  • It's been a miserable start for many holidaymakers hoping the Jubilee bank holiday weekend would be the chance for a foreign getaway.
    (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
The travel firm TUI is cancelling hundreds of flights at Manchester airport, blaming "operational reasons".
There were also chaotic scenes and lengthy queues at other airports including Heathrow and Bristol, while some passengers at Manchester were left with nowhere to go.
We spoke to one family whose long awaited holiday plans were ruined.

Exactly. They won't fill those jobs now without doubling the money they are offering, because everyone now knows they would be doing two people's jobs and will want two people's pay. Someone here said that people that worked in airports found better jobs because foreign workers left better paid jobs😂😂😂😂
Foreign workers were a big big part of airport workforce, specially baggage handling, check in, catering jobs and cleaning jobs.
What happened is that they are not allowed in now and the british employee doesn’t want to fill those jobs.
    That sir…is the reality.
Now companies that work in airports will be forced to increase their wages to captivate british workers or airports face being in this misery for a long time.
Its about time to be honest, a baggage handler gets paid minimum wage to work in an environment were safety needs to be always a focus, tight time schedules, unsociable hours and lots of manual labour.
Same goes for security staff, in most airports they get paid just above minimum wage, for such a responsible job.
How can you compare making sure a prohibited item doesn’t travel with the passenger to a cashier in a supermarket (no disrespect to cashiers, its a respectful job)

When a bag handler will earn 4k a month you will be complaining about how much the plane tickets cost. Where do you think their salaries come from? Let's say they'll pay the baggage handler 4K a month. Where do they get the people from? The UK has more jobs available than unemployed (look it up). You won't get people that have a good life doing nothing and make them work even if the pay is high. I think you don't understand the complexity yourself.

Covid lay off played a bigger part than Brexit in this particular factor. Brexit just increased the paperwork required for jobs and limited the amount of candidates. Airlines laid off thousands of people due to Covid and now can't be replaced due to reasons like people moving onto other things or salary expectations. You can't say Brexit 'probably' caused this at all - If Covid never happened, would the airlines laid of staff?

Fly from Glasgow to London, outbound connection to Los Angeles. BA flight out of Glasgow was 4 hours late in leaving, and even then they had offloaded 30% of the passengers because there wasn't enough crew on duty to look after everyone. Everyone who had a connection in London missed it - and it was also a sparrowfart flight, meaning some people who had business reasons to be in London were also buggered.
he replacement flight to Los Angeles from London left 45 minutes late and the seating plans given to passengers had seats that didn't exist (although everyone did get on board).
Coming home? The flight to LHR was two hours delayed, meanwhile the connecting flight from LHR to Glasgow had simply been cancelled and deleted from the BA schedule like it never existed. Even though they had booked and paid for it.

@@nigelclifford8405 the institution of the Tories is so corrupt and treasonous that not only do I believe they would turn england into an oligarchy, but they would actually encourage people to accept it and to have an adequate attitude.
Consequently most Tories wouldn't care much about public opinion or royal conventions.
When you think about it, a few years ago a lot of continental European would have come to pay their respect to the queen.
Now I suspect there will be only the most dedicated and that have the time to spare to go through all the hazzle to get paperwork done just to pay their respect, and most probably be received with the attitude the Tories are promoting.
Anyway, we all know that the Tories are in Russian pockets like most populist extreme political parties now a day, and all that pretend politic of nationalism and self sovereigntiy and rising barriers and burning bridges, well it sure never was for the good of uk citizen. Although I'll give the argument that it wasn't a good thing for European citizens neither. I still wonder who profits if everybody looses, and can only come to the conclusion that it is the ones that funded all those parties... which by my perspective makes them fundamentally treasonous. If not legally at the very least on a moral scale and rational level.
As for all those uk tourist whom thought they'd be better off if everyone was worse off... they can stay home.
The only ones I'm saddened for is the ones that have to endure such despicable attitude and have doors closed to them, because the worse of their society speak on their behalf.
Particularly when considering how much British culture actually has to offer.
