Thailand treated Laos like a second class peoole after they took most of lao skilled artisans labor folks to build Thailand. Barry G Your question was a very good one. From my experience of South East Asia, I would have to say the Myanmar was probably my least favourite, there’s something about the place that makes me uneasy.
In Laos most all Falangs (white foreigners, from the word France) are held in very high esteem. It comes from the Lao history. While Lao people were vassals to the Thai Siam (starting from the 18-th century) a Lao king of the Vientiane Kingdom made an uprising but he failed which led to the annihilation of his kingdom. The town destroyed to the roots, the inhabitants taken away to the right side of the river (Isan today). The French when they proclaimed the Protectorate of Indochina in the last years of the 19-th century they took away from Thai Siam half of the Lao lands. From the half of that lands emerged the present day's Laos (after the WWII). Thankfully to this act of "colonialism" Laotians in the left side of the river didn't share the fate of the people in Isan and in Lan Na. It's understandable that the intermarriage between French and Lao has been always natural and has nothing to matter. Five of my good friends married French women. P.S.: in the contrary to Thailand, Lao women have no trend to marry Falangs. You don't see them in places where the tourists gather.
‘Beautiful’ cloudy day. Guess it should be the rainy season now. Great video as always bro. Lao people are more laid back - Sabai Sabai. They are very friendly. Even when I was working there, they were offering me for ‘Long hair dictionary’ to help me out. Generally they are more receptive of foreigners. Some of the fruits and food(meat and seafood) supplies come from Vietnam, Thai or China. The Banh Minh (sandwich) is delicious and I sure miss them. I miss the Laap, pho, Lao Beer and Lao Lao too.😉
Hey Luke.. thanks. Yes mate it is, it's raining now. I enjoy the rainy season. Very laid back, chill and curious about why you're there. Hmmm don't think I'd miss the Lao Lao 😝

Thanks, I really enjoyed your videos, I watch your videos when I feel homesick.
Vietnamese food has a few influences including Vietnamese, Chinese, French, and American. Many people in the USA eat at a place with the word "Pho" in the name and the customers still think it is a Chinese restaurant. Medicare provides medical care for people in the USA that are 66 years old and older. For a healthy person in their late 60s it cost about $500 per month. And costs increase as a person gets older. Plus there are additional costs for people that have a big drug bill. Some people can not afford to buy their prescription drugs. A person can drop out of Medicare and get Medicare Advantage but they still have to pay Medicare about $200 per month. And with Medicare Advantage they may die due to lack of proper medical care. And they may suffer due to lack of proper medical care. Medicare for Medicare recipients.

how is the pineapple in laos, sweet or tart? do you see colder weather fruits, e.g. apples? delicious looking banh mi. why does the vendor have cans of condensed milk at her stall, to sweeten coffee or put in a sandwich?
Very nice pineapple mate, sweet and juicy! Have seen a few different types of apples and also had some of the sweetest mandarins i have ever tasted from up in the Bokeo province. Northern Laos, does get a lot cooler in the winter months than down around Vientiane and further south

Hey Todd. A bahn mi combo goes for $5 (US) for a 6 inch sub here in Massachusetts. As far as the vendor goes, it is what it is. If you are not happy with the way the food is handled and prepared walk away. I saw flies landing on the baguettes. Are there health codes for restaurants and food vendors? Do they need a license to sell food at the market? I do not think there is any government control over this. Have a good one and thanks for an interesting video. Peace ☮️

Thanks for the videos. I'm a 38 year odl Canadian myself, and lived in NE Thailand (Khon Kaen) for 8 years before. Been back in Canada for a couple years, and planning to move back to Vientaine asap. Just curious, any news about the borders over there? So far looks like VISAs are still suspended indefinitely until further notice. You hearing anything on the ground as to when they may reopen the borders? Thanks!
French bread sandwiches. A hangover from colonial days, who ever said that nothing good came from colonization? The architecture far nicer than Thai also.Thailand should really have been colonized too, but the British and the French couldn't decide who would take it, so in the end they just left it as a buffer-zone between British Burma, and French Indochina. It's ironic that the Thais are so 'proud' of never having been colonized, but what it came down to was just a small matter of convenience among the two major empire builders in the region.
the heck, where you buying those sandwiches for 15 bucks? you're going to the wrong places if so! those sandwiches should be costing you 3-6 bucks here in the states

Hello, I heard that in order for a Laos young unmarried woman to travel to Canada or U.S, she has to put a deposit with the Laos government in order to guarantee her return and she gets the deposit back. Is this true and if so how much is it?
Next time I would like to see them wear gloves when working with foods. Because you don’t know what they been touching before serving you foods, as specially the vendors.;(
Lol. The world doesn't have USA standards. Medicare provides medical care for people in the USA that are 66 years old and older. For a healthy person in their late 60s it cost about $500 per month. Here's a bit of interesting information for ya Allan.. anything from the river they don't call "seafood" in Lao. Even the fish from the river...nope, not seafood lol Seafood to the Lao people comes from the sea, not river. So all the seafood is imported from Thailand or Vietnam....and yes, we do buy local fish and things from the river also.
Actually legally u can not live with lao woman if u not married I know many falang got fine cuz of that So get married But it take time and many paper to full And a lot money to give Just to say Keep on good video We love u
When I was in Laos I was told by the American managing our accomodation that sleeping with a Laotian woman as an unmarried couple is against the law in Laos. I see that as a socialist country opposing sex tourism and sexual exploitation, not racism. I have been with my Thai partner for 7 years. We wondered if the law extended to Thais with foreign men. We had no problems at all with Laotian people or authorities. If it is true it may be important for men considering finding a Laotian wife.
Hi Bob.. No, i don't think it extends to anyone else, only Lao citizens. I think it's a great law and custom for that exact reason you mentioned. Also, i think you will find that even most of the sex workers in Laos are not Lao, but Vietnamese and Chinese, so the law does not apply to them. Yes, i have addressed it in older videos, but will be addressing it again soon as i met a couple just recently who had been caught...
todd, real quick and dirty... when it comes to photos/videos anywhere in lao base on your time in lao. throughout your time traveling, is there still certain parts of the country that are off-limit (saisomboun, may be) when it comes to taking photos/videos (drone/gopro)? have you ever encounter situations with lao police/official?
The only risk in Lao women marrying a farang or guava is that they(Farangs) are very fond of divorce. Getting divorced is a trendy fashion in the West. But in Lao it is a stigma. Even if I go for second marriage, I'll go for a virgin.
sir you r a one of native english speaker from western ..so you need to be thought your Mrs a more correct english so tht she may speak english with more fluently & accuratwly & appropriate manner..nver mind...love from india..
Those sandwiches are ban mi sandwiches, originally a Vietnamese sandwich, that’s been adopted and is all over the world now. There’s shops here in America that’s just a ban mi shop, like 15-20 different types of those sandwiches are on the menu and that’s all they sell, that’s how popular they are here.
Recently Americans were protesting in the streets and shouting it is better to let huge numbers of Americans die than be forced to live on an income of 1,000/week plus savings, ... .
The government's stand point, it's illegal for a foreigner to have a relationship with a Lao. Todd would probably attest , it's a long process for a foreigner to marry a Lao, and costly.
You left out a key word there Jurgen..... 'Illegal to have an "unmarried" relationship with a Lao', and yes, there are a lot of hoops to jump through. I had never heard of an "Engagement Certificate" before lol
@tyjghjghhh I have always thought this was one of the smartest laws a 3rd world country could have in place for the exact reasons you have pointed out. I'm a huge fan of this law. The law does not prevent anybody from coming here and genuinely getting to know people or striking up a relationship, but it does prevent the country from becoming a sex tourist destination flooded with whore mongers and sleazy expats. Please hit me up on my Now in Lao FB page (link in the description above), i am very interested in keeping in touch and knowing where your travels lead you and where you finally do decide to retire. Take care

Hi... there are links in the description of my bideos to the restaurants FB page and directions to get here 🙏
Hello Todd, I pay $7 for a tray of 30 oversize eggs direct from the chook farm
In Aus? That sounds alright....if ya like eggs 😝
Eggs are $7.40 for a box of 60 eggs at Walmart in the U.S.A.
I had, once, street food poisoning in Myanmar., since I am afraid to eat at street food stalls in Asia. but having that sort of experience is something as a normal part of traveling.
Yes, I think we've all been there. I truly believe the more you visit countries like this the more your body and immune system adjusts. 👌 Thanks for commenting 🙏
Agree fully u gain a tolerence to things the more u try
Just don't eat meat or eggs. 28 years of Asian street food eating, not once did I get food poisoning since I stopped eating meat or eggs from street vendors.
Hey Todd yet another great video I so enjoy seeing Vientiane loved when I was there and brings back great memories hopefully back there once the silly virus is over with hopefully your in Lao catch up. I've never had a bad experience with any Lao people always so kind and helpful and smiling all the time keep up the good work mate
Hey Lee...Thanks mate. Yeah, i cant recall anybody visiting Lao and not having a great time here, and you'll find, like yourself, most want to return. Yeah sure mate, would be great to catch up and have a chat 😋👍
Did you just buy "Birthday Bread"? I'm sure it's actually banh mi but I've only heard it called birthday bread.
Nice to hear another aussie voice..
Where you at Gregory?
@@NowinLao I am stuck in Sydney at the moment. My wife lives in Chiang Rai province...I cant wait to get back there! Stay in touch! Cheers..Greg
Chiang Rai... nice! I bet you can't wait. Little bit warmer than where you're at right now.
Sure will mate 👌
Thanks for the videos. I'm a 38 year odl Canadian myself, and lived in NE Thailand (Khon Kaen) for 8 years before. Been back in Canada for a couple years, and planning to move back to Vientaine asap.
Just curious, any news about the borders over there? So far looks like VISAs are still suspended indefinitely until further notice. You hearing anything on the ground as to when they may reopen the borders?
Thanks!
Hi Matt.. no word as yet, I think theyre still waiting to see how June turns out. Might discuss this in more depth later in the week. 👌
Yeah do do eggs much, rarely I feel like scrabbled egg but not into egg
French bread sandwiches. A hangover from colonial days, who ever said that nothing good came from colonization?
The architecture far nicer than Thai also.Thailand should really have been colonized too, but the British and the French couldn't decide who would take it, so in the end they just left it as a buffer-zone between British Burma, and French Indochina. It's ironic that the Thais are so 'proud' of never having been colonized, but what it came down to was just a small matter of convenience among the two major empire builders in the region.
I am new on your channel. How did you and your wife met? And how long have you two been married??
Bro those sandwiches are like $15 a piece in Las Vegas smfh I’m so jealous
I know bro, I know. They're about the same in Aus.. and taste much better 👌😁
the heck, where you buying those sandwiches for 15 bucks? you're going to the wrong places if so! those sandwiches should be costing you 3-6 bucks here in the states
Laos is a very poor country that’s why. They only recently opened for tourism
Nothing wrong your wife is lovely and beautiful I was born half French because my mother got French husband and I am married to English man xx
eggs, in Europe 0.11 till 0.45 € for 1 egg. thats 3.5€ for 30 factory eggs till 13.5€ for bio eggs.
Haaaa loved that sheilla at the beginning, imagine her driving down Parramatta Rd in the morning , eggs $ 3. 50 a dozon up to $ 7 for the cage free.
Gordo...are you down the pub already? That was an old man 😐

Thoughts of Marriage in Laos Jealous AF. Hahahahaha good one mate! 🙏🌏 its more about survival. Love the intro with the happy Grandfather on the bike hahahah
Yeah I often see him getting around play his cool tunes 🤙
@@NowinLao love when the elders are happy.. 🙏🙏
By the way Todd, Can you show me your fish pond next video
I showed it in the video before this one. 👍
Hello, I heard that in order for a Laos young unmarried woman to travel to Canada or U.S, she has to put a deposit with the Laos government in order to guarantee her return and she gets the deposit back. Is this true and if so how much is it?
Did you give a dory and what the is consisted of ?
Next time I would like to see them wear gloves when working with foods. Because you don’t know what they been touching before serving you foods, as specially the vendors.;(
You don't know what they've been touching after they put the gloves on..🙄
Lol.
The world doesn't have USA standards.
Medicare provides medical care for people in the USA that are 66 years old and older. For a healthy person in their late 60s it cost about $500 per month.
Medicare for Medicare recipients.
is the "seafood" all from the river? if not, do you know where it travels from?
Gee, are you dumb or wot, it's as plain as the scales on your back. They walk. Gee, some people.
They use their fish fingers to hitch hike
Here's a bit of interesting information for ya Allan.. anything from the river they don't call "seafood" in Lao. Even the fish from the river...nope, not seafood lol Seafood to the Lao people comes from the sea, not river.
So all the seafood is imported from Thailand or Vietnam....and yes, we do buy local fish and things from the river also.
Hahaha
I think that was a Rambutan (Fruit) that you stepped on 555
Cheap feed yes ,Neene in the fashion stakes again lol
It makes it easier to find her in a crowd 😉
I bet adding crispy pork to your sandwich would be delicious!
Actually legally u can not live with lao woman if u not married
I know many falang got fine cuz of that
So get married
But it take time and many paper to full
And a lot money to give
Just to say
Keep on good video
We love u
Florida 18 pack large eggs about $2.99
Do you guys make a good living from her restaurant?
I bit into a tart in Phuket one time. Wheeew.
Hahaha I bet ya did mate... 😝
How did she taste? A bit fishy?lmao
Where is this market?
todd, real quick and dirty... when it comes to photos/videos anywhere in lao base on your time in lao.
throughout your time traveling, is there still certain parts of the country that are off-limit (saisomboun, may be) when it comes to taking photos/videos (drone/gopro)? have you ever encounter situations with lao police/official?
The only risk in Lao women marrying a farang or guava is that they(Farangs) are very fond of divorce. Getting divorced is a trendy fashion in the West. But in Lao it is a stigma. Even if I go for second marriage, I'll go for a virgin.
So you shopping for Restaurants Todd
Just for our own Mikey. Its how we start each day..👍
Awesome a lot of food
Three things the Lao are very good at making,, bread, coffee and beer. That's three food groups covered.
Breakfast lunch and dinner 👌
I'm doing the same thing. I find it funny how I can talk for twenty minutes about nothing! lol
Hahaha i know! Where does the time go... Doesn't take long to fill up one vid... with nothin lol😝
When can we expect the next one mate?
@@NowinLao tomorrow morning
It's all good mate, keep em coming.

sir you r a one of native english speaker from western ..so you need to be thought your Mrs a more correct english so tht she may speak english with more fluently & accuratwly & appropriate manner..nver mind...love from india..
Those sandwiches are ban mi sandwiches, originally a Vietnamese sandwich, that’s been adopted and is all over the world now. There’s shops here in America that’s just a ban mi shop, like 15-20 different types of those sandwiches are on the menu and that’s all they sell, that’s how popular they are here.
never been there. maybe after pandemic.
Recently Americans were protesting in the streets and shouting it is better to let huge numbers of Americans die than be forced to live on an income of 1,000/week plus savings, ... .
Yeup...🙄
Take care
I was born there and they class me as farlang.
With a name like that i don't know why... 🤔🙄

How would wearing gloves make a difference it she did the same thing
Thomas Schumacher
It will make a difference. Those people ha e to learn to practice proper hygiene
You get a lot of looks because they love your white color and laos guys definitely jealous of farang marryning lao women
Watching those flies walk around on your bread isn't too appetizing mate
Was that a Bahn Mi sandwich?
Ban Longroll 😝👍
How do the Lao people feel about the Vietnam - USA war, that occurred decades ago?
I can't speak for all but from what i have experienced with them, it is all in the past. No animosity towards foreigners. They have gone on with their lives. Lao has a very young demographic and most Lao people weren't born when the war happened.
@@NowinLao Thanks for your reply. Best of luck with your UA-cam channel.
@@NowinLao Lucky you didn't marry a half Lao woman that was also half Filipina. In the Philippines they eat balut. Balut has an embryo inside the egg even some Filipinas won't eat the head inside the egg.
They eat that here also. I'm pretty sure you eat somethings that others would find strange also. Each to their own.
10:50 What a pretty lady. 👍
Dam, that lady making the sandwich looks mean. Or am I just tripping
Lol.. yeah she never looks happy 😏
