  • Step back in time with our full coverage of the 1983 Grand National, aired originally by the BBC. This iconic race at Aintree is remembered for its thrilling finish and a groundbreaking achievement in horse racing history.
    🏆 Key Highlights:
    Winner: Corbiere (7/1)
    Jockey: Ben de Haan
    Trainer: Jenny Pitman
Corbiere's victory marked a monumental moment as he became the first Grand National winner trained by a female, Jenny Pitman, breaking new ground in a traditionally male-dominated sport. His skilled jockey, Ben de Haan, expertly guided him through the challenging Aintree course.
    🐎 Race Details:
The race was intensely competitive, with 41 horses starting but few finishing. The favourite, last year's winner Grittar, shared the same odds as Corbiere at 7/1 but it was Corbiere who stole the show. Overcoming the challenging course, he maintained a solid lead over the tough competition, particularly over the critical Valentine's fence, the 23rd in the lineup.
In a nail-biting finish, Corbiere managed to hold off Greasepaint, securing victory by a narrow three-quarters-of-a-length margin, with Yer Man finishing in third place. His remarkable performance didn't stop there; Corbiere showed his enduring class by placing third in the subsequent two Grand Nationals.
    🎥 Relive the Magic:
This broadcast not only captures the excitement of the race but also provides in-depth commentary and analysis, offering viewers a comprehensive look at one of the most memorable editions of the Grand National.

Different era. Straight questions, knowledgeable answers. No fluff. Old fashioned horses visible in proper GN trials, stiff drop fences, good camera work. Full distance. Proper race. Today, Grand National in name only.. A time when winning trhe Wlesh National, Eider, Happy New Year and Brooke Bond Oxo National really meant a GN target. Without these compass fundamentals you need to question whats NH all about

They freely talk about the severity of the fences and if certain horses will be able to cope and get round. Not any more!

The current demise of the GN, Cheltenham and over NH in the UK is surely no coincidence - stemming from a lack of leadership and direction

@teenoso...Apart from Cheltenham I barely watch the jumps any more. I'll watch the national if I have a bet...but that's the only reason.

@teenoso Used to be 5/1 against your horse getting round...now it's money back if your horse falls.
