Did this route 40+ years ago with my family on a camping trip. We stayed at Two Jack Lake campground in Banff and also at the Athabasca campground right across from the glacier further north - not sure if this campground is still there. It snowed in August at Athabasca ! On the campground that day were 2 guys getting ready to climb the next day. It is on my bucket list to get back there as an adult and stay in some of the great regional lodges : maybe at Moraine Lake, Malign Lake and Jasper . Beautiful video: truly God's country.
Done this drive many times and at different times of the year. It's always fantastic. At 2:00 you see evergreen trees that are red in color due to the Mountain pine beetle. This beetle has been silently destroying the forests of British Columbia and are spreading eastward. They used to be controlled naturally by summer forest fires and -40 degree winters. Now we put out forest fires as quickly as we can and the winters don't get as cold as they used to due to global climate change.
Was lucky to do this drive with my friends a few years back.. dream drive but once is not enough.. a life time wouldn’t be enough. Came across a lake that everyone was walking across but unsure where.. I recall it being near the Pocahontas cabins.. coming from west. Would love to find this location again.

I worked for parks Canada and drove this hwy countless times. mostly lake Louis the the icefield
