  • Today we go over some common tendencies I see in full motion mechanics. We focus on the beginning part of the pitch in this part 1 video: the backswing, striding towards the catcher, and hand orientation. Plus Ultra!!

Thank you for these straight forward explanations. There are a seriously lack of fast pitch coaches in our area and I’m trying to teach myself so I can help our beginning girls.

Thank you so much this is such great info. I realized when my daughter started a backswing accuracy was an issue. I think when she gets on the mound she thinks she needs the extra momentum then messes up her mechanics.

Backswings aren’t inherently “bad,” but we definitely don’t want to sacrifice mechanics to gain a little extra momentum!

@@plusultrapitching Agreed thank you! Makes so much since I'm pushing for no back swing until her body muscle memory is a little stronger. Thanks again

Good stuff, Amelia has those problems as we discussed. I really didn't encourage her to change the hand position yet, in the middle of the season, but she is really struggling with her control anyway, so maybe we will try to consistently practice it. I do occasionally see the ball disappear behind her back and point it out to her. She says its hard for her to feel that and is unaware of it during a game

Yes I can imagine it would be hard to feel once you’re moving full speed. Wall drills may be helpful to help her body develop the muscle memory

Always good common sense analysis well explained. If external roation is bad shouldn't we stop teaching the roll over drop?

Hi Dan, there are ways to throw the roll over drop without externally rotating your shoulder. We’re going to get into different pitches in the future, but if you’re interested in learning more send me an email and I would be happy to set up some time to discuss this and other pitches! Those are good pointers what about the Lefty throwing 2 ft to 3 ft outside correction thank you.

When you say outside for a lefty, are you talking on the outside corner to a lefty or righty batter?
