As a drummer for 20 years, "II" is my personal favorite drummer. I had been looking for someone unique and inspiring since The Rev passed away. It's not all about speed and breakdowns, it's about groove, feel, and flavor. A master at his craft. Worship.

@@LWD83absolutely! I was a late comer to Tool but got to see them last fall. He's fantastic and honestly probably the GOAT. I'm not trying to diminish his talent at all. II is just my favorite drummer at the moment. All personal preference. Danny is in my top 5 though no doubt. Mad respect for him.

you basically got the god part correct, only it would be godess. the band is called sleep token because the band is based around a story of a goddess named Sleep, and the songs are tokens to her. the lead singer is named Vessel as he is meant to be the vessel she operates through. at least that's the tldr of the lore behind the band
Vessel refers to Sleep as 'Him'. Interview in Metal Hammer from 2017. 😊
Yeah sleep is never referred to as a goddess. Always a him in anything Vessel has ever said. But the Beloved that drove Vessel to Sleep in the first place is obviously female.
My idea is that Sleep IS Vessel, or is rather Vessel as he could be. He is worshiping the idea of a version of himself that is beyond himself, beyond the pain he's been through. He's offering the trauma of his past to a version of himself that no longer has to feel it, he's offering memories of his past to a version of himself that no longer has to remember it. Which, really, is what we do when we've been hurt. We all become vessels for pain and grief and sadness until we reach the point where we are so full of those things that there's nothing left to do but pour it all out and slowly heal.

I’m 55. The pinnacle groups that have defined my taste in music over the years (chronologically): Zepplin, Rush, Metallica, Jane’s Addiction, Deftones, Tool. I thought I wouldn’t see another group crack that level for me. But Sleep Token has. Basically carved out a whole new landscape for me.

Hot take!!! Vessel is not just the singer. He plays the piano, bass and guitars, everything but the drumms. He is really a musical prodigy.
"II" the drummer is very creative and Unique. He mixes drumms with percussion and has jazz and R&B influences.

I'm so glad you found sleep token! Most of their songs are indeed about a toxic relationship but the lore is wrapped around a diety called sleep. I think vessel keeps his lyrics vague so we can relate to them better and insert our own experiences into the music. I would LOVE to see more ST here!
I just introduced them to a family of my friends and they say “it sounds like worship…it’s the kind of music I need to listen to in concert”

YAYYYYYYYY!!! Finally :). I’ve been obsessed with them since December haha. Their sound is amazing and their drummer is a genius❤❤❤can’t wait for you to react to more! The visuals are all sick, and the lyrics follow a story based on a dream the lead singer had :).

As a musician, I am amazed that Vessel does every instrument on this album, except the drums and percussion. He is blessed, obviously. And they do this live, like it sounds perfect.

The whole Take Me Back To Eden album is good. Just keep going from there because Chokehold is the first song on the album. The entire album is phenomenal.

They have a lot of great songs, but Chokehold is probably my all time favorite. Its probably the nost powerful song ive ever heard. All fhe textural details of the music and the texture of his voice, the lyrics and delivery, the banging guitars, drum accents and fills, every layer is just magical.

I always related their songs to God too. good to hear I'm not the only one who got that feeling from their songs. It ties into the album name as well so its hard for me not to see it that way..
I mentioned this in your live, but in case you missed it; I highly suggest giving Stephen Wilson Jr. a listen, he opened for Hardy for the first half of his tour, and he’s a badass artist/songwriter. I’d suggest Mighty Beast if you’re looking for something more “rock”. He’s going to be big-time.
The last song on the album before this, This Place Will become Your Tomb, is Missing Limbs and the ending of that song is the beginning of this song but reversed I believe
