I still think that this mod looks visually striking and very Not Doom-Like, which works in its favor. The shading and colors give it a very comic book feel while maintaining the overall dark atmosphere of its predecessor.

Thankyou I would have gone on a rant about the Paradiso from the Divine Comedy (btw that's where all the angel imagery comes from Bayonetta too). The Divine Comedy is one of my favorite books for reasons unknown to even myself, I just have this attraction to a hell, purgatory, and heaven that combine Greek mythology and other mythologies into it. It's such a cool blend

So essentially blame the fact that the Bible is a text that has been hand copied thousands of times, translated into every language, and been rewritten a bunch. Things get lost, and misconceptions form.

There's a good reason that angels tend to introduce themselves with 'be not afraid'. They were supposed to be terrifying, mind-bending creatures that are difficult to visually understand. In that sense, they really have more in common with creatures of the Cthulhu mythos than with the modern conception of them.
Pro tip: There's more than one spawn for the Bone Mortar! There's a soul secret containing it in the first level. Good luck using it for a long while though.
Shrine II is for sure a shoe-in for the 2020 Cacowards. This has been a great year for Doom, what with the Console Doom patches and remaster of Doom 64, the release of Doom Eternal and all these phenomenal Doom mods like Jazz Jackrabbit II and Shrine.
Love that one of the enemies is actually just a meaty Pac-Man, dying animation and everything. The enemies in general are great - everything from references over horrifying hanged men balloons, all very "Biblically Accurate Angel"-esque, with one straight up being one. And killing the organ by destroying its main organ is a pretty fun pun!
The buglike weapon in this mod makes me think of a similar weapon in Half-Life, you get it from alien grunts and it fires homing alien bees Infact i think that might be where this mod got the idea for that weapon

I've played this game for over 90 hours & from what I've come across is this. You actually can unlock Secret Mode where you can use Shrine 1 weapons which is fun, but even harder than previous difficulty why? I think you either have to beat this game on Nightmare Mode or Tusk Will Die Mode I really can't tell. I'm surprised so far no one has ever notice that Secret mode yet and post it here on UA-cam. It's to bad because I can't do video gameplay to show it off because I have no knowledge of how to do all this UA-cam stuff properly. Still, I hope you all had a great time playing this game & actually beat this in Hardest Difficulty of them all. :)

I had no idea there was a sequel. The crucifix and angels seem like an odd theme here because this game feels way more cosmic/inter dimensional rather than heaven VS Hell.
The Goreblaster is EASILY my favorite weapon in Shrine 2. All the other weapons are nice too, but the Goreblaster has that sheer, raw power that feels so good to fire.
There are actually two secrets that you can get the mortar in before the Gates of Seraphim chapter. Actually, there are ways to obtain pretty much every weapon several levels early if you look around.
I haven't been creeped out or scared by a video game for 20+ years, when I was 11 playing AVP2. But this mod and the first one genuinely creep me out, probably even more than Scorn; something about the ambience and low-fi look must contribute to that
Uh, Project Warlock! That's what this mod reminds me of, visually. It's those sprites that stand out against the 3D environments. Black outlines and such. Like they were never meant to be in a 3D space. It's a cool look, by the way

The gladiator arena goes by a LOT easier if you have the mortar and you use one of the damage multiplier powerups. You can flatten the big guys in just a few seconds each.

This really showcases some serious talent. I just started playing through it. It's amazing the amount of incredible mods are out there... makes buying a new video game seem like a waste of money. (...although I would buy a Scumhead game, pay back for such an amazing mod.)
I enjoyed Shrine 2, but I have to say that I wasn't fond of the levels from chapter 3 to the end. It's not that they are bad, but they are too short. They go like "kill ten enemies, get key, exit". Overall it was a fun mod.
Wasnt in the original Shrine that Icarus just ignored the whole "You need to start without weapons, every level starts with a weapon drop..." the reason to why he thought it was so short and easy.... That's really half-assed imo
Looks great. I enjoyed the first one for free on Steam, although it was a bit linear and the secrets were easy to find and not nearly enough of them. Recent Doom conversions have been great! Including Blade of Agony. Takes us old schoolers back!
I find the text font in game a bit irritating but enjoying it so far. Love the pod bombs, but then any weapon I can bounce around a corner gets a plus from me.
@@ghoulbuster1 lol yeah that might be a good idea, there's always that bit in FPS I don't like where you're pinned down with 13 HP desparately scrounging for health. It would need to be balanced though, a lot of bugs for a small amount of HP. And a potential problem might be people not using the bughand as a weapon, instead using it as a health reservoir. I like how in Death Fortold (a Doom 4 in Doom 2 mod) you can glory kill / siphon grenade enemies for a bit of HP back. I haven't played Shrine 2 yet so I don't know what the balance is like. The first one like Icarus said, was a bit too generous with its lines of health armour and ammo.
@@mengo329 Hivehand was the MVP of Half Life tho, it's the only safe way of killing hgrunts on hard difficulty, and the regen meant that running out of ammo just slowed the fire rate.

I find the text font in game a bit irritating but enjoying it so far. Love the pod bombs, but then any weapon I can bounce around a corner gets a plus from me.
We added a patch that gives the game a more regular font

@@ghoulbuster1 lol yeah that might be a good idea, there's always that bit in FPS I don't like where you're pinned down with 13 HP desparately scrounging for health. It would need to be balanced though, a lot of bugs for a small amount of HP. And a potential problem might be people not using the bughand as a weapon, instead using it as a health reservoir.
I like how in Death Fortold (a Doom 4 in Doom 2 mod) you can glory kill / siphon grenade enemies for a bit of HP back. I haven't played Shrine 2 yet so I don't know what the balance is like. The first one like Icarus said, was a bit too generous with its lines of health armour and ammo.
@@mengo329 Hivehand was the MVP of Half Life tho, it's the only safe way of killing hgrunts on hard difficulty, and the regen meant that running out of ammo just slowed the fire rate.
