- Shard the Mecha, the original Metal Sonic, finds himself face to face with perhaps the deadliest rendition of Metal Sonic to date. When the two of them face off, Shard may have to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect everyone that he cares about.

I love Shard as much as the next guy, but what about Metal? Metal is basically still Eggman's slave and he can't do anything about it. The first thing he did was go against his creator's orders until that reboot thing kicked in. Like, Metal has feelings and it's obvious that he wants to be more than some killing machine. Considering he replayed what Shadow said to him. Metal's case is just really depressing and Shard knows what that is like. I honestly think Shard feels really bad that he has to do this to his brother. Considering he LITERALLY says: "And I blame Eggman for making me do this!". Honestly, Metal deserves better than Eggdick over here.

Literally this video was the first I'd ever seen of him outside a custom figure video back when I was 10
Now Imagine if Shard med Neo. They are both similar as metal sonics who rebelled against eggman, but both went in different directions. One became a good guy. While the other became a villain, and took over the empire.

This is the saddest of the Sonic universe comics for two reasons, in my opinion
1: The fact that, because of the genisis wave, this is the last appearence of Shard. He was a really cool character to watch develop in the comics, and I liked how he went from 'Priority 1 - Hedgehog' to saving new mobotropolis and attempting to help save the echidnas and helping defeat the Krudzu. I wish in the games Metal could have a character arc like shard
2: Metal Sonic not getting any choice in if he does or doesn't want freedom. Before Eggman does that soft reboot thing, you see that he is argumentative, just like in game canon, but Eggman robs him of the choice. In a way, it's actually Eggman's fault that Metal got near destroyed this time, as shard was forced to do this through Eggman not letting Metal have a choice. In the games, he is practically always rebellious, and Sonic Heroes portrayed him as a fleshed out character, and I would have loved to see something similar, but they did this instead

Seeing as we’ve got a fresh Sonic comic with the IDW series, I’d really like to see them take another stab at writing a character like Shard. He had a lot of missed potential.
I love this comic episode so much I feel like I gotta rewatch it. I also love the characteristics between Metal Sonic and Shard.

so for anyone wondering or lamenting the reboot, the archie sonic pre genesis wave is being unofficially continued, shard was fixed and fully repaired, he and nicole might be a thing not sure yet

+XboxTheHedgehog Actually it was not confirmed that Shard was removed from the Archieverse. He, along with the SFF *excluding Elias*, are marked as "Fate unknown" along with Scourge. Plus, there are two rogue Metal Sonic; Captain Metal and Neo Metal Sonic, so Shard got to be around there, right?

Yeah, Ken didn't manage to take all because a few reasons. On Scourge's case, because Ian created Super Scourge so Scourge is part owned by Ken and part owned by Ian. That's why Scourge gain the CGI model of himself.
+Axle Jones Also wasn't Shard a creation of Ian Flynn anyway? I know he's the continuation of the first Metal Sonic and the 'change of heart' that help made Shard who he was was probably written by Ken Penders but I still don't see how that's enough for Ken to have any claim on Shard. But then again, I don't know how the copy write nonsense works so.. *shrugs*
Despite Ken Pender taken all the characters, SEGA stated that Ken will not began his own story unless he agree to begin the story in one of any Sonic Game adaption. That's what I heard and I could be wrong but, despite Ken Pender taken all characters he created, SEGA still own him ironically.

It's a shame IDW will never have such great characterization and art. But we can still go back to the world's most way past cool comic.
I hate IDW metal sonic with a burning passion, how they managed to take my favorite sonic character and bastardise him so badly is beyond me, seeing neo metal sonic being eggman's henchman fills me with utter rage, i will never understand a quality downgrade from archie and IDW, was Flynn's archie run perfect? No, but it was still pretty darn good mostly, i guess flynn might have had help from the editors, wich would explain how Flynn went from a terrible writer (other M) to good writer, only to become a bad writer once again
@@shardsoftime0952 I don't think it was the editors that made his Archie run so great. They would never have done the things he did. It was great because he was given freedom and a huge, unique world. But at this point, it feels like he's doing this for the money, because he knows fans (who didn't even read Archie), will go crazy over his name. But having his name can't save something. IDW itself feels like outside of a few stories, the people behind it are just there for a check. The 2 characters I like are Silver and Blaze.

@@shardsoftime0952 I really wish we could figure out why IDW is so bad and Archie was amazing. I feel like part of it is that he just isn't putting as much effort into it, but that doesn't explain Other M. Sure, it started in 1999 when he didn't know what he was doing, but he finished it in 2006, when he started with Archie.

I heard rumors the Reboot was happening one way or another but because of Ken Pender's lawsuit, not only did it trigger ahead of schedule but Sega step in and restricted a lot of what can be done. So yeah... this all sucks and we lost a pretty good character in the process...

This is just one more reason that villains are superior. Has anyone noticed that, throughout history, most villains were defeated either by luck, or by some stupid traumatic event that "super-powered" the hero by pissing them off or something? Plus, most villains have good intentions! Rarely is the villain doing something that could harm everything. If you ask me, heroes are nothing more than terrorists that thrive off the "fact" that heroes ALWAYS win. What would happen to them, then, if that blanket of cover were to disappear? What would they become? This is why villains are superior and the death of one of these beloved heroes proves it.
