- In honor of Eric Stonestreet's 18th appearance on the show, Ellen dedicated the scare table to him, since he was the reason she created it in the first place. To celebrate, Ellen gave him a scare from his "Modern Family" co-star, "Jesse Tyler Ferguson." The actor also chatted about what it's been like filming the 11th and final season of the Emmy-winning sitcom.

You have to admit that was pretty slick lol. Lifting up the lid to 'show him the plaque' but really making sure he sees there is no one in there and will feel comfortable that he's not getting scared today. He must have heard them crawling through after she closed it, but Ellen quickly diverted his attention before he thought too hard about it. Well played, Ellen.

She did that whole dedication thing, just to put him at ease and make him think there’s no one in there. He heard that person climbing up and getting into position when he mentioned the noise, because I knew I heard something too. I knew the only way someone was in there, was if they cut out a hole in the floor. When he mentioned Shawshank Redemption, I couldn’t help but laugh - even though I feel horrible from food poisoning. 🤢🤣

You can literally see a strapped up interior of that ottoman between their seats of one of Ellen’s videos when she had Sarah Paulson on. Sarah pulls open the lid of that scare box and the camera focuses on the inside of it and you can see a carnelian red bottom with black Velcro straps that can open and close.
That’s how the person gets in the box from below.
