One of my favorite songs (version) of my 77 years, 65 of them as a saxophone player. This tune has everything: Tempo changes,
monster scat solo, amazing harmonies, and, after the scat solo heading for the second ending, when the tempo goes to a straight 4,
the top voice sounds beyond human. What a group!
Just awesome. The sort of stuff that will sweep you off your feet. Transcendental meditation with a difference.
GOD BLESS You, New York Voices.
Stay HEALTHY and Stay TOGETHER
It's 2021 March 3....Just heard this for the first time. One word........SICK!!!! And that's fantastic BTW. This is probably the best vocal arrangement I've heard on this classic song! First, the arrangement is spot on perfect, flawlessly from from 3/4 to 4/4 time. Hats off to the arranger. Second, the lead vocalist scathing is sooooooooo good. He's simulating the trumpet when he soloing, like Jon Hendricks use to do with the saxophone. Third, but not at all in the least, the rest of the other vocalist nailed all the harmonies and phrasing. All around ten stars out of ten for this arrangement!!!
Ron King Big Band solid as ever and giving the NYV a top shelf back-up. Yes!
Beautiful arrangement with the energy and precision that NYV are known for!
I just had my sox blessed off while watching this! WOW! One of my favorite tunes sung by one of my favorite vocal groups. This arrangement kicks arse! Thanks for posting this!
