So kayak landing gear is better than a cart?

    I keep getting told that landing gear is easier to launch a kayak....I beg to differ.
    Because of the shallow rocky launch landing gear would not be convenient at all because...
    1. impossible to roll far enough into water to float the kayak and pull legs out.
    2. in this situation you would have to remove one leg at a time and then lean on the remaining leg,
    then lift the kayak to remove the last leg.
    Landing gear ONLY works well in a deep water launch with a dock PERIOD.

      You can bring it with, but I usually bring it back to the truck as I have to move it anyway. It fits in the rear tankwell nicely.

      @@BassManStrikes Ok, whatever works for each person. Most times I park a little way from the ramp and don't want to walk back to dump the wheels.

      Personally gonna get the landing gear as some of the spots I fish I'd have to cart it a few hundred yards from my truck and I don't want to have to bring it back or have something that large taking up space

    Used a cart for a year and went over to landing gear it’s 1000% easier lol I just roll it all the way into the water, paddle out a little bit, pop the wheels off and lock em in and then when I’m coming in to dock I just put the wheels on while in the the water and roll up the dock. The thing that sucks tho is the landing gear takes up some space and it’s more stuff to get caught up on.

    • @BassManStrikes
      @BassManStrikes  19 днів тому

      Have to disagree, you can't do that except on deep water launches, most of the more rustic kayak launches you would break the landing gear trying to launch it in 6 inches of water. You simply cannot do what you said in like 90% of situations not to mention landing gear makes the kayak nose heavy. But if you only launch in those mostly perfect locations and it's working for you, more power to you 😁

      @@BassManStrikes I feel ya, most of the launches in my area are normal boat ramps or sand/mud. Neither are very “rough” lol. But I have launched in some shallow water with no issues. I suppose it really depends on where you launch out from.

    You didn't show the worst part of a cart. Getting the kayak on and keeping it on for the ride down to the water.

    • @BassManStrikes
      @BassManStrikes  2 місяці тому

      Hmm the cart I use doesn't have that issue as it has center bunks that lock it to the hull. I just pull it off the truck and right onto the cart and effortlessly roll it to the water and usually don't even need to strap it. Same for loading from water, just slide it on like a little trailer.

      I'll never understand people that can't work kayak carts. I've been using them for years and never have an issue with just a single strap also. It seems like I'm in the vast minority that's smart enough to put the cart under the heaviest part of the kayak and strap it down really well and then watch where I'm pulling it. But every kayak cart video on UA-cam has a million people screaming and crying about how they can't use their kayak cart and it's constantly falling off. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

    owning the sidekicks on my slayer 12.5 ..I totally get this!! I see many leaving their locked wheels down in the water ..but no one will say the reason why. They just say oh it doesnt make a difference ...its because they are too hard to rotate when in the water due to buoyancy pressure locking them in the joints lol

      I bring it if I need to portage. Otherwise why bring it if you know the river etc and you don't need to portage a dam etc? Just to get out along the river I don't need the cart. Maybe if I was going down river and someone was picking me up but I never do that, I always go up river and then just go back to the launch site.

      Jesse,
      If the water is shallow you have to do the pickup method, but if it's deep enough, I just pull the nose of the kayak on the cart and pull it on kind of like a trailer.

      Put the cart under the kayak and strap it in while the kayak is in deep enough water to do so.
      Put it in the middle of the kayak, positioned where the straps can’t slide back.

      That works for light kayaks and if you don't have far to go. Once you start loading up gear it can get nose heavy even on kayaks like a Feel Free Lure 11 which has the wheel in the keel.
      A good cart is one of the best investments you can make for a kayak :-)

      Just as easy, you set the cart next the kayak at a angle pick up the back and pivot it on. if the water is deep enough you can slide it right on same as I slid it off.
      it's basically like a mini trailer, and it does fit in the rear tank well so you can bring it with you, or if you have to move your vehicle anyways just bring it back to truck or car etc.

      @@BassManStrikesI put the cart under the kayak while it’s in the water so there’s no lifting at all.
      Put the cam strap on, and walk it back, gravity will center the cart pretty well, and tighten it down.

      @@BassManStrikes This only works if you have a small ultralightweight kayak like yourself. Try this with a 16ft modular 3 piece 3 person trimaran kayak, with 3 pedal drives, sail, etc. You can barely lift it onto a cart once the pieces are all together, not to mention the pressure crushes and twists the cart making it impossible to pull properly.

      It's a maker pipe cart I built from a kit, just google maker pipe kayak cart. I modified it with 2 inch center PVC bunks that lock it to the Slayer Max or Titan X hull.
      I originally built one from the kit and then made a 2nd version using 1 inch aluminium pipe and TinkTube Fittings as they work better with the 1 inch aluminum.
      I went thru a sidekick and a boondox groovy and broke each them LOL
      I also modifed a Vevor Kayak Cart with center bunks and that works ok as well but it's not as wide as the maker pipe cart. I have more videos on this just search my channel for them.

    It is easier. You literally push the yak into the water step on pull the landing gear up and go on about your day. Instead of pulling the wheels out from under and carrying them to the truck. Not like a cart is that much harder to use but saying landing gear isnt easier is just your opinion. Id have been setting down ready to go by the time you were tugging your cart out. Now half a min wouldnt matter to me normally and for the price difference id probably even recommend a cart. But landing gear is faster taking in and taking out. It is what it is. Literally just put them down paddle to shore step off pull to truck theres no pulling up on cart and strapping it down. I literally have my yak loaded and rods up by the time my buddy is strapping his down. Now literally its like a 2 min difference. Isnt that huge at the end of the day and landing gear is expensive i say get $50 cart put the rest into a new rod. But landing gear is easier and faster.however slight it may be.

    • @BassManStrikes
      @BassManStrikes  Місяць тому

      You understand you don't have to bring it back to the vehicle. That's just how I do it when I have to move the truck anyway.
      I don't pull the cart from under. I slide the kayak off like a trailer because the cart has center bunks.
      I went thru two sets of landing gear, and this cart is easier it's not just my opinion.
      For one, it's perfectly balanced, which makes moving it long distances super easy, even fully loaded with propel drive, batteries, and all other gear.
      2ndly I can adjust the position of the cart by sliding it to the front or rear to make loading into a truck or trailer easier .
      Landing gear is horrible at anything other than perfectly smooth deep water launches. If the launch is shallow and muddy you are pretty much lifting your kayak near shore on each side and then dragging it in...if the landing gear encounters any small obstacles it does a springing action which is detrimental.
      So in the end, you are just basing your whole argument on your opinion which is exactly what you accused me of doing ....
