Thanks Ken , i was always useless at maths when i was a kid , but after 20 years of piano, ( am now 69) it becomes clear that jazz " improv " ( piano without music score ) is a game of numbers , so i think with this exercise it helps to think of the shapes as a NUMBER sequences so 1 ,7 3 going to 1,3 7 ,,, of course this ASSUMES 😂😂😂 you have spent MANY years learning how the numbers relate to the notes on the piano AND you know the circle of fourths without even having to THINK about it ,, big thanks for helping us guys climb up this very challenging and very hi jazz mountain.

Now that's a good investment. Should consider his books maybe, I have them couple of years, still using them. Together with all his gems on UA-cam and his website, perfect lifelong tourney.

WOW!!!, love this exercise. don't like playing left hand alone but can't improv, so just made something up for the right hand, 5431 (so, fa, mi, do) with some swing, then the 1 becomes the 5 for the next chord, then up an octave, repeat, repeat repeat. here's another one I like, 5679, and in the next chord the 5 becomes the 2 so stay on that note (ie don't move your right hand) and play 2345. hope that makes sense, love playing around with it !!!

I’ve finally drilled my rootless voicings in common progressions until I got those down and was thinking about what to tackle next. These spread voicings seem like a good choice.

But it's always your videos I click on, because you're always there with a solution. Never stop!!!! I need you!!! Haha. Happy Halloween!

Great master-class! Where can I write to obtain the sheet of your arrangement of Summertime?

  • @d.c.i.fraterdzwogchenvovi2031

hi Kent i am recently studing My Romance trying to use the Dim accord and making it independant in the four mediant options so A7 going to Dm Fm Ab minor or Bminor of course seen as C7 when going to Fminor but I remeber that A7 Fminor or in Blue Bossa E7 to Cminor is a situation that exists in the Literature? where?? in Along Came Betty is E7 going to Cmi7 I remeber that such a case is also seen as Phrygian Dominant but nit so often used I believe Herbie Hancock came up with this one....
