Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference:
    0:00 - Intro
    1. 0:15 {When Should I NOT Take Communion?} When should a believer NOT take communion? Is finding myself repenting of the same sin over and over and having an ongoing struggle with the same sin a reason not to?
    2. 18:56 {Can A False Prophet Glorify God?} My parents sit under a pastor who claims to have a prophecy from God almost weekly. He preaches in Jesus’ name and glorifies God, but his prophecies are always totally wrong or incredibly vague. Can a man who glorifies God also prophesy falsely?
    3. 24:09 {Christ & H.S. In Us = Modalism?} At the end of Colossians, it talks about Christ in us, and in Galatians, it talks about the Spirit of His son in our hearts crying out “Abba, Father.” That sounds like the Holy Spirit, but is it Modalism to call Christ in you the Holy Spirit?
    4. 27:57 {Animal Sacrifices in Millen. Kingdom?} Why will there be animal sacrifices in the Millennial Kingdom?
    5. 35:25 {Should Slaves have Run Away from Masters?} In light of Ephesians 6:5-8 and Colossians 3: 22-23, was it wrong for African slaves to run away from their masters?
    6. 42:48 {Do Our Prayers Need to be Specific?} People have been saying with increasing frequency, "Make your prayers specific.” I’m wondering why I keep hearing this lately. Is this biblical?
    7. 46:40 {Did Jesus Have a Sin Nature?} Was Jesus the biological son of Mary? If so, how did He not inherit a sin nature?
    8. 50:49 {Does Heaven Last for Eternity?} Do we live in Heaven for eternity, or will it be a finite time period (Isaiah 65: 20)?
    9. 54:50 {Share Our Burdens?} Galatians 6:2 says to carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ, but verse 5 says that each person should carry their own load. Should we share our burdens or carry our own?
    10. 59:13 {Reject the Church = Reject Christianity?} If I reject the Church as an institution, do I automatically reject the Christian faith?
    11. 1:02:00 {Committed Relationships as Good as Marriage?} How would you answer claims that “committed sexual relationships” have everything good that a marriage has? What’s the essence of marriage that withstands infertility/impotence/distance, etc.?
    12. 1:06:09 {Recovering from Works Based Thinking} I left the Hebrew Israelite movement 3 years ago, and since then, I’ve been struggling with my walk. I know we have God’s grace, but I was so used to doing works that I feel lost now. Any suggestions?
    13. 1:11:05 {Laws, Islam & Executing Apostates} Looking at Deuteronomy 13:6-10, is the apostasy law similar to Muslims? And is it inherently immoral for an apostate to be put to death because of their beliefs, according to the Old Testament?
    14. 1:16:48 {Was Jesus’ Body Broken For Us?} What are your thoughts on when people say “This is the body of Christ, broken for you.” To me, this is not accurate, as Jesus was not “broken” for us (no bones broken like the Passover lamb).
    15. 1:18:54 {Are Non-Believers Always Wrong?{ Some Christians act like non-believers are inherently untrustworthy or dishonest, like they shouldn't be taken seriously. This feels really wrong. Can you please help me find biblical teaching on this?
    16. 1:23:01 {Our Bodies during the Millennial Reign} What kind of body will each "group" of people have during the Millennial Reign? I know the previously dead will receive knew bodies, and those that die in God during the Tribulation will get new bodies.
    17. 1:24:17 {The “Prize” in Philippians} What is the prize of the upward call" in Philippians 3: 14?
    18. 1:27:56 {Raising Children w/Unbelieving Family} Is it wrong that I don’t want to raise my son around my unbelieving family members? They can even be hostile to the faith. I even have a transgender niece, and my wife and I don’t want our son around that.
    19. 1:30:49 {Praising the Holy Spirit?} A friend said that Scripture never calls us to praise the Holy Spirit despite numerous worship songs and the Doxology saying otherwise. Is he wrong? Should we only worship the Father and the Son?
    20. 1:33:36 {The Bible Harmonized w/Psychology?} How do we harmonize the Bible and psychology? I have some leaders that try to diagnose people’s sin through the lens of psychology and not Scripture (things like compulsive lying, laziness, etc.).

That first answer was incredibly powerful. I'm an ex-Mormon, and have frequently felt like taking communion was a self appointed "temple recommend interview." Your reminder that NONE of us come before God based on our righteousness nor do we remain there based on our own efforts was so uplifting. Thank you, Mike.

Don't the Mormons have some substitute for communion? I recall that they had temples, sometimes with a figure like Lucifer on top.... Mmh... The 'light carrier". I smell a rat there... Lucifer anyone? Well, I can think that it is very confusing for ex-Mormons to 'start over'... But I can confirm that it is also for most Christians like that. Those that had a Christian upbringing have to realize that it isn't the real deal, but needs to be crucified with Christ so the truth can resurrect from it.

Thank you for your conversation on communion. I think many of us are taught wrongly about it and therefore feel as the questioner does, that we shouldn’t take communion. It helps to understand the context of the situation in Corinth. I will approach communion now with a joy to be part of the body of Christ, that we’re all celebrating Christ together rather than the sad somberness of the fact that I’ll never be righteous enough. With this understanding, it takes the focus off of me and gets it back on Christ where it’s supposed to be. Praise be to God!

Agreed! A pastor once taught this in a very judgemental manner and I spent many months worrying if I was doomed to condemnation because I took communion, despite not being holy enough. So grateful we stand in the righteousness of Christ Jesus and not our own. 🕊️

You are so right in thinking that many of you are taught wrongly about Communion. Trust me when I tell you that Winger did nothing to correct any of those wrong teachings. Why do Protestants want to celebrate Communion anyway? Isn't it just another needless ritual that does nothing for the believer? All Protestants, Winger included really miss the mark on the doctrine of Communion. Jesus is the New Passover of the New Covenant. Which means that the New Passover must be greater than the Old Passover of the Old Covenant. The Lamb of the Old Passover had to be eaten in order for the first born sons to be spared death. This prefigures the Lamb of the New Covenant Passover, who is Jesus Christ. When we are Baptized or Born Again, we become first born sons of God - spiritually. In order for the first born sons of the New Covenant to be spared a spiritual death and to live life eternal, then the Lamb of the New Passover must be eaten. This is typology.
Jesus said, "I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh......UNLESS you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; 54 he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread which came down from heaven, not such as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live for ever.”
Protestants never consider the bread and juice of their communion to be the Lamb of God - the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Christ is the sacrificed Lamb of God upon the Altar of the Cross. The Cup of His Blood - the Blood of the Lamb - is the sign of the New Covenant just as the blood of the lamb on the doorposts was a sign of the Old Covenant Passover: "The blood shall be a sign for you, upon the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague shall fall upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt." (Ex. 12:13) And Jesus said, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood..." Only the first born sons who partake of the New Passover meal will be spared from spiritual death. Plain old bread and juice won't do it my friend.
Eating a piece of bread and drinking a sip of juice in Protestant communion is not partaking of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. For this a Priest is required. I hope that you will pray about all of this. God bless.

@@purgatorean thank you for your lengthy response. I don’t trust any Catholic teachings. When I hear the priest say that only Catholics can partake of communion and only as long as they have gone to church at least once this month and confession sometime in the last year, something tells me that’s wrong. We are too consistently repentant of our sins, but one to another so that others may pray for us, not so some guy in a booth can tell me how many blasphemous Hail Mary’s to say.
I will always trust Mike Winger over a Catholic when it comes to theology and biblical thinking. I don’t agree with him on everything (I’m a Calvinist) but Mike is a blessing to the online Christian community.
If you care to learn more about your heretical Catholic faith, look up Anthony Roger’s most recent live video. He spent several hours explaining to Muslims why Catholicism was wrong.
And by the way, there’s no such thing as purgatory. Everybody will die with unconfessed sin, but if your are covered in the blood of Christ, you will be judged as righteous. Nobody will can or will be perfect enough to get into heaven. Only Christ and he is our propitiation.

So, given you get the conviction to make right with Person X in your pre-communal self-examination, you go to that person instead and offer peace (or whatever is missing in that affair). However, the result of that attempt is not in your hands, and your conscience does not depend to their response. Just writing this to clarify: If the reconciliation is no longer being hindered from your side, return to the altar in good faith.

Mike I just want to thank you for your very clear and thoughtful teachings. One example: Few teachers highlight the Bible’s teaching of sin while managing to balance the seriousness of sin without making the listener feel condemned. Whenever I hear you teach on sin, I am once again reminded how serious it is, and how much I need deliverance from it, yet you also never fail to remind me that we are never condemned under Christ and that God always wishes for us to accept his offer of forgiveness.

Very much appreciate your answer on communion, Brother Mike. I learned from Dr. Gordon Fee (Bible translator and a professor of New Testament studies) that what was going on at the Corinthian church regarding the Lord's supper was that some of them were getting drunk and/or eating all the food. So there was gluttony and drunkenness going on at their love feasts (communion) which, obviously, was greatly dishonoring to the Lord. By "exam yourselves" Paul didn't mean "make sure there isn't any sin in your life" rather he meant (basically) "make sure you're taking the Lord's supper in a worthy manner; not guzzling all the wine and glorking down all the food so that no one else gets anything to eat".
Man, if I had known this as a young believer it would have saved me a cargo ship load of stress. lol The Lord bless the all of yas!

I'm getting so much from your 20 questions, but you're probably also planting seeds in him to grow in Christ just like when I would hear Charles Stanley in the background at my parents house when I was his age. The sound of Pastor Stanley's voice always brings my back home and gives me peace in his teachings as an adult. I wonder if my son will watch you in his adult years and find the same. I hope so. I do know this, he loves your shirts. 🙂

It's hard to comprehend on this side of heaven. Every day, every MINUTE, that passes is one less that we have before we die, and we can never get it back. There will be no such urgency in heaven.

As a Baptist he has a symbolic sense of the Eucharist and that's false. Paul gave his warning bc it's real. You can't get sick or die from a symbol. Christ NEVER said it was symbolic or that it represents his body and blood. He said it WAS his body which makes sense if you blaspheme his body then yes you damn yourself.

Had to repent of selfishness and hoped that to be okay to turn around and take communion that same service. Our pastor takes it seriously and gives pause for us to pray and go to the altar if needed prior to partaking. He tells us that it is on us whether or not we and our already saved and baptized children should partake. So there is definitely an awareness of the solemn time it is as believers.

It’s really easy to google scriptures about what your feeling and bend them to current circumstances so I have a real appreciation for the way you are careful with the context.

Hi Mike / Mike's team. Question 1 definitely resonates with me. Many times I've not taken part in the communion because I have been a bit uncertain about what this passage means. I've been thinking a bit about me not being worthy at all. Also it hasn't been a big struggle with sin for me that has stopped me, but more that I see there's something here I don't understand and I really don't wanna do it the wrong way and instead I put it in a "box" together with all the other things I ask for clarity on when reading the bible.
After I now got some clarity on it, I realize it's the pick and choose and mixup bible verses culture I grew up in that is playing tricks on my mind. I have been uncertain what it means because I didn't properly read the context and understood it. One could read "unworthy manner", and then let that color the rest of the verses there. Or one could read on and learn what this unworthy manner really is.
Even tho english definitely isn't my first language I do a lot of the bible study in english. What confused me for the longest time (in english bible) was the part that says "Discerning the body". I think subconsciously I've been thinking I don't really know what that means and I've just let the "unworthy manner" color the rest. Like, I totally missed it. And when I go to my Norwegian bible, it kinda made a bit more sense to me what discerning the body actually means.
Thank you very much for your efforts. Your ministry has been a huge blessing. There's nobody here (i mean around me locally) that is even remotely teaching reading the bible in context. It has brought so much clarity to read it properly and understand it properly - in ways I didn't think was possible before. And it also made studying the bible exciting for the first time in almost 40 years. Again thank you. And I love the t-shirt. Angry sun. :)

Thank you for unfolding the truth of communion… I may have to watch that and hear it again!
Had to stop the replay and mention Q-2 and how important it is to recognize the ‘style’ of a church doesn’t necessarily make it ‘spiritual’ or godly. I agree- I’ve seen the generational ways of performing (for lack of a better term) in the way that’s expected over time and becomes entrenched in a denomination whose people actually BELIEVE that’s the way it’s supposed to be!- yet when the truth is not being spoken or taught, it’s just a form… a stage where people perform. I have to guard against falling into a sort of complacency that this is just the way we do ‘church’ and I play my part by performing acceptably. Don’t know if I’m wording this very well, but wanted to say I appreciate the way you addressed the pastor in error. Thank you, Mike.

In my teens as a new Christian, I found it so easy to share my burdens with Christian brothers and sisters, and usually they were more than willing to offer prayer and encouragement. Now more than two decades later, I'm finding this to be less of the case. As a more mature Christian and person in general, I've learned that when they offer their help, it's not usually genuine, but just common courtesy.
My question is, does this usually happen because as we get older we have more responsibilities and less time for others? Or is this more of a reflection of the times we're living in?

I find, in my life, that all the accumulated let downs and hurts make me less likely to share or ask for help. Also, at least in the US, we are pretty individualistic and thus think we should handle most things by ourselves, or maybe with family. And a lot of pastors here don't mention or stress the "bodiness" of the church. And last but not least... selfishness! I think "Oh no, so and so is going to dump a big issue on me, if I share one with her. That will be difficult and take a lot of time, care and energy. Therefore I will not share my problem." Our church has a prayer request email send-out, so we pray, but I don't know how much further other people respond. (I'm the wife of the name on the account. I don't know how to add a new account, or find if I already have one) 😊

    • @sameash3153
      @sameash3153 Рік тому

Well, yes and no, "this" refers to the blood, not the cup. Because they believe the wine is the literal blood of Christ, and christ said his blood was the new covenant, it then follows that they believe the wine "becomes" a symbol of the new covenant through literal transformation of wine into blood

    • @Maria_O
      @Maria_O Рік тому

@@sameash3153 When they say this, they mean the blood in the cup. They don't believe it's a symbol. They believe it transforms into the actual blood of Christ.

      @sameash3153 Рік тому

@Maria_O I said that in my comment. The wine literally transforms into the blood. But Pastor Mike was talking about the wine becoming the new covenant, and there, the blood is "a sign of the new covenant", as it is referred to in the liturgy. So it's like this:
Wine -> blood (literal/bodily) -> new covenant (by faith). They would say the wine is blood, but they would not say it is the new covenant, they would say it is a sign of the new covenant, and that the sign is materially the actual blood of christ (as opposed to wine)

She spent 20 years married to a monster, my childhood was tumultuous and hard. I hated God, because how on earth could that be ok? How could my abusive father who claimed to be a Christian be saved ? RE QUESTION 7 (Sin Nature)
The idea that anyone is born with a sin nature is unbiblical. The early church believed infants were born innocent. It was only after infant baptism was introduced that beliefs such as an inherited sin nature came about and the doctrine of Original Sin was invented to support the practice.
Before Augustine, the only early church writers claiming infants were born in an inherited sinful state were Cyprian of Carthage and Augustine’s contemporaries, Ambrose of Milan and Jerome. What these four had in common is that they all relied on the same faulty Latin translations of Romans 5:12, Psalm 51:5, Job 14:4-5. Against these four, Aristeides of Athens, the writer of the _Epistle of Barnabas,_ Hermas of Rome, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Gregory of Nazianzus, Gregory of Nyssa, John Chrysostom and the writer of the _Apostolic Constitutions_ all viewed infants as being born innocent.
The doctrine of Original Sin is a plain contradiction of Ecclesiastes 7:29. What Scripture clearly shows is that human sinfulness arises during one’s youth (Genesis 8:21; Jeremiah 3:25) and that children must reach a certain level of maturity before they are able to make moral choices between good and evil (Isaiah 7:15-16). Furthermore, since the human spirit is not inherited from one’s parents but is given to each person individually by God (Ecclesiastes 12:7; Hebrews 12:9), it is unreasonable to suppose it is any less pure at conception than the source from whence it comes.

Mike Winger thank you for your explanation (point 1 when should a Christian not receive communion) of the issue from a reformed stance.
A comment on your statement on the Catholic position. The refusal of communion to a public figure is where their public statements and actions are contrary to the teaching of the RC Church, and so cause scandal the Body of Christ. Similar actions have occurred in south Italy where public members of the mafia received Holy Communion.
With ordinary people, though they may be known to have committed a mortal sin, it’s possible that theyhave received the sacrament of reconciliation and so may receive Holy Communion and so should be given communion. If the reality is that they are in a state of sin, by receiving communion they will pour additional judgment on themselves.
