That Community Manager even blocked people with legitimate concerns about their engine and asked for fixes or update to some of its features. She's an insufferable monster and will lead an extremely sad and lonely life.
It's been demonstrated at this point that she is also causing the project to lose revenue. Even if the developer doesn't care that she's alienating the community, you would think that he would take notice once he began to lose cash.
I use godot, and I like it alot. I believe that this is a minority in the community, cause I feel like most people just use the engine and don't actually pay attention to what is happening in the discord and social medias. I tried pushing back on this awhile ago in the discord, when they wanted to change the icon to rainbow for pride month. I tried to make them see that doing so was just going to make people who are LGBT see Godot as another pandering corpo group. me and others were insulted and ignored, some outright banned. afterwards ""just for pride month" turned into a permanent change to the icon along with other things. I honestly hope they will just sweep those people under the rug, bring back the OG icons for the different social medias, and never repeat this mistake again.

I can confirm the community discord server is pretty woke Don't worry guys, petty political fights are only in the realm of community management. Devs are only concerned with petty coding fights. Godot forever! ✊
Thanks for sharing that. It is unfortunate the community manager and moderators are spreading this negative reputation. From my understanding, the actual Godot Devs are solely focused on making a good engine.
Didn't some devs also get blocked from the git depository, as well? That might just be a rumor, but given that they are also blocking patreon supporter I don't think it's impossible. This seems to be doing actual damage to the project. Which is really sad. I was thinking of starting to learn Godot, but I'll probably wait until this all blows over and asses the state of the project then.
@@Hammer1987 Haven't heard of that. Arguments between code contributors are more the like of stack overflow arguments. Yes, sometimes it causes issues, but that's every big open source project ever. It's that, or the evil corporation.

@@catto-from-heaven That's why it's important to leave political leaning or belief in professional environment. Because there's always going to be clash no matter what side you are leaning. There's going to be mix bag in every community. And since Godot is open source and don't own by anyone, you don't have to think about fee or being restricted by what they tell you. Or if you are in the middle of development, finish that game and move onto another engine if you really hate it. There's no cost or fee so no loss there unlike in case with unity.
I really don't wanna switch, it felt so good to find out about GODOT 2 years ago, when I tried to unsuccessfully learn Unity. GODOT seemed a lot simpler and the tutorials in their documentation are really good! Also the fact that GODOT is so light-weight, I don't wanna go through the installation process of Unity again, or worry about their plans (which I do for some reason even though I wouldn't ever break the limits of the free plan lol). But if the project really does die, I'll see a fork to go to, as long as the original support and good devs are there, like what happened in the PolyMC situation (though in that situation the devs were banned from the project). Some people may also be relieved to learn that there are many more FOSS game engines out there! And surprisingly good list of them can be found on the Jolt Physics engine's "a list of projects that use Jolt Physics" Edit: forgot to add: While I was looking up when Unity thought of the runtime fee, I found out they are planning for generative AI tools in Unity 6. That is gonna turn away some people.
Well same, when I'm new in game engine, i download unity first but unity's app is not really good at handling my shitty internet so i found godot. I have in mind my best game and now im scared to publish something from godot😢. I did made games in unreal and unity but godot is my main game engine, maybe i should try another game engine? If you guys have any rec please let me know
the only time that forks succeed is if the former team engages in right-wing or borderline fascist behavior, and the fork adopts a more left-leaning or centrist view. Since that isn't what's going on in godot, but rather some childish drama by irrelevant people, the project won't die and redot will stay in obscurity.
@@okie9025 Yeah, I remember the PolyMC situation, which went way worse for them and allowed the fork Prism Launcher to succeed. In short: A lead developer kicked everyone out over politics, and those people then build Prism Launcher. So while I hope Redot can succeed and get support like Godot, the situation hasn't been as bad as that, even with the few GH bans that happened.
As someone who's been developing in the Godot Engine for 3 years now, this greatly saddened me and yes I am looking to migrate. I thought I was safe during the Unity fiasco, but then it also landed here. I am not leaving because the game engine itself was compromised, although its future versions might be considering their lead developer has driven away contributors who didn't align with their ideology. I'm leaving because the owner of Godot himself supported and approved the hiring and the keeping of the CM and other mods. They all have that activist attitude and they affect the social spaces of Godot. The Godot community is also dividing, because those woke moderators aren't alone. There's legitimately a mob of people who support them despite seeing the way they behave such as using the 'n' word. They are on a banning streak as we speak, not just Twitter / X, but Discord and Reddit as well. I'm staying to complete some projects but without a community I can interact with I can't stay for long. I am heartbroken. Goodbye Godot, one if the greatest potential FOSS software
Why would you migrate? Did this magically make the engine stop working properly? This makes no sense. You can't really call it "the greatest FOSS" software if you don't even acknowledge it as FOSS.
@@Dharengoyou obviously did not read my entire comment. Anyways, after cooling down and tried to look for alternatives. I might not be migrating after all or at least not yet. @@Dharengo What you did not understand was that I considered migrating not because the engine was compromised but because there was no community to interact with. However that's been settled for me. I really want to go camping, havent done it in a while. I used to be a camper at a camp that was made for people with ventilators, soon im going back as a councilor. As for camping by myself, its something ive been wanting to do for a while.
Speaking of camping. Does anyone follow Steve Wallis and his stealth camping? He camps one or two nights in weird places you're not really supposed to be camping. Like the center of a roundabout, behind a highway sign, under a bridge, alongside a highway forest, or the forest behind the Home Depot. Some people say it's cosplaying homelessness, but I think it's good, relaxing UA-cam entertainment.
Sungrand, I have to say that truly you are among the most genuine creators on this platform. UA-cam has been a part of my life for SO long. Remember YT 2008, as a young boy it entirely replaced TV for me. A wonderful place where I could find a wealth of content specific to things that I enjoyed. Compounded by the fact I have a very very long list of things I "fixate" on, YT was a fantastic place. The creators back then were so, how could one put it, homely? Yeah, they had that feeling of being someone just flipping the camera on and letting us into their lives. No monetary agenda, no grand design, just a desire to share with the world a part of theirs. UA-cam has obviously changed dramatically since then, for the many reasons there are, it no longer provides that enchanting feeling. At this point UA-cam feels like the forward lines of an isochronal cycle of total internet drama warfare, between armies of internet fans that invade and weaponize the algorithm against other creators. I suppose it provides for a sort of strange, schadenfreude that people will always enjoy, but I find it temporary and highly superficial. I miss the old days. You remind me of the old days. I entirely agree with what you state here as well. I noticed UA-cam becoming like this years ago, and decided I would-
-filter out the nonsense by making an account that suited a very specific and strong interest of mine. Backpacking. Been at it for over a decade, but only recently realized that I too could utilize the algorithm to my benefit lol. Honestly its a liberating feeling not being inundated with internet drama on UA-cam, Honestly I could be sacrificing my algorithm a little bit here just by leaving this comment, but that's okay bahaha, because I entirely agree with Sungrand and I would like to emphasize to anyone reading this, what he says is entirely true. Get out there, if you're on the fence, I implore you to understand that when you conquer your first night outdoors (which is much easier and chill than you think), the entire world seems to open up to you. No offense ya'll but quite literally touch grass, you will be happier than you even knew you could be. :)
Thank god people didn't understand what MIT license is so we can just chill and have fun when they're realized they're going to get forked by FOSS lmao.
This is purely coincidental, but I've been playing some Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations, and there's a character in it called Godot. He likes coffee and has this really confident yet chill personality, a jazzy theme, and he thinks very rationally. Anyway, you kind of reminded me of him, with how you were able to deliver a savage roast while remaining cool and collected. About camping, I went with my parents a lot of times growing up. I keep good memories of it, and even though I stay inside a lot these days to play video games, I think having experienced camping so much growing up was a lot more important than I gave it credit for. It probably made me into a more grounded person.
That's so great. It's awesome you were able to share those experiences with your parents. Thanks for sharing that bit about Ace Attorney. I'll look up the character and see what he looks like.

I’m sticking with Godot, as I like actually owning what I create, but I do hope that this situation gets resolved.
I really like open source so even if Unity will truly value their customers now I won't even touch it because it's not open source. The good thing about Godot being open source is that if the project eventually implodes then at least it could be forked. It's just a PR disaster for them and I hope they can recover from this. It's a shame how a ballistic 0.0001% of the community can do irreparable damage like this, not only to Godot but also to the marginalized people they claim to support.
I like the Godot engine. It’s what I’ve been studying the past 6 months. This is just one person going on a power trip and pushing their own agenda. And let me be clear, I don’t care whatever you are or whoever you are. You live your life and if you never harm or harass others then you’re good in my book.
the difference is that the most important part of unity was compromised in their drama, whereas in godot basically nothing happened with the engine itself. Its the difference between a plane having a giant hole cut in the side so the company can save money VS a wooden chair having a tiny insignificant piece chip off.
Enjoy your camping. I'm going to quote one of my favorite movies now. And I think the context matters within this situation. "I'm tired boss, I'm tired of people being so nasty to each other"

Unreal is bloated so if you are not aiming to make games for console or PC, you should stay the hell away from it. Unity and Godot are still more indie-friendly even when their management/community managers are full of brain-rot people.
The excuse of"These are not the views of the ceo/owners/founders" Does not play well when in every one of these situations it is the top brass who is responsible for how their product is handled/represented. If they are not willing to cut off the rotten fruit that is dragging the platforms name down then they are 100% responsible for the platforms failing.
I think Yuji Horii's comments are more important to focus on honestly. I also believe that every major former and current game dev (who is against censorship of course) that does have access to contacting Square should do so now, because his comments show it's not too late to save Dragon Quest from being censored or changed negatively. In Japan English speaking voices of fans are not generally heard, and the studio needs to be told that actual fans of the series in America and other countries, ones dating back to the NES days do not want these changes, and many of us who would have bought the game are now abstaining because of such practices. This is important, because his comments give us a way to approach Japanese studios and let them know that actual gamers and long-time costumers do not want this.
well said. "Never wrestle with a pig. You just get dirty and the pig enjoys it." I also appreciate the comment about not fighting kids. Unfortunately as the pendulum swings the other direction some people who have invested alot in behaving this way are going to face unfortunate(for them) consequences. The best part about it is that the community manager could have just made their post and then left it. If they didn't start blocking anyone who appeared to not be on board 100% and instead just left it as it was nothing would have come of this.

That Community Manager even blocked people with legitimate concerns about their engine and asked for fixes or update to some of its features.
She's an insufferable monster and will lead an extremely sad and lonely life.
I hope Godot can employ a new community manager who is better suited toward building the brand in a healthy and positive way.
No life is sad or lonely when you have cats and wine boxes. 😂
@@sharpiefps7630 But the cats, why must they suffer her existence? 😿

Thanks for sharing that. It is unfortunate the community manager and moderators are spreading this negative reputation. From my understanding, the actual Godot Devs are solely focused on making a good engine.
And we always have forks just in case! Redot FTW.
Didn't some devs also get blocked from the git depository, as well?
That might just be a rumor, but given that they are also blocking patreon supporter I don't think it's impossible.

You don't really need to go by their rule since Godot is not owned by them. It's just community manager that suck ass. You can fork them and use them at your own if you don't like the change unlike unity or unreal.
A small group of devs have already forked it, I know others have too, but the bigger fork appears to be Redot Engine!
@@chaosfleabag9209 That's good to hear. It's just stupid to put those tweets and hurting the brand. I feel like every community managers in west are becoming like this.
@@Shinesart Agreed
As a father, you have to explain children why they are wrong, or then will never learn.
And surprisingly good list of them can be found on the Jolt Physics engine's "a list of projects that use Jolt Physics"
Edit: forgot to add: While I was looking up when Unity thought of the runtime fee, I found out they are planning for generative AI tools in Unity 6. That is gonna turn away some people.
Well same, when I'm new in game engine, i download unity first but unity's app is not really good at handling my shitty internet so i found godot. Since then i really really love godot i think its almos 4 or 5 year since i use godot, it is lightweight, the ui is so good, and easy to use.

Anyways, after cooling down and tried to look for alternatives. I might not be migrating after all or at least not yet. Being MIT open source kinda helps it.
But then I'll be treading a path where I mention Godot in my projects as minimally as possible and not supporting their project because they carry a ruined reputation. Add to that, no community to interact with and share projects.
In the meantime, still looking for other engines but I'd appreciate a fork that I might support instead.
@@neck-o I mean, if I somehow missed the core of what you were saying it's not because I didn't read it. I'm fairly sure occam's razor applies here.
If you really need a fork, there's Redot that just popped up yesterday. Not that I really understand the point. It's just going to be the same engine. But also using it won't hurt anyone, so by all means give it a look.
@@Dharengo What you did not understand was that I considered migrating not because the engine was compromised but because there was no community to interact with. However that's been settled for me.
I have also seen Redot we'll need to know how long that fork will last. In the meantime the already available Godot versions are pretty solid as is for simple projects. Just staying clear of the deteriorating community.

@@potato9832 Interesting
