I have 17,000 miles on my Superformance GT40 MK1. Superformance cars are the most authentic reproductions to the original cars. But they do require a lot of maintenance. I'm just very happy that I can drive my GT40 at least once a week. It is certainly one of the iconic race cars of all time.
@@wixard7 When Superformance designed the car, they maintained the original specifications from the 1960s, with the exception of Willwood brakes and air conditioning. The biggest maintenance issue is with the wheel bearings. They need to be checked every few hundred miles. Superformance should have upgraded them to a more modern standard. You can't take these cars to your local mechanic. You need to have these cars serviced by people who are familiar with them. And Superformance in Irvine, California, is very poor in terms of their technical support.
Dave NC Nice. I just ordered an RCR GT40. I am looking forward to building it. I am not going for brutal and original. I am going to tame it a bit. Upgrade the interior, insulate it it for sound and use a California compliant engine. These are simply beautifully designed and really hold up to the test of time. For non aero cars, their performance is amazing.
The ‘40’ actually is the height to the wind shield, due to the racing regulations & not as some think the overall height of the vehicle.. the overall height is 40:5 inches.
Since it’s a legitimate race car, if you drive it around town (slow stop&go) will it overheat easily? Don’t you need to drive fast to create airflow through the intakes to keep the engine cool?
Yes, you're absolutely right! In stop and go driving it will overheat - it does need to be driven fast... 😄Please give the video a LIKE 👍 and SUBSCRIBE to the channel 🙏
I may be wrong, but I remember reading somewhere that each prototype cars needed to available to the public, but in very smaller numbers (around 15-30). That’s why the cars have passenger seats, storage, spare tires, etc. It would be weird if Ford or any other manufacturer would make a car that could overheat when driven regularly.
The Superformance versions are licensed continuations. The only differences are safety improvements. About 85% of it is interchangeable with an original GT40.

What type of maintenance do you all need to do to yours that makes it a lot of maintenance?

@@davenc8527 What a bizarre choice to stick with original design bearings. Are there no modern alternatives that can be fit?
Incredible seeing it actually used and slightly dirty. She's driven well!!!

I doubt it overheats in stop and go, it has an electric cooling fan.

Wait a minute. So the company that made the GT40 is not Ford and they technically have the license to make continuations of it?
oh.. I thought it was a 60s original...

My brother is having a mk1 built by David Brown. DB's work is VERY different than Superformance, DB's cars are perfect and accurate.
