  • Let's look at the Hidden World of Air Cargo. This is Part 3 of in my continuing behind the scenes series at Qatar Airways.
Freight, or air cargo, plays a vital role in the commercial success of an airline. It also helps keep the world supplied. However air cargo is a side of the airline industry that is rarely seen by the general public. I therefore jumped at the opportunity to go behind the scenes at Qatar Air Cargo.
From family pets to jet engines and everything in between there is almost no limit to what can be transported by air. The numbers are simply staggering and in this exclusive look into the Hidden World of Air Cargo we find out just what makes Qatar Air Cargo tick.
Here are the links to the rest of the Qatar Behind the Scenes Series:

Never ceases to amaze me how aeroplanes fly let alone with these huge amounts of weight. Really enjoying your behind the scenes videos, thank you

It's obviously a win-win for Qatar getting all this positive content but I have to say I'm very impressed with just how in-depth and broad the access they gave you was. Clearly there was the other side where I imagine you and they had to sit down & work out what was a go & what wasn't but your own negotiating skills were on-point as the footage and just the scope of what we got to see was excellent. They have whole TV series in the UK about this exact kinda thing but you & the team( s) at Qatar managed to work together to produce in 3, comparatively, short videos something way more informative than an entire production company and it's vast resources can manage in 4, 5 , 8 45 minute episodes!
Stellar job all round & kudos to everyone involved

Thanks mate, really appreciate the lovely feedback. It took some time to get the approvals etc but once that was in place I was amazed how open and welcoming everybody was. Literally the only restriction I had is that I couldn't interview any staff members live to camera but they could appear as they were explaining things to me. Other than that I had to blur out staff security badges and commercially/security sensitive things on screens etc. In a word the Qatar team were incredible.

Flying Qatar airlines to Norway from Brisbane in 10 days. Great to see the other side of the workings and how slick and organised everything is. Have flown with them before twice, an excellent airline. Thanks for the informative videos.

It's lovely to see the Queen of the Skies still pulling her weight as a cargo plane, even if she has been phased out as a passenger plane ❤

When you realise they transport horses and even cars by air, it's just incredible. You'd think only the military would use air cargo this way, but you can do it commercially if you want. I hope they gave you a bottle of Champagne when you boarded - would be a shame to break a tradition! 🙂

I did a series of videos for WFS a few years ago. One of the days we were on the stand at one of thier Cargo ops a Qatar 777 passenger jet arrived. They had removed all the seats but 1st class and filled up the cabin with Brother printer parts and accessories. They were on pallets, but since there's no large cargo door the team had to dismantle the pallets and rebuild them on the loaders. That was a long day for the team.

Hello Dennis, Thanks for sharing your behind the scenes experience at Qatar. It was you and your videos in 2019 that sold me on flying with them for the first time to experience Q- Suite and Doha. I just flew with them two weeks ago having done 4 nights in Doha and 4 nights in Abu Dhabi and once again a great experience by the airline. I just wondered if it was possible if the airline could have got you to do a behind the scenes lookaround of it's baggage handling system, baggage transfers and how they manage passengers with very tight connecting flights? It's no secret that Qatar Airways is known for high passenger numbers connecting further afield.

    • @DennisBunnikTravels

Air freight is important for time sensitive and extremely high value goods but noteworthy that internationally, the vast majority of goods that we consume are carried by container shipping or bulk ships, not air. Domestically in Australia, rail and road transport carries the vast majority of goods, not expensive air cargo.
To put it into perspective, the 600,000 tonnes per annum of freight that Qatar Airways is said to carry in its passenger aircraft bellies on a per diem basis (less than 2,000 tonnes per day) is less than half what one intermodal (container) train carries from Melbourne, Victoria or Sydney, NSW to Perth WA. A comparison with USA or Canada would be even more stark.

Why aren't passengers allowed on cargo flight?

    • @DennisBunnikTravels
      @DennisBunnikTravels  Рік тому +2

Logistical and security reasons mainly - cargo flights head to the cargo terminal where they don't have the same capacity to handle passengers.

    Hi Mr. Dennis
Mercy on those hard working staff QAS
Qatar Airways drinking blood of Grade 1 to Grade 3.
    And very low paying.
Qatar Aviation service Human resources the worst playing political games on internal vacancy upgrade.
    For example
Grade 2, even working continue lost five years.
Them self applying for internal vacancy if no support.
    He never ever upgraded.
Specially in Qatar aviation services the worst.
    Saying autograde all cheating.
    For the hard working people's.

It's an Australian travel business that Mr Bunnik is promoting through his UA-cam channel. Nobody is forcing you to fly Qatar if you don't like how they go about their business.
