I read that this song was about a woman Kurt both despised and desired. I love that he can be so convincing with the screeching parts as well as with the tender bits. Kurt's voice is magnificent.

hairspray queen is one of those songs where Kurt could really be himself....he was an odd fellow...cool as shit....but out of the ordinary....this song best represents his personality.

i don't give a fuck what you think, appetite for destruction is an amazing album! you can hate axl or not, but this album is just great...fuck all this "guns n roses vs. nirvana" bullshit. i also like guns n roses. and i say that as a huge nirvana and especially kurt cobain fan. he is one of my biggest heroes, RIP
why is everyone saying oh this was the best album by nirvana or that one was, they are all equally as good!! each album represented a phase in the band of nirvana as it progressed through time, we might like the style of songs on one album better then the other but they are all equal so if you read this pass the message on to anyone saying one album is the best
@randomcrap72 no this is not a "b-sides" album. this is an album that set out to defy all the radio friendly attention they had gained from the previous album. they sound like b-sides to you because they are NOT radio friendly, they are more intellectual, more experimental, more raw
The vocals in this song (Purposely shitty.) aren't my favorite part about it, but it makes it different than alot of music, and it has the Kurt Cobain "Screech", but this song is best known for it's bassline.
@mike they were written in 88 to 90 this album did come after bleach and nevermind but they were written in those years their are plenty of groups that songs dont get put into albums much later.
@XxxSteeltitanxxX 80% of the songs off of Incesticide, including this one were written in 88 and 89, before Bleach. They played Aero Zepplin, Big Long Now, and Hairspray Queen their first show.
@mikeisocoo You're right! that was their first concert. And it all fucked up, cause krist was really drunk so he enden up jumping almost naked out of the window and then pee'ed on all the guests cars.
They should have made more songs like this. He only left us with Hairspray Queen and Mexican Seafood :(
I love the bass
There are more to just songs sounding good, you have to comprehend the lyrics (unless it is like Freestyle Chinese Rap)
