    Good to know. Although I didn't need to replace the auger, it did show me the proper steps to clear a jam. The only pellets to ever jam my GMG Jim Bowie are the Lumberjack Char Hickory. First time I used them was last weekend. First jam I've had in five years. Otherwise I use GMG or Lumberjack pellets exclusively, whichever is on sale when I'm restocking.

    This is a lot more fun to do when you drink a bunch of beer and not watch the video first.

    I've had my grill about 7 months and the auger has failed twice. I've also had 2 ignitors fail. GMG is sending me a new ignitor. I just found the auger issue so I'm not sure what they will do about that.

    Not fair using a brand new grill. Should be using mine covered in 4 years of grilling, BBQing, and smoking residue. 😁
    I've had my Jim Bowie since 2016. I had to replace the control panel last summer. Everything else is still going strong. Getting the heat distributed is my biggest problem.

    Eric, I got my grill back in 13 and forgot to take the pellets out and they expended in the hopper causing a clog is this the only way to clear it out?

    While the grill is basically the same as it was 6 years ago I can tell you that having to do this sucks. I just tried to replace some gaskets. I’m not confident in my replacing.
    An updated video with some better closeups would be helpful.

      Which grill style do you have? What is the serial number on yours?

    The 40 dollar cover is a lot cheaper than replacing the auger. My auger got destroyed by the rain over the winter and I didn't clear out the pellets. Total disaster, all my fault. As General George S. Patton said, "No machine is greater than its operator."

    How do you remove the auger if it is jammed? Or do you just have to buy a whole new assembly?

    • @GMGrills
      @GMGrills  6 років тому +2

      You can take off the cotter pin that attaches where the motor and auger bit meet. This will allow you to take off the motor. If the auger bit is really stuck, you can tap the auger tube with a hammer to loosen up the jammed pellets.

    IF the shear pin is broken, do I need to replace the whole assembly? Or can I replace a portion of it, like the pin, or the motor? (I am unclear on where te pin actually is in the assembly)

    • @wilsonrawlin8547
      @wilsonrawlin8547 3 роки тому

      I would just replace the shear pin. Definitely clean the auger and feed tube so the jam is cleared. That's probably what sheared the pin.

    I’ve had nothing but issues with my GMG and they all seem to revolve around the hopper. It’s unfortunate

    A wiring diagram would be immensely helpful. This video does not show a close up of the connections. I am a bit frustrated with the way this was shipped with no diagram.

    What does the auger do? What's its purpose? How necessary is it to have?

    • @GMGrills
      @GMGrills  2 роки тому

      It feeds the pellets into the firepot which keeps that fire going. Very necessary if using a pellet grill!

    Why would an auger assembly need to be removed on a fairly new grill? For me, it's been unfortunate because it jams or stops working for whatever reason. I just wanna BBQ.

      B M**se I found it to be an ongoing problem, even after replacing the auger twice. I would steer clear of GMG and it's products.

    I'd have never bought a GMG or any pellet grill if I'd have know the level of upkeep and maintenance just to keep this thing "grilling." You're just going to want to measure just the right amount of pellets and burn through everything each cook. Any left over will turn into auger cement the next time it rains. No real easy access to unstick the auger as shown in this video, disassembly is terrible. Need easier access or an unjamming tool for the fire box end of the auger. Also for the people thinking buying one. Pellets, even with an additional tube going in the grill chamber and additional hours of low temp "smoking," will only give you a fraction of the smoke flavor of a traditional offset wood smoker. Be warned, this is just a low temp grill and NOT a true smoker.

      Constant jamming is not a normal thing for our grills, call into our tech support line and we will troubleshoot your issue! 1-800-603-3398 ext #1

      2 things that are common sense. Cover smoker after each use of course after cool down or just simply put it in the garage or covered patio. That just may help as you say auger cement. 2nd thing. You more of a smoke taste use a stronger flavoring pellet as mesquite and that just might solve the problem. This as most people know are essentially a conventional oven with a smoker box. We also go into this knowing it's not a true wood burning smoker that you can put big wood chips in. Best thing is before anyone buys anything that may be a big purchase is to read and get knowledge of the product. I have had my GMG Daniel Boone and has always done me right. For anyone else looking to purchase, it's a great product if you dont leave it in the rain,sprinklers and dont mind doing maintenance on a normal basis as you would do your car. That is just common since. This thing is electric and should be no where around water to begin with. Not putting anyone down by all means just sharing a little food for thought.

      Cng-Hydrographics Yeah I wish someone had enlightened me beforehand how large a gulf there is for smoked flavors pellets vs smokers. It’s not even close. Thanks for the mesquite suggestion, I have used it from various pellet brands, still an approximation of a real smoker. The only thing this has over an offset is the set it and forget it nature with no tending. Even then the hopper level sensor is so sensitive it goes off with any slight loosening of pellets. I’ve just put electric tape on mine so the neighbors don’t have to listen to my alarm all day/night.

      Eugene Stoner I hear you on that. They do have a huge variety of pellets for sure. I tend to check my pellets before they go I. I dont like putting the longer pellets In. I love mi e for sure, however more up keep.

    Ok. So same day as purchase, the auger fails. We called and GMG ships a new assembly GROUND. Not overnight. We received new assembly. It's for the wrong model!!!! Nearly one thousand dollars and still not a working unit.

    2:45. Not exactly true. My wires are on opposite sides. White is not by clip side. Just match what wire is on the other plug.

    I used my Daniel Boone grill about 7 times before the auger failed. GMG gave me the run around several times on the phone (telling me to replace some small pin on the inside which they suspected had somehow been sheared off? Lol). Anyway they finally sent me a new auger. I’m in the middle of replacing it now and really can’t understand how a company can ship a product like this, and then expect you to perform the repair yourself. This thing wasn’t cheap. Absolutely ridiculous.

    This pellet grill is very expensive so why can't they make a dependable product. Who wants to go through all that trouble just to get it going again. I'll stick to my weber. 2 minutes to replace a bad burner.
