Thank you Akshit for making this video. I followed the exact steps mentioned in the video, documents required and the letter format. I came to India after getting my Canadian Passport and Indian Evisa for holiday. I went to the exact same office mentioned in video, Bhikaji Cama Place, Rama Krishna Puram, New Delhi, Delhi 110066, India. I reached at 9 am, they asked me to wait till 10:15 am, when the officer actually starts taking application. Then they asked me to go to 1st floor, where they asked me to write a application on plain paper, as mentioned in the video. After writing the letter they asked me to go to 2nd floor. On 2nd floor, they took my application, verified it and told me that the Surrender certificate can be picked the next day. Very efficient and fast process. Took 2.5 hours (9am - 11:20 pm) 1st day, and just 5 mins to pick up the surrender certificate next day. In INR 500, this is the level of service in India. BLS Canada is a scam.
hey bro I heard one needs surrender certificate to apply for evisa? can you explain how it worked for you? and also How long does evisa application takes to process?
Akshit's video was very helpful. I was able to do the surrender at Ghaziabad RPO. The process was smooth and I got my surrender certificate in 2 hours. As Akshit mentioned the fee is just Rs. 500! Kudos to the people working in the passport office. BLS is really a scam for processing passport related applications. BLS is causing a lot of inconvenience/hassle to Indians in Canada. I hope it's noticed by MEA and Indians in Canada get good service like in India.
Thnx for your video.. I have a question, On renunciation certificate form column no.7 about children, what should fill out on that column ? That column says ( Names and full particulars of my minor children, if any, who are / were Citizens of India). And my children’s r still in India. So should I mention (NO) in this column?
I just came back from the BLS office in Toronto. They gave me a hard time and like always were trying to pinch me for extra money. Premium service + purolator and all that stuff. If that was not enough, the staff is extremely rude and misbehaves because they know people need the services I think I'l just do my surrender in India too. Thanks for sharing this informative video Were you able to apply for OCI in India by any chance?
Yes, I experienced the same while I applied for OCI in Canada. Applying for OCI is possible in India but you have to stay for a minimum of 6 months and get your e-visa converted to entry visa by visiting FRRO. It is a long complicated process. Its advisable to come back to Canada and apply for OCI if you are not planning to stay in India for a long time.
Thanks for the detailed explanation! Did you fill in the Indian passport details while filling the evisa form? The application form asks if one holds a second passport other than the Canadian one.
Hi Did they ask at the Delhi airport why you didn’t surrender the passport yet? Also, there is a column while filling the visa form asking if we have another nationality or hold another passport , did you choose no?
Hi, no the immigration officers did not ask anything about Indian pp. If they do ask, you can let them know that officially you have 3 years to Surrender Indian pp if not used for traveling and 90 days to surrender if used after attaining foreign citizenship. For e-visa I said no to that question and did not face problems.
Hi sir i also want renounciation certificate from india.. Will they they provide surrender and renounciation certificate together or does we have to apply for it differently? Please kindly help me to figure it out!
Renunciation and surrender is the same thing. Once you have submitted your application, they will give back the cancelled pp and surrender certificate. With the cancelled pp and surrender certificate you can apply for OCI.
Applied for 1 year multiple entry e-visa and no exit visa is required. As we entered and exited on Canadian passport with India e-visa. Hope that helps
No we did not apply for OCI with surrender as for OCI an applicant has to stay in India for a minimum of 6 months and have to get the e-visa converted by visiting the FRRO office.
Hello sir, so much informative video thanks 😊but i have fee questions plz answer that. 1) we don’t need surrender certificate to get Indian e visa? 2) then we can travel India based on e-visa and we can surrender Indian passport in India, 3) Do we need to worry about anything? When we are returning back to Canada? 4) Is there any questions you were ask by Indian immigration officer? About surrender certificate or anything?
Correct, you don't need surrender certificate for e-visa. Yes that's what we did. Traveled to India with e-visa on Canadian PP and surrendered Indian PP in India. You don't need to worry about anything. Don't use your Indian pp anywhere and while returning since you are Canadian no one will stop you, travel using your Canadian PP. No questions were asked by Immigration officer, if they do ask, you can let them know that we get 3 years to Surrender Indian PP after attaining foreign citizenship.
Go to the website www.passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/online/rpo and then select the RPO of state whose officer's you would like to view. The RPO site of that state will open and then on top you would see the RTI tab, click on it and a pdf will open, scroll down that pdf and you will see the list of all staff assigned to that RPO. Hope that helps
Hi Sir, i am now a canadian citizen, i need to travel to India urgently on October. I dont have time to surrender my Indian passport now. So can i apply for evisa with my canadian passport without surrendering Indian passport. My Indian passport got expired too... Could you please let me know. Thankyou.
Yes, you can surrender it in India. Travel to India on e-visa with your Canadian pp and return also on Canadian pp. Make sure you get back your Cancelled Indian pp as you would need that to apply for OCI in Canada.
Thanks for the informative video. I can totally hear you about Indian way of doing things. But I would still say its worth it compared to the BLS attitude here. Also, you would have tried offering them like rs. 500 or so additionally to the clerk he would have done it way faster and you would have saved the time. and still cheaper than BLS charges.
