Many thanks for taking me back to Bletchingley, I was born in Redhill but lived in Bletchingley for the first 24 years of my life until I left England to live in Australia, I am now living in Cambodia. Thank you for the memories.
Great video Marq. That circular walk is amazing. The wife and I have walked it a few times, as well as in the snow, which was interesting. Bletchingley is our home now, we moved here in June 2019. It is a beautiful village with a lot of friendly folks. The views of the countryside surrounding the village are breathtaking. The Whyte Hart pub is also open again. If you had done this video in 2020, you would have been blessed with bird songs and mostly silence from the M25 and M23.
Walked straight past the picture of Desmond Tutu, he was the curate there 1965 - 1967 ... I was born and raised in Bletchingley, (originally called Bletchinly, having the E added by the post office) Growing up and having numerous school trips to the church we were always told the Hermits chamber was carved in the wall so a local hermit could watch the church services without having to come in. there was also a source of water there for him. The motorway was the M23, the M25 is further to the north and cant be seen from your location. The remains of the castle were just behind you and where you were stood you were standing just on the rim of part of it... again numerous school trips.. Absolutely loved the video... just trying to add some info and in no way criticise the maker. If my memory has failed me and I'm wrong then i apologise, but having spent my childhood running around those fields and paths and endless hours of playing im pretty familiar with the area. thanks again for such a wonderful and nostalgic film
Many thanks for the great memories and info. I did film a bit about Desmond Tutu in the Church but didn't include it (little bit of trivia in that his son was a teacher at my High School).
@@MarqEnglish thanks for getting back to me a brilliant video, first time of seeing your vlogs as it came up in my recommenced list, i'll be sure to watch more...
Hi, I was born at the Red Lion pub (64 years ago), as my grandparents were the landlords! King Henry VIII apparently owned the pub. Lots of good spirits in that place. I have such fond memories of my childhood there. Thank you for the video
Great video Marq. I used to live in Bletchingley many years ago. Very sad to see the Whyte Hart pub closed - was lovely and cosy inside on a Winter's day.
Great video - there’s some lovely houses there! I was in Bletchingley on Tuesday when I walked the greensand way from Reigate. The castle was actually behind you when you were looking at the view - it’s hidden behind the laurels! (The motorway you could see is the m23.) The church is lovely but I’ve only been inside on a gloomy day which makes it quite dark.
Love this little village! Great video, Marq! I would love to lease the Whyte Hart and reopen it if I lived in the UK! That church would be amazing to visit!
Lovely village indeed. I lived there for over 30 years....sad not to see my old cottage which is in a row at the top end with the date and builder marked on the middle one....built by DB.....Daniel Britten for the record. 1862 if memory serves. Such a pity the author of this video did not to a bit more research and mostly blagged it. Fyi at 1.40? he points out the motorway.....it's the M23 not M25 which is impossible to see from that viewpoint.
Well as the 'Author of this Video', I'm not a Historian and didn't 'blag' anything as far as I'm aware but there are always good folk like yourself to point out little errors from a 4 years old Video!
I did not wish to upset but it seems to me that you had done very little research on an historic village. Indeed, layers of history. By the bye your mike level massively exaggerated the traffic noise.

Thanks Roger, glad I stirred the memories.

@@dibby4973 Many thanks, that's really appreciated.
Love those village signs. So pleased that the church seemed far enough away from the traffic noise not to be disturbed by it.

Thanks for sharing your lovely Memories.
Another delightful video, in a delightful village with a delightful church door to fondle!
Thanks Nigel, shame about the traffic though.

Thanks Judith, such a shame about the Pub.
Thank you for the video. We only lived there for a short time but it was lovely. The people were so nice. Thank you for the walk!

Really? I was going to ask if you were around but thought you'd be working.
Marq English - you weren’t there on Tuesday were you? The weather was grim!
@@MrGreatplum I was Sir.
Some lovely views there. Sad about the pub!
Yeah, a big shame Dave.
The Whyte Harte pub has reopened, I was told that it was closed for refurbishment, according to old reviews that I read it was very rundown.
Thank you Roger, that's good news to hear.

Such a shame about the Pub considering how old it is. Thanks for watching guys.
It's open again..

Thanks John.
