Hiya stealth . I hope you are well . Thiswas one of those tests ive always wanted to do . Im a gas man these days . My experiment days are over 😊. Infact after that bow drill . I even think i prefer a duvet and home heating system. The soot to me is an indicator of not enough oxygen or not enough surface area for the fuel to burn . Thats a good result at five minutes. .
hi own , all goid thanks bud, hopefully same your way :) yea I found it interesting just wish I'd tried it on its own first 🤣 never mind I will try again, may not be any goid but worth trying. yes totally agree I prefer gas as its cleaner and easier 👍 must try these things though . nobody mention bow drill 🤣 I'm still trying 😤 take care bud 👍🦫🏕
@STEALTH_CAR_CAMPER just in case, after all this time, we think I wonder if this can make a b#mb. SLR back in my day. I never thought of using the Hexi as anything else than cooking. But being RAF, I used a lot less than anyone else.
Not sure about this one Marc.... I think dragon gel is alcohol based so no soot. The barbecue lighter gel may be paraffin based so will soot up unless its mega hot to burn it away. Have you tried nail Polish remover from the pond shop?? That used to work OK in my trangia stove. Good experiment though.... try it again with clean tins and see how it goes. I'm like you mate, can't stand sooty pans!! Keep safe, cheers.
yea same mate I'm not sure but will try it again on its own, I'm pretty sure it was the cotton wool that made such a mess of my tins :( not actually tried nail Polish remover myself but seen it used, will give it a go with my trangia :) just looking at different things to use , may cone across something one day. truth be told I prefer gas as its way cleaner and easier 🤣 take care andy mate 👍🐿
Good experiment buddy didn't give off as much smoke it seemed without the cotton balls..you're always gonna get smoke with anything you burn as the saying goes there's no smoke without fire..I agree with Andrew croft about the nail polish remover iv used that a few times it's a great burner😊catch u on the next one brother
Benny there can be fire without smoke . If you build a pyramid in the middle . . . When I make a camp fire and I don't want a smoke signal , I'll put a big rock right in the middle of the fire and stones under the fire between the ground and the fire . . Almost always eliminates smoke . A pointy triangular rock being the best . .I wonder would that work in you guys burners .
@@Bennybushcraft If there's enough oxygen the smoke should ignite . Just like how the vapor from a candle ignites . Smoke is unburnt fuel to some degree
yes well it was fun , that's what experiments are about isn't it :) definitely a lot less sooty without the cotton wool though. will try again minus the cotton wool :) yep definitely will be trying the nail Polish one bud 👍 🏕🦫🐿
Due to the mess, I only use wood/gel, etc, when I want a stealth brew on a day hike. It's too messy for camping because packing it away in the morning is a pain in the tight backpack.
oh yes I agree with you there bud it is messy, just looking into a few alternatives:) I always use my micro gas stove when out but always fun to experiment:) take care bud, cheers 👍🫡🦫
Enjoyed that experiment bud !! That looks like some good stuff !! That’s what I was wondering , how the water smelled or tasted. Great video !! Take care bud 👍🏼🔥🏕️
yes it was interesting, pretty quick too. smelled OK but I think I will try again with just that stuff, no cotton wool and actually make a coffee n see how it tastes, should be ok I would assume 🤷 thanks bud take care 👍 🏕

@@STEALTH-OUTDOORS yea m8 their the ones fire bricks, fire logs lol, think they may be about £1.50 - £2 know maybe correct me if im wrong but i used to pay 99pence n tha one log would last atleast 12hrs if cut up burned like that

I've used a camping Gaz stove for a good few years now . . I just love how it's the same deal every time
I hadn't realised they were now banned. Oops. Thanks for sharing.

@STEALTH_CAR_CAMPER absolutely.
