  • Third day of walking this long-distance trail in Scotland. After purchasing pies in Callander, we follow the route of the old railway line as it passes between the foot of Ben Ledi and Loch Lubnaig.

My ancestors lived and worked on that line (to Oban) at St Bride's crossing at the foot of Loch Lubnaig. A lifetime working on that railway but they had long gone before it closed in 1966.

Stunning scenery, thank you for bringing this to my viewing. Callander was a favourite caravanning area of my father's, though I don't recall walks. A fine reason to walk the area myself.

More stunning for me because I found a field where my ancestors stayed.
I'm improving my videos. There's a big big place for drones. Maybe we'll get together someday.

Steak and haggis is a seriously good combination in a pie. Good food and good scenery. What more could you ask, indeed. Take care.

Hi Ed. Your videos are relaxing and intriguing at the same time. They make me appreciate Scotland's beauty, both landscape and history. I wanted to ask: how did you manage to find out so much about your ancestors? My great grandfather was scottish and I'm curious to get more information on his ancestors. I have relatives in Scotland that I can talk to, but of course it's impossible to go as far back as centuries ago just through "family memories". What do you reckon I might be able to do? Again, amazing work Ed 👍🏻

Many thanks. Researching your family history always starts with asking questions of your own family members. With a few snippets at hand you can find birth, death and marriage certificates in various places like ancestry sites, etc. With these certificates you can slowly work your way back in time. As far as my own family is concerned I was lucky to have information that went way back in time in a book about that particular Scottish clan. Good luck.

Thank you for the nice video of this walk. I saw the Rob Roy movie again not too long ago, do you happen to know if it was taken in this area? I do know that the area around Aberfoyle was used in Sir Walter Scott's book about him.

Many thanks. I'm not sure about the Rob Roy film locations, but it's a great film.

I’ve enjoyed so many bridies from Callander. I remember decades ago we got them from “the Scotch Oven” on the Main street, delicious! Also had great food at Munchy’s restaurant, small place but tasty meals!

Goodness, but you have a fantastic camera technique. You could be a professional broadcaster.
