"to have a friend you need to be a friend"
Friendship and good questions and conversation, takes practice, and being intentional. Before spending time with a friend, I'll plan out a few questions about something that we talked about last time, something they posted about, or something I've been looking into in my own life. During conversations I try to ask questions as topics come up that will go a little deeper into their thoughts and feelings instead of staying with rote shallow questions all the time. And conversations should be like a ball that we bounce back and forth to each other. So I am ready to open up to them as well and share my thoughts and feelings with them.
Sometimes, God gives us friendships we didn't expect that turn out to be exactly what we need.
Give yourself, and other people, grace. There are seasons, nobody's perfect, and relationship building takes time. Be ready to forgive your new friend and keep your own expectations in check. Life is complicated for all of us, and we all could use more grace and understanding.
