Got my set a few months ago and they are a revelation. Mucked about long enough thinking I didn't need them and persevered with the ways I always used. To avoid trying keep a narrow piece of scribe material straight i use say a 100mm piece that i know is straight and have it sitting on the inside of the unit, so long as I use a 100mm scribing block, the only issue is the tails of the jigs get in the way but the result is the same. Fine run of videos from you.
Hi John. I get exactly what you're saying. If the carcass gable bows out, I'll just pack it straight from the wall, and if it bows, I'll usually fit a shelf in the middle of the unit to push it straight👊 Thanks for watching and your comment 😎 Cheers Del
Del, I have this kit. Not sure if you know this….. if you have say a 120 panel but need to cut it for a 60mm end filler. You don’t need to cut it down first. You can fit the jigs to the back of the panel and clip it on the edge with the panel on the inside. You then get an off cut of the 120mm and use that to scribe your wall. The only slight flaw with this method is when you come to the jig positions, you have to miss them out but it works really well and you only have one cut rather than 2. I also find using the track saw on a slight back cut gets a great finish and allows a neat finish . Sorry if you already knew this method.
Hi Paul. I get exactly what you mean. You're basically using the jig to hold the panel in place, and then cutting a scribe block the right width to mark it. I will a definitely apply it on the next kitchens on this site👊 I'm still finding my feet with my track saw, so may well give it a go on scribes🤩Thanks for your tip and for putting down in the comments for others to see👍Cheers Del

Brilliant video ,love u-scribe but can you use the scribe to make the length of wood sit inside the gap flush with the carcass rather than a overhang if that makes any sense .
Hi Simon. I know what you mean, and the scribes I'm cutting in the video would perfectly sit 'in the gap' and be flush to the carcass face, but I just project these out with another strip of material so the sit in the linebof the doors👍 Great comment and thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del

Hi there🖐I cut the 'carrier' peice 35mm wide and screwed it into the back of the scribe with 50mm screws, ensuring it was flush with the bottom edge👍Cheers Del
Thank you for replying to my comment :) You screwed across the board into chips. Weren't you afraid that the chips would push the board apart? Did you drill first?
@piotrchojnowski1112 I did exactly as you suggest, and drilled a 4mm clearance hole right the way through the centre of the 'carrier' piece, and then GENTLY put 4x50 screws in until the two pieces were tight together👌
Hi Darren. I take my time bud, but I do sometimes feel like I'm going 'snow blind' when I'm following it on a white panel🙈I was going to video it, but it just wasn't possible😬Thanks for watching😎Cheers Del
@@darrenroche9225 You just need to be really mindful of the rear of the blade, as if you touch the cut on the upward rotation of the blade, it will make a right mess😬Cheers bud
Hi Mohammed. Amazing that I, like you, have used 1mm double sided window tape to hold them in place whilst marking👊Get yourself some mate, you won't be disappointed 😉Cheers Del
Great little simple tool, but when you have a base unit door, if you make them exactly flush on the unit they will sit back a couple of mill, because the doors have a couple mill gap from the unit!! so do i have to bring them out level with the door and allow a small piece of the backing fillet to show? ( mine is on the hinge side so it wont be seen i think).....is that correct?
Brilliant explanation, I guess you could apply the same to the kick boards only upside down. Have you used them to scribe a pannel that's flush with the underside of the top of the carcass. I'd love a video on that
Hi Dan. They are super adaptable, but I'm not sure I quite understand where you mean the panel would be scribed on the underside of the top of the carcass 🤔Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter sorry bad at explaining myself. Say you wanted to make a face frame around a carcass so the panel would fit flush to the inside of the cabinet
Hi Del, hope you're well! Quick question sorry maybe bit obvious, how did you go about attaching the back bit to the scribe bit if that makes sense!!! Would be great if you could do a step by step vid on these filler pieces? Especially the ones that are flush to the door? Thanks again and great vids, also loving your energy and enthusiasm!!! Take care

Great video and now make a bit more sense in how they work. Just one question though; if tge jigs are fixed and the thickness of the scribe off cut has to be the same size ard the carcass then what is the measurement from the ceiling to the middle of the unit for?
Great video. Seen these on another UA-cam video. Cannot remember the firms name though. Would love to see how these are done on a table saw. I have used a jigsaw and would never have thought of the table saw. Remember the name now. Free bird carpentry. Great you rube channel

Hi Derek nice video to showcase this great little invention, I saw these a couple of years ago on 10 minute workshop by Peter Millard and promptly bought some. This may seem like a silly question but how did you fix the secondary piece and right angle to the scribe to allow it to protrude 22mm to be flush with the doors? keep up the good work
Hi Kevin. I do a feel like a right plank for not discovering these great jigs ages ago, as they are really cool👊 I rip down a carrier strip on the table saw at 35mm and screw it to the back, bottom edge of the filler panel and with 4x50 screws👍I think I'm going to do a little video on it, as its quite a cute little detail😎Great comment, and thanks for watching🤩(I'm going to watch Peter Millard videos now to see what other cool marking aids I'm missing out on🤗) Cheers Del

Nice vid, good demonstration Just out of interest, who supplied the kitchen in the vid? Liked those euro hinge clips to the carcasses, look smart. Do they still have much adjustment, up and down?
Hi there. The kitchen is put together by a company who source the units from one manufacturer and the doors from another. The hinges have got a smart little mounting back plate, and adjust up, down, forward, backwards and in and out the same amount as most other hinges I've come across👍Thanks for watching
I have a 600 larder kitchen cupboard already in place and fitted but I'm planning on installing another 600 for a integrated fridge freezer 70/30. My problem is I can seem to get the doors property lines up???? Any tips please
Great little gadget. The only problem I have with this solution is, that now the wonky ceiling (or wall) line is transferred and emphasized in the trim. Personally I can never unsee the wave... For a perfect finish even out the ceiling/wall, even if it just for that general area, so the trim can be dead on straight. I do realize that there are very few walls or ceilings that aren't cattywompus in some way or other ;) It's almost as if screeds and darby's are esoteric ancient artefacts whose usage has been lost to time...
Great product Del. Laser update. It's too much of a faff to use the laser for anything shorter than 3 metres. I'm sticking to my normal method, folding rule for 0 - 900mm, 5m tape 900mm - 3metres, laser 3metre plus. I've also binned the pica and gone back to my school pencils 👍 Loving the kitchen vids btw, kitchens are my bread and butter.
Hi there🖐If I understand your question, the scribing block length is not critical, so I make it small enough to follow the contours of the wall, but big enough to hold and rest a pencil on👍Cheers Del
Hi Del.....I noticed you fixed your filler so that the base was in line with the underside of the carcass, hence why you had difficulty with the top edges, having to cut them beforehand. If you had set your filler so that the top of it was level with the top of the unit, you wouldn't have had that issue. You would have then used an off-cut from the filler, the same size, to scribe along the ceiling. I know this video is a year old, so maybe you have already noticed this. U-Scribe have their own page on UA-cam, watch it, you'll see what I mean :)
Del can I ask do you know a national supplier of kitchen units & doors etc I'm currently using Howdens & have spent over £70k on kitchens this year & find them quite expensive Any advice would be appreciated I'm in Liverpool 👍
@@brianmoore47 Hi Brian. I'm not really into kitchens as a rule and tend to just fit one in whatever house I'm building. The carcasses are from one supplier and the doors/panels are from another👍 Cheers Del

Hi Sicpac66🖐 Your the second guy that's mentioned the block scribe, and it sound 👍 I must get one👊 Thanks for your comment mate and for watching 😎 Cheers Del

I usually hold it flush with the edge of the carcass and run down the wall or ceiling with an 18mm block to do my scribes same as this but as you know working on your own it can be hard to hold them, so these jigs are brilliant do all the hard bit for you, I’m definitely going to get some, thanks for sharing not seen them before 👍

They certainly are Phenrica🤩Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Brilliant video ,love u-scribe but can you use the scribe to make the length of wood sit inside the gap flush with the carcass rather than a overhang if that makes any sense .
Hi Simon. I know what you mean, and the scribes I'm cutting in the video would perfectly sit 'in the gap' and be flush to the carcass face, but I just project these out with another strip of material so the sit in the linebof the doors👍 Great comment and thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter Oh i think i get it ,because your strip of wood was the same size as the frame carcass ,it would fit in the gap perfectly, what a fantastic bit of kit, cannot believe that i am now excited about ordering one lol , massive thank you Del for sharing your knowledge with us mere mortals lol .

How did you connect these two "L" panel elements together? It seems no screws. Glue maybe?
@@thetallcarpenter I''ll try it on the next job. You should get Noble prize for that :) Thanks you so much for help!

Hi Johny 🖐Yes, you are correct and the panel does need to come out that extra couple of mm. 👍Cheers Del
Love these. Wish they came in 1/2 as well.
I don't know Kermit🤔Bestcgeck out the U Scribe website👍Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter I did, that’s how I know they don’t.
Thanks for the video though. Great idea.
Just use a packer to help.. no problem
Do you tilt the saw blade slightly to give a tight face edge of the scribe ? Good product for kitchen fitting
I tend to run a planer down just slightly removing the angle
Hi Goner. Generally I cut with the saw a 90 degrees, but may just back off the cut with a planer if necessary👊Thanks for watching🤩
Same here Gary👊Cheers bud
Brilliant explanation, I guess you could apply the same to the kick boards only upside down.
Have you used them to scribe a pannel that's flush with the underside of the top of the carcass. I'd love a video on that
Hi Dan. They are super adaptable, but I'm not sure I quite understand where you mean the panel would be scribed on the underside of the top of the carcass 🤔Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter sorry bad at explaining myself.
Say you wanted to make a face frame around a carcass so the panel would fit flush to the inside of the cabinet

Quick question sorry maybe bit obvious, how did you go about attaching the back bit to the scribe bit if that makes sense!!!

Have you fixed a timber to the back if you overhang the scribed piece ?
Hi David. Yes bud. I ripped that carrier strip to 35mm wide and drilled and screwed it to the back bottom edge of the scribe with 4x50 screws👊 I'll probably do a short video showing this detail👍Thanks for watching😎Cheers Del
Great video and now make a bit more sense in how they work.
Just one question though; if tge jigs are fixed and the thickness of the scribe off cut has to be the same size ard the carcass then what is the measurement from the ceiling to the middle of the unit for?

That's a great comment🤩and I know what you mean about excentuating wonkey wall and ceiling lines, but that's not usually our department🤔Cheers Del

Laser update. It's too much of a faff to use the laser for anything shorter than 3 metres. I'm sticking to my normal method, folding rule for 0 - 900mm, 5m tape 900mm - 3metres, laser 3metre plus. I've also binned the pica and gone back to my school pencils 👍

How did you figure out the distance bloc length ? ( pencil marking ')
Thats a great tip bud🤩and I'm always ready to take advice on new methods😎Cheers Del
