Since I have been making knives ( about five years now) I have never used a jig for grinding because I wanted to hone my skills of grinding free hand. But at first my grind lines and bevels were hot garbage but now you couldn’t tell if a machine had done it. But practice makes perfect.... almost. As always love the content and keep up the great work.
I felt like giving up on making knives I have not watched a video in a while I feel my grinds suck.watching your videos puts some pep in my step I think I will go out to the shop and make something. Thank you!!
Still the most entertaining knife videos on UA-cam! You don't disappoint! This was was both informative and really funny! Btw, we need to know how to heat treat a carrot and what HRC to expect. :-p
It's funny just last night for me I was like huh that's odd I haven't seen a green beetle upload in like ages and I looked and it was 2 months ago and then low and behold the next day you release this one
I have to say a huge thank you for this video. I've been making knives for a few years, but this is without a doubt the single best "How to" grinding video I have ever seen. Again, thank you!
Would do this if I had a desk or lap top. Mobil only and it doesn’t support Mobil. If I get access to one or the other I may try it. Thanks for the informative video. Your sense of humor is a great addition to the videos you post. Keep up the great work.
Love your videos man. You are one of the original knife makers I watched before that inspired me to make my own knives. Keep up the good work and great content!!!
As always, great video! Also thanks for all the help with the hamon on my knife! It was the metal polish that was the problem. It wasn't fine enough. I used 1500 grit sand paper to get rid of the oxides after etching and a beautiful hamon appeared. Couldn't have done it with out my friend!
I dont even work with knives and stuff but love your sense of humor :P always give me a giggle haha if i ever make a knife i'll use a hand grinder, precision at its finest
I'm not even close to the clean grinds that you do but I'm glad to see I'm on the right track. I run a 1x30 grinder and fight every moment I use it. I have learned a lot from watching your videos and the technique you use has helped me a lot and saved me a lot of time thank for the work you put in to teach us
Harbor Freight grinder? I'm not chiding you as that is the only grinder I can afford. It seems like the only options are $50 ones and then the next step up costs an additional $600.
I don't currently have an Instagram account, but I think I might try knife print anyways and see how it is, if nothing else it looks easier to create certain curves than any CAD programs I have used in the past.
This is one of the best videos I've seen on grinding bevels. I am still a beginner. However, my lines are still not straight. Thanks for the detailed info.
Great grinding tutorial... I’ve watched A LOT of grinding vids on the ‘Tube, but this one is the best. I’ve kind of given up flat grinding since I could never get consistent results. So I tried hollow grinding and it really clicked for me. This vid challenges me to go back and try flats again. Thanks!
Oh *hell yes*, I would absolutely LOVE a blank to finish out! BRB, I'm off to design a sweet knifey... Edit: Done! In the video you said at one point "only tag myself and Knifeprint" and I didn't know if that meant *don't use hashtags* or whatever, so I literally only tagged the two of you in the description and then in a comment put a blurb (but still without hashtags). If it's okay to tag it, let me know and I'll hopefully get some more views for you and Knifeprint.
Can you please help me figure out why i keep getting scratches above my grind lines? It doesnt happen with my jig so i know its something im doing wrong but i cant seem to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated
The belt has to hang over the tracking wheel to grind plunges on the left side but not on the right side so when I grind my plunges, the left side of the belt has a slight roll to it and the right side the belt is always crisp so I can't get even plunges. Any advice? Do I have to fix my tracking? I can hang the belt slightly off the platen on the right without the belt hanging off the tracking wheel while to get the left to do the same, the belt has to hang off the wheel to hang off the platen slightly if that makes sense...
Charlie Bowen draw it up on knifeprint.com, take a pic w your phone, post it on your Instagram account and tag @greenbertleknives and @knifeprint_ in the description 👍
Hello Sir Green Beetle. How do you like your ridgid grinder? i'm looking at getting a grinder to grind with. do you have a recommendation? i'm poor. want something i wont have to buy again.
I told my wife that if I get a grinder it would give her more time to do the laundry. Now I have to sleep on the couch and she said I have to do all my own laundry from now on. Thanks for the crappy advice.
I want a 2" x 72" belt grinder SO bad. Can someone give me one? Seriously you can just buy it for me. I'll even name it after you. Like if your name is Steve I'll name it "Steve the Sander", or "Gary Grinder."
I get why people do it, whether it’s lack of tools or an actual need to bust a BUNCH of knives out real fast but stock removal has always seemed like absolutely cheating to me.
I know what you're saying, but do you have any idea as to how long people have been doing this? If you hoppes into your nearest available TARDIS and hopped back out at the turn of the 2nd millennium, you'd find bladesmiths turning grinding stones to refine their bevels, and likely some form of this a millenium or two further back. But I do agree that something vital is lost by strictly grinding a knife out of steel rather than forging. first
love the video and content that you always put out. Greatly appreciate you doing the give away. However, that site is fucking worthless and about the most unfriendly design system I have ever had the displeasure of trying to use. Good luck to those willing to go through the frustration of trying to figure it out. I can't. It won't even let me delete lines I don't want there anymore.
If the eraser button doesn't work I shift+click the nodes with the arrow tool to erase lines. web based stuff gets wonky, sometimes I've had to reload the page.
CONTEST: This contest is now over thanks to all the awesome participants and grand prize winner! Check out my IG for deetz. At knifeprint use "GREENBEETLE" a discount on their pro package. Also get an extra free blank on your first two cut out orders. Offers good for a limited time.
Hi, easy to come to me kebab knife doner kebabs do you know how to create a great market here you know if you want a response I hope you'll see positive.
Man, this didn't show up in my notifications... Anyway a better excuse for getting a grinder, if I'm at the grinder, I won't be in here bugging you, if she disagrees, just make sure you get on her nerves more than usual hahaha... I made a jig, but barely ever use it, though I did find it easier to keep a rag & a small bucket of water, instead of dipping, just wipe the blade down... As for magnetized, I find it better for setting an angle finder on, but we all have what works best for us. Great video, hope all is well, take it easy... (P.S. I think gopro has a few good head mounting options you might want to look into hahaha)
I wish I would’ve found these videos two months ago when I first started. the diagrams, sense of humor and information is freaking awesome!
🙏
I really need to get myself a belt grinder. Filing bevels gets old really fast.
Hands down best video on the topic...

I'm new to making knives and I find it very difficult to keep my grind angles consistent (freehand). Any tips?

I'm glad you're still alive. Haven't heard from you in awhile.
Then again, videos do take away; especially with intensive editing.
You awakened me from my deep sleep with the love of knifemaking.
Best camera ever!!!!

Glad to see you back in the shop. I've been hoping you've been to busy in the shop to produce vids.....rather than to busy to be in the shop.
Wiley - Archangel Craftworks been too busy to be in the shop much :(. Hope it changes soon 👍

I’ve gotten to where I free hand all my knives but this has helped me soo much and I just finished my second hidden tang knife with a brass Guard

Awesome tutorial! Love your videos!
Great video! Fun and educational!
always learn something new every time I watch. Sadly, every time I try to use knife print I can't accurately use the tools on the free design editor.
Good to see another vid been a minute cheers
