    When they recorded this for the studio version, they did it in the middle of the night with almost all the lights turned off in the studio. They asked the engineer if he had plenty of tape and he assured them that he did. They started recording this and they just kept playing. The engineer noticed he was running out of tape. SRV had his back to him, so he was trying to get anybody's attention. He finally got Chris Layton, the drummer's attention and was giving him the cut sign. Chris got SRV's attention and gave him the cut sign. They played the last note and as soon as it ended, the tape ran out. They did the studio version in one cut.

      It's been so long ago, but I remember reading it actually did run out & this is the second take, though done in one take as well. I read they much preferred the first take but it ran out much to their regret. I also read Stevie was the only band member that knew it was being recorded. This was their oldest unfinished song, staying on the back burner, being grown from their beginning days & developed/tweaked/perfected over many years. Exquisite masterpiece.

      I had the God gifted life experience of seeing him in the late 70's early 80's in Phoenix. I have seen ZZ TOP and Aerosmith Foreigner, and Foghat, Queen, and Thin Lizzy. Stevie Ray Vaughan was an open channel to God. Playing behind his back, with his teeth, etc. Just a true gift from God

    Stevie plain and simple was a conduit for music. It came from God knows where and flowed through him and out of those strings. A once in a lifetime talent.

    • @SmokeyTreats
      @SmokeyTreats 4 місяці тому

      Yep he sure was. Stevie was the master, though he flew on Jimi's wings. The physicalness of his playing with those heavy strings 56 to 13's & that monster vibrato he shook his strings with is ungodly phenomenal & unsurpassed.

    Some of the greatest reactions to SRV that I have seen. Just when you think a “classical musician“ might turn his nose to the blues… Proof positive that brilliant, musicianship transcends all genres…

    Stevie was just 35 years old when he died. He really was at such a good place in his life, having recovered from addiction to drugs and alcohol, gotten engaged, and found a happy, balanced life that fed his creativity. His career had really taken off, and he & Double Trouble were invited to join Eric Clapton's tour along with brother Jimmy Vaughan and several other headliners for 2 nights at Alpine Valley. Stevie ended up taking the one empty seat left on the last of four helicopters heading back to Chicago after their second performance; but due to heavy fog the pilot got disoriented and hit a ski hill less than a mile from the stage, instantly killing all aboard. It was a shock & a tragedy that devastated his family, friends, peers and fans. Stevie left us in 1990, but the legacy he left through his music lives on.

    Being a child of the 70’s and 80’s in my opinion music was climbing the mountain at high speed. There were so many phenomenal musicians and bands. If anyone agrees please laugh with me but when Stevie died it was like all of music stepped off the cliff. It slid on the slope for a time in the early 90’s, then just dropped. Eddie Van Halen said music has a cycle and I hope it turns around soon. We may never have another Stevie but I would like to hear someone come close

      I agree. If you'd like to hear great guitarists who are still working I kindly suggest Steve Morse and Steve Hackett. Both have been around since the 70's, and are still performing... Hope you see them perform live while they are with us. With Peace and Love to all! (Michael)

    And that guy tinkling the piano keys is Reese Wynans. A true talent. When SRV passed away Joe Bonamassa asked him to joim his grp and he did. Not sure if he is still with them. Pure talent added to Joe Bonamassa. ( maybe go down that guitar rabbit hole soon?)

    Reese Winans is the most talented keys player. It’s amusing to watch him swivel from keyboard to organ… and sometimes one hand on each different instrument at the same time. Reese is currently playing with Joe Bonamassa, another amazing guitarist. Electric and acoustic; acoustic concert at Carnegie Hall with different instrumentalists, in their native dress, is quite something!

    SRV had a deep LOVE for the Blues, but he was a student of the Guitar as well. he poured everything into his Guitar, and His Guitar responded. As Eric CLapton once said "He was an open channel" It just flowed through him effortlessly

    hes my favorite guitarist and his death was tragic. He had suffered from addiction and had recovered clean playing even better than before. Saw him live 3 months before his passing and he was mesmerizing, playing with real passion. On that snowy night in the mountains he and either Eric Clapton or Robert Cray playing for friends graciously gave his helicopter ride up to stay and play some more. weather got worse and lets just say,RIP Stevie. Had used piano stings due to sheer size and won't break on his. Les Paul added a new line thicker just for him, which he still broke lol. There is a short clip of him playing the hell out of a vintage 53 ish acoustic guitar. WOW

    @Jone Ruiz Guitar ...Appreciated your ponderings. Please make time to listen to a song called "Tick Tock" that was included on the album Stevie did with his brother Jimmy Vaughan and which was released just after SRV and others passed away in a helicopter crash on that tragic day in August 1990. Stevie was 35. There are no live video versions of Stevie performing the song, just the audio track released on the album and a compilation video that Jimmy put together. But it is a profound and prescient last message conveying beauty and love, and giving hope to all who will listen. SRV was a magnificent and humble soul whose musical skill, interpretive innovations, and sincere message is what the world needs... now more than ever.

    funny note, BB King was with Eric Clapton behind stage when stevie started to play. BB wanted to check out the new phenomenon player. Shocked to see hin white, thought he was black because he had soul playing. Lol sees a white guy with snake skin cowboy boots leather vest wearing a stiletto feathered hat and said he's the blackest white guy alive. Then Eric said he had to leave after 5 mins of seeing him cause he said he'd quit playing and throw away his guitars......THE GOAT
