Galvan rules. Support the small fly fishing businesses that haven’t sold out to some soulless corporation.

Familiar with this reel and have Brookies in 2/3, 3/4, and 4/5. The 2/3 in Desert Sand paired especially well with a Trout LL 379-4. The clicker in the Brookie is a bit on the quiet side, but I find it more resonant than either the hollow metallic note of the Colorado or the plastic sound quality of the Asia produced Sage Click. One question regarding your review; did the latest version of the Brookie delete the allen key adjustable spool tensioner found on the earlier versions as you noted a lack of an adjustment in your review. Thanks in advance for your response.

Sooo many of these reels are just overpriced jewelry. On anything smaller that 7-8wt gear you're going to be targeting smaller fish that never run off on the drag of your real anyway! The functionality of these $300+ reals is IDENTICAL to cheaper composite reals.
So much of this stuff is irrelevant anyway. Backing capacity?? I've caught a helluvalotta fish in my day and NEVER gotten into the backing, who cares about the backing capacity.
Spend your money on good line, save everywhere else and don't tell the fish you're poor.

Nathan, you didn't need to go off on a rant after watching a Kelly Galloup video. You must not know how fun carp and corbina are on a 5-6wt. It's obvious that you don't need to spend a lot to start fly fishing, fish with whatever you're willing to spend. Yeah, cheap vs. expensive reels generally have the same functions. They both hold your line and they both have a drag, or at least enough tension to avoid free spooling. The difference is in the design, performance, craftsmanship, reliability, and a family owned business that does it for the love of fly fishing and manufacturing fly reels. Galvan remained true to their roots and are proud of what they do and stand for. They're a dying breed in a corporate dominant industry whose biggest concern is profit margins.
