For this restoration, the goal was to build an FJ43 Land Cruiser that could be driven at the Copperstate Overland rally and be enjoyed as a weekend driver for years to come. The result is a vehicle that is faithful to the original design, with a few upgrades made for safety, reliability, and comfort.
The 1981 FJ43 we selected had its original 2F engine and was relatively free from rust. During the restoration, the engine, power steering, and front disc brakes were completely rebuilt. We installed a new carburetor, new starter engine, new pumps, and we upgraded to a new aluminum radiator. For safety, we added a custom roll cage, a fire extinguishing system, LED headlights and 4-point seat belts. A new Old Man Emu suspension and 5-speed manual transmission were installed to enhance ride quality. The inside cabin is trimmed in rich, full grain leather and the outside was refinished in Olive 637, a factory Toyota color that contrasts with the beautiful mountains in Arizona and neighboring States.

The FJ43 was the medium wheelbase Land Cruiser, produced from 1960 to 1984. It was produced as a soft top, a hardtop and a 2-door station wagon (the FJ43V). This gasoline-powered Land Cruiser was an ideal option for those who loved the iconic look of the FJ40, but needed a little extra cargo space. Under the hood, you’ll find the ever-reliable Toyota F or 2F engine.
