the exact same time every day
The same here🤗
Everytime I get ready for work my Ragdoll will lay on my clothes and in front of doors.
They are!
Hahaha, I think it was a compliment!
Our cats (ragdolls) are exactly like this and the worst part is that they start playing tag during then night when everyone is trying to sleep, but all you hear is loud horses running through the corridor. I still love them :)
I didn’t have a choice, he just showed up to our house. Now he’s my kid
This is the perfect Cat for me. They don't go run around climbing and breaking stuff
I'm considering getting my mom a Ragdoll as a companion now that she's retired.
These most of these cons look like pros to me.
Jesse Berg ikr
These "cons" are tongue in cheek-meaning not really at all. Ragdolls are the most awesome of cats. All cats are great, but Ragdolls are in a different league. Bowie, we have Bishop. You could be twins. Big, fluffy blue mitted with the most loving demeanor, follows us from room to room, lays spread out on his back like you do and thinks he belongs on the kitchen table, too! He's a celebrity. Oftentimes folks come over to visit him and forget to say hello to us or our other cats. He loves it.
Hahaha, love it!
@@BowieTheRagdollCat it's been six months since I posted this, and I went ahead and did it. My mom and her kitten are very happy together.
That's good to hear! 😊
Such a joy!
These are indeed similarities with a Ragdoll. Ragdolls are not happy alone.
Aw, so sweet. I lost my Ragdoll Ellie yesterday, and she was just the sweetest thing ever. She made it to 17 years old.
I am sorry about the loss of your beloved Ragdoll Ellie. Bowie and I sending you love.
@@BowieTheRagdollCat Thank you, your video made me smile. Ellie did all that, I'm glad we had so many years together.
If people don't want a Ragdoll cat after this video, that's good. But if people do want a Ragdoll cat after this video, that's perfect, then you're a true Ragdoll lover.
(Ragdolls, like all cats, are individuals with their own personalities and their own quirks. More info on Floppycats: www.floppycats.com/ragdoll-cat-stereotypes.html )
Funny video about "CONS" of owning a Ragdoll Cat.
1. There is no privacy for Ragdoll owners.
Well that can be a problem.

solution, use multiple doors.
Whose appointment? Not his? Then why are we talking about this?
Mine learned how to open the door nob... it’s not a nob, shaped like the one on here... I’ve seen her reach up and open it. Urg.
Smart Ragdoll cat! 😄
Bowie The Ragdoll Cat Yep. We’re so lucky to be their slaves. 😺
I never close doors anymore 😂
I just got a rag doll kitten and I hope he’s as sweet as yours!
So sweet a Ragdoll kitten. Cats usually have to get used to the new environment. If so, don't pay attention to your cat.
Ragdolls are generally sweet and affectionate, but keep in mind that not all Ragdolls are exactly the same.
Bowie The Ragdoll Cat Thank you!
Beautiful cat. My cat, not a ragdoll, would never let my touch his belly. Never ever.
Mine too
Mine is a grey ragdoll who has a white very fluffy tummy, who I haven't seen in 2 days, 3 today 😦😦😢 love him SO MUCH!!!
I suppose you have to have a need, but I see all of these as benefits 😀 love my ragdolls!
You're right, we have also a video about benefits and that's almost the same. 😄
Death Stare .. "Human I Demand Attention NOW"😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Pros of owning a ragdoll cat: They sit around all day but move when your not looking
Cons of owning a ragdoll cat: They sit around all day but move when your not looking
Hahaha, that's exactly what I mean!
I love how dramatic they make walking the stairs look, all they needed was a switch in the music.
I want to get a ragdoll so this is really helpful
Feel the doors part! When I introduced Bourbon to my others cats, naturally I had to keep them seperate when I wasn't looking + so they could chill out from time to time. It was a pretty damn balancing act in keeping both parts happy. I had to sleep in the living room because Bourbon couldn't sleep alone and my boyfriend in bed so Conan doesn't get to jealous xD
My rag doll will meow until I sit up and then put one of each paw on one on each shoulder then he tucks himself to me and hold on tightly
So sweet!
Have had my Male ragdoll over 2 yrs now and after owning a few other cats in the past I must say Ragdolls are just the BEST!!! Kids love him and he loves them back, plays hide and seek plays predator with one of my daughter but gentle with the little ones
Raggies forever!
There's no cons of having a ragdoll cat, beside the amount of fur he leaves all over the place.
looks just like Tolousse my old male ragdoll cat who lived 18 great years, and even acts like he did, I have another Ragdoll now, a male named Berlioz who's just a 7 month old baby, he gets into mischief but he still just has nothing but love in his heart like they all do
Yep that’s it when I’m gonna live alone instead of having a van cat (which is already so cute) I’ll have a ragdoll cat
I have a raggie and while he’s naughty AF he’s the most lovable little things. I love how handsome Bowie is- then again raggies are just perfection. Omg GW does the same thing re: lying on his back when he wants the tummies too cute.
My cat lays in the sink when I use the toliet lol
Hahaha, A nice and comfortable place to wait.
Maybe I should also teach Bowie to open doors 🤔
So this is gonna be my first apartment companion
Sassy cats! That's Ragdolls for ya 😺
this is so true. my ragdoll even went as far as learning how to open doors.
one more con though is that they shed so much fur.
Yep I want one to much cuteness.
I’m sorry I’m I the only one who loves It when their cat follows them around , I feel like I’m never lonely. !
Lots of regular american shorthair and longhair cats are very loving, they don't need to be some breed.
OMG this is too cute!!
I'm the same way...every time I feel like exercising, I take a nap until the feeling goes away...
Hahaha, saving energy!
I read the title and I was like “shortest video - there are NO conssss” this video is delightful 💚💚💚💕💕
Thank you!
4:20 in length, I think this person's cat wants some catnip
My two late Raggie sisters(litter mates) The Torti is the naughtiest I have ever "owned". Actually sprayed (spayed too) when changes upset her.Very loving, affectionate , vocal, bossy
