I always wonder who the curmudgeons are that say thumbs down to a LMA Sarah tutorial. These tutorials are amazing and Sarah is amazing. I have been a very detailed, fastidious watercolor painter and I strive to loosen up, chill out and not paint so realistically. Tutorials like this are an amazing exercise for someone like me. I also love that Sarah presents her lessons in a way that anyone can experience success, AND know that the road to success may mean your paper winds up in the trash, and that's OK. I learn so much from you. I love you LMA and staff!!! Two thumbs up and my toes too!
I've never thought that drawing penguins can be so fun! It was so calming that I can draw these little cuties endless... Thank you so much, Sarah! You're a real sun in this wintertime!❤️
A Merry Christmas to you Sara; and to you Keenan 🎄 I so much enjoy watching you paint. You are the sweetest and most patient, always encouraging those who are just starting out. I enjoy your relationship with Keenan. You all make me chuckle😁 I hope you have a blessed joyous New year.
I have watched this video before & have just had to "dig it up," going through some changes to find it again. LOL And just your 1st little bit of a talk made me almost cry. Golly, maybe I am going through more stuff than I thought. LOL (I am on hospice; terminal cancer.) I love you guys Sarah! GOD BLESS YOU & THANK YOU SO MUCH❣ I'm gonna paint some penguins now 😁 💙from Kathie in Lebanon,Tennessee
For help with mapping out where on the paper the penguins will go, and since there are 5, you can do the center one first in the middle of the paper and then add two on either side for a more accurate centering. Hope that makes sense. Love these little guys! 💕 🐧
Sarah I would like to thank you for always telling us to just enjoy painting it is your painting. It is giving me confidence in painting again I took a couple of classes. And one class the teacher was going over our paintings in front of class and I used black she said we never use black in painting and thru it on the floor So thank you for always saying you can do this it is yours. Thank you donna I want to paint again and I’m. Not afraid. 😀
Your paintings are your own creations. If you prefer to use color straight from the bottle or tray who is anyone else to judge you. Many artists prefer to mix their colors for an added layer of depth but in the end it is personal preference.
Sarah, thanks for sharing your process, it's always interesting to hear. Really liked explanation of how to create character, super easy, but a good reminder🐧❤️
I just discovered you today . The way you express yourself is amazingly works for me ! You are like in my brain . And you are just saying the right word every single time my brains shifts or loosen , and I can keep myself in the route I wanna be walking on :)))) THAAAAANK YOUUUUU
What a lovely result, I'm pleased to see I'm not the only one that has to do some practice pieces before going for it. Thank you for such a pretty & gentle winter scene with penguins. Just lovely. God Bless to you & your family. Happy Christmas from South Wales, UK. 🏴🙏🙏🌍🎄🕯💝
I tell you what is ths funniest thing that can happened. And it' s happening to me each time I paint. At the end, whilst my paint is still wet,my cat Zita, comes and sit on my paper! I think she is an art critic.😂😂Not a nice one, cause she treats my " masterpieces" with her butt.Yeah, sometimes she' s right.😂😂😂
Omg, just how insecure do you have to be to do that oath? And more importantly: why are you so insecure? These are just 🐧🐧🐧🐧!!! It is also bad practice if you are actually doing smth professionally to not compare yourself to other people. You must compare to know where you stand.
Drug Vash she does that with EVERY painting she teaches. A lot of us compare our work and get stressed if they don't look the same as hers. It is a reminder to have fun!
I am sorry you feel that way Drug. As Rose stated below we do the oath with the purpose of helping new painters let go of the fear of not doing it correctly.
I am a teacher. I see a lot people grow up saying, "I'm not creative, I can't paint, I can't do art.." Why do they think this? Because parents, teachers and others have sent the wrong message to them all along the way. Preschool students are asked by parents and lousy teachers, "What is it?" At that age it's nothing. It was the process that was enjoyed, not the end product. So now the child feels they failed because they didn't make something they could put a name to. Grammar school teachers hold up their sample of a craft to be done. If a child's doesn't look like the teachers, they feel they have failed. By high school the artists and non artists have been sorted out and the passive, negative messages continue. Sarah's constant messages of "that's ok" and "it's all good" and her oath really help to undo the damage society does to our creativity and artistic abilities. I personally loved the message that it is just paper and it can go in the trash and I can just try again and keep on keepin' on. I'm not a new painter. I'm one of those that have been told my whole life I am artistically talented, but I personally, embrace her message as it is very calming and makes painting that much more fun.

This is So good💕This is very nice! I like it a lot!!! New friend! Have a nice day! 😊
Thank you! You too!
ha ha, arrange your penguins like cookies on a cookie sheet, about 2 inches apart, LOL
mmmm cookies!
I gave the penguins little flippers so they were all holding hands
a reminder that all the shadows need to go in the same direction based on the light source.
Needed to hear this.. I often get frustrated and unmotivated by my progress... Thank you..
I will keep trying
Same. You’re not alone
Keep it up
You've got this!
What’s the dr ph Martin’s equivalent of Payne’s grey?
They do have a Payne's Grey, although I don't think that using exact grey is crucial. Payne's Gray is a very traditional watercolor color.
ultramarine blue mixed with a small amount of black will get you payne's grey.
The best thing to start off my NY: “worst thing is I throw it out”.
Exactly!
They are baby penguins because they are so fluffy.
what brand are the paints from??
Hi Vivian! These paints are Dandelion Paint Co. liquid watercolors. They are comparable to Dr. P.H. Martin paints.
I wanted to watch this video but the oath stuff is just creepy. Can the guy filmsing be quiet. I just want to watch the artist and learn
