The instructions here focus on those who have multiple disk shelves. Do you have any resources on the cabling for a single disk shelf to a single controller? Thanks!
We have a power shutdown activity for maintenance in our data centers.... please let us know what should be the sequence for powering down and powering up 7mode storage system with 4 external disk shelves....
Performing a System Power Up The power up procedure must be performed in the following order: 1. Switches (network/FC/storage) 2. Disk shelves 3. Controllers
1.) How do we connect these to a PC designed to behave as a server? What kind of PCI-e interface do we need to interact with the DS4246? 2.) How does Unraid interact with DS4246 (I can only find FreeNAS guides)?
I was able to setup a DS14MK2 shelf with 2x FC-ATX connected to my Dell PowerEdge Server with a Qlogic dual port 4gb FC card installed. Will I be able to setup a similar connection with a DS2246 shelf? If so, any suggestion on the kind of QSFP port controller I will need for my server?
Kabiyesi Agbaiye You will need to use a SAS controller with external connectors as the DS2246 are not Fibre Channel shelves. Look for LSI SAS controllers with 4 or 8 external ports. Not sure if PERC controllers will support NetApp drives with NetApp drive firmware.
From what i know ar least the 4346 should also work with 18TB sata drives, isn‘t it?

Great video, thank you, more like this. This has given me a very good understanding of DS, I'm new in storage and NetApp in particular
In the market, You and me are the only independent trainers for storage technologies.
Good to hear from you, and wishing you best of luck with the training. Thanks, Neil

Netapp is refusing to allow me to register, and won't let me download ontap 9. no Irish need apply.
Is it possible to daisy chain 50 shelves 4246? What the heck is stack 2 ? I have 8040 dual controller
What if you only have one shelf(one stack)? Do you need to connect each controller to each shelf module?
yeah.. cant find this anywhere. i think you daisychain to it self????

These are NetApp disk shelves, you connect them to NetApp controllers.
