The saddest thing of that chapter besides the war itself is that Neda and her family were so badly hurt in the deadly attack that Marjane didn't recognize the tattered limb as Nedas arm only that the bracelet she recognized as Nedas was still attached to... something....and I think that perfectly captures the horror because if you can't even tell if a limb is an arm or a leg that gives you insight as to how devastating the weapons being used were.
Both the book and the movie are so so compelling to sit through. All that time thinking that the middle east should be left to itself and actual people lived through the horror waiting for help that never came
Bet you dollars to donuts a little Iranian girl sang a hopeful song somewhere in a bomb shelter during this war, and the wars in the middle east that followed to this day, yet no one cared for that little girl or the people she sang to uplift
Yet Ukraine gets all this pity today
Where was this pity in the 80s when we could have stopped more than half the crap still raging on today?
