Protecting freshwater stocks in the west of the Netherlands

A number of activities will be carried out in the coming period for the “Optimization Brielse Meer” project. These are necessary to ensure that freshwater users in the area receive it, both now and in the future. Various external causes mean that it is necessary to make adjustments when the intake of freshwater via the Bernisse for the Brielse Meer becomes problematic. For example, the Nieuwe Waterweg has been deepened, we are dealing with increasingly extreme weather due to climate change and in extreme circumstances the water in, for example, the Oude Maas and the Spui can become saltier.
