No one seems to realize that if you have watched this defense all season, it’s almost obvious that Wilkes approach has been soft coverage, give underneath, we will let you pass or run, we will give you big pass plays, but we ain’t letting you score. Defense tightens in the red zone most of the time. Only 2 times this season the niners gave up 30 points. To the Bengals, and to the Ravens(who should have scored 55+ but couldn’t)
It's very reminiscent of how in the B-more game where the Ravens got four turnovers in the first half (three in the first quarter alone) yet only came away with 3 FGs and a TD. Score was 16-12 at halftime. I sincerely hope we see the Ravens again in Vegas because they think they've cracked the code and they will be in for a rude awakening if they think Niners are gonna give them the ball 5 times again. Cherry picking data is meaningless. 49ers gave up 21 points. 49ers offense scored 30+ppg 9/18 games, but 5 of those 9 games happened in the first 6 games of the season. Their defense first 6 games allowed 14.5ppg, next 6 games allowed 17ppg, next 6 games allowed 20ppg. So their offense is scoring less and less as the season goes on, and their defense is allowing more and more as the season goes on. The Packers beat them but then good ol Love threw a ‘bute of an INT. 49ers have gone to the NFC Championship game 3 of the last 4 years and only won once. 49ers coach is the same guy who lost to Patriots with a 25 point lead late in the 3rd qtr of the Super Bowl. @helladankseedco.2411 Yes, that's my point actually, I was just acknowledging that sacks appear more dynamic and exciting as well as having a concrete development of lost yards every time. Pressures are more nuanced in that they don't always have an apparent impact, "on paper", but cause misthrows that just go as incomplete. Though interceptions, as you say, do have impact as well as being an on paper stat of possession change.
@helladankseedco.2411 just like the 2 Love INT's... and it should have been 3. Purdy had 1 that should have been an INT. The 2nd they keep talking about didn't even hit the DB's hands. They talk about what "ifs" more than what really happened.
They're very good at ignoring the fact that 90% of Purdy's problem last week was the rain. Rain is his kryptonite - he can't get a grip on the ball to pass accurately and he's not comfortable. Sunday will be sunny and 70F, which plays to Brock's strengths. He's gonna throw dimes.
@@daywren7511 True, but Purdy is known in particular to struggle in the rain compared to other QBs. Wveryone was slipping and sliding in the mud, but Purdy can't get a grip on the ball, and it showed. As I said, it's his personal kryptonite.
If Purdy gets the job done but is not a top 5 QB. I think that's a good thing. Teams with star QB's can hamstring a team because of how much they take away from the salary cap, leaving less capable players to win with.
That's a pretty big stretch by Florio to assume that if Todd Bowles takes that last time out that somehow the Buccaneers score more points and cover the spread. Not likely. 😂
Remember back to start of season Florio banging on constantly about 'the pressure is on the lions now, they have to deliver now!' How did that work out?
as a 49er fan it sucks to be the bad guy vs the lions but if we lose and the lions win ill still be rooting for the lions to win it all as i cant root for two teams that have beat my 49ers in the superbowl
Im a Niners fan and we do NOT have a good run defense, at least we havent since the back end of the season into the playoffs. I think well win but that kid for the Packers ran all over us and Gibbs is even better. The Dline MUST get to Goff consistently or it will put tons of pressure on Ward, Demo, and Thomas. Purdy also needs to get out of his head and just have a good time playing the game. Let the pressure go. I think hes scared to death to throw a pick and you cant play like that.
I think jahmo is gonna go off against SF hes faster then anyone of the SF team down field its like trying to catch a cheetah don't forget Montgomery and willians
If 49ers can give the right side of their line some help to keep the QB pressures under 25% of Purdy's dropbacks, Purdy is going to throw over 300 yards and have 3 TD's. And then on Monday, everyone except Sherman and Chris Broussard, who all said Purdy had a horrible game against Packers will downplay Purdy's performance against the Lions and say he had a great game, but will give more credit to the rest of the 49ers offense, to Kyle and the Lions passing defense sucking.

Florio is funny. I certainly hope the Lions go all in on stopping the run and making Purdy beat them. Purdy and Shanahan would be licking their lips and drooling for that. Purdy (a.k.a. "Bambi with fangs," according to Rich Eisen) will make the game a Purdy highlight film. Btw, the 49er offense is #1 in explosive plays (passes 20+ yds, runs 10+ yds) while the Lions defense is the #32 defense at preventing explosive plays. The Lions are #1 against the run but around #26 against the pass. I respect the Lions and think they'll now be top contenders for awhile, but to me this is starting to feel like a 49er blowout. (Good weather, 49ers with 82% home crowd attendance, very healthy while Lions are more beat up and exhausted, Deebo seems on track for playing to complete the juggernaut offense, defense that knows Goff well and will at least slow down Gibbs and the Lions run game, etc.). 49ers 41-27. Yeah, by 2 TD's. People seem to have forgotten the 42-10 routing of the Cowboys, the 34-3 smashing of the then-hot Jaguars, the 27-14 beat down of the Buccaneers, and the 42-19 breaking of the Eagles. These were all when these teams were supposed to be at their peaks. It's time for the 49ers to remind the league who they are.
"Purdy played like shit last week...." (In the rain, with some rust, etc.) - and he didn't play that poorly. But THE REST OF THE SEASON he was the most efficienty QB in the game with the best numbers across the QB categories, cutting up defenses.....but this game? Noooooooope. Won't be able the throw. I doubt Detroit will bring in fewer coverage guys than receivers, including the back. Samel gets more than 7 targets SF will hit 30 points and probably cover at home.
there are two concepts of championship football. one is change ones identity to fit the opponent. this is a trap that more intelligent coaches sometimes fall into, ie they out clever themselves. shanahan has historically called bad games in the post season, on atlanta and the 49ers. sometimes it works though. another style of football is discover your identity and stick to your identity and make the other team stop it. this can run into a brick wall, but a lot of championship teams have done this. it seems to me that cmc is the best player on the 49ers. in the playoffs i tend to think lean on your best players. the most probable way the 49ers lose this game is if Purdy plays the way hes played in every loss they've had this year, and the way he played last week. i'd limit purdy's plate. i think the game for the 49ers offense should go through cmc, run him more often than not to the left behind trent williams and kittle, force the lions to stop it. when they sell all out to stop it, hit them with the play action.
They are just smarter these players are still in their twenties it's been but don't break especially when we're in the goal line... And they deserve a break because they've been holding this team together for so long now the offense has to hold it into the bargain and try not to have as many turnovers
To be fair, he lost because the PK missed and field-goal and extra-point. He's cost the 49ers two games this year doing that. However, the idea that any QB can run this system is ludicrous. If that were true, CJ Beathard would still be the QB.
Go watch the Rams 2022 Superbowl. Instead of just listening to Mcvay deflect the loss over to Goff- just watch the 2 perfect throws in the end zone to Cooks who didn’t catch the ball,, and watch Gourley who was useless and couldn’t run anymore. But Keep believing McVay who got beat by Goff- its over
Wilks can delver a superior defense, but there are times when he comes up short. There’s plenty of talent, so inconsistency is with the coaching. Most important is the cornerback situation. Jayir Brown can handle the safety chores but Nelson is a chimk in the armor. For crying out loud don’t start the weak guys.
Florio is hilarious, Dallas took away McCaffrey and Purdy torched em! And the idea that Shanahan is going to go find another QB is funny too. You have this kid ballin out on the lowest end of a rookie QB contract who bailed the coach and GM out of the Lance debacle. If this is true and we see Cousins come in, I’ll be done with Shanahan.
@@jackstark1011I think he's just pointing out how stupid that comment was. Yes, the Lions had already covered, and more than likely they cover by even more with the TO called lol
The thought that the timeout was a guarantee for more points for the Bucs is fucking stupid, Florio. The Lions covered. They had a 2 possession lead in the 4th, which started off tied.
Also, the coach would had used the time out on the first lions play. The lions would of either gotten another 1st down or kicked a field goal. Leaving 7 seconds left
What people fail to see is the 49's play their pass game between the numbers not on the deep sideline routes which puts Purdy throwing the ball into the area of Melifonwu, Gardner-Johnson and Brian Branch and that crew is as good a group as any in the league. The corners have had trouble covering the deep routes but that's not Friscos game. That front four for Frisco is going to have trouble getting to Goff and if they do blitz Goff will eat them alive and the draw plays to Gibbs or Montgomery???? I think this game is alot different than people think it is. I put money on that 7 points and iam fairly confident that a big shocker is coming Sunday but in the end Brock Purdy and Jared Goff are coached very well and neither may possess Aaron Rodgers skillset but both can eat you alive with the schemes given them. Lions win
I’m rooting for the Lions, but unless they are minimum plus 2 in turnovers( might need plus 3) they have very little chance. Weather is going to be perfect. Lions secondary will have problems. Lions O can be productive and should score points but if Tampa can score 23 in Detroit, I expect SF to be able to get 35 to 38 at home, can Lions put 30 plus on SF defense on the road unless they are plus 2 or 3 on turnovers? 😊
Detroit put up 6 points on the ravens 🤣 and gave up 350 yards and 3 touchdowns to baker mayfield their defense is trash asf niners going to eat it’s a day game 🔥
this gives me v similar vibes to the niners eagles game. the eagles had a rly good offense but their defense secondary was v weak w a good front. hopefully the niners can play as well as they did against the eagles and expose that weak secondary💯
If Todd had made that timeout, lions would've gone for a fieldgoal... then victory would've been out of reach....he'd be rubbing salt in his own wound at that point
The biggest “ X “ factor is the over coached playcalling . Can he make adjustments if behind.? Can he be aggressive during championship games . He plays conservative when ahead during championships . He has managed to lose 2 SBs with leads . It is Kyles SB to lose . No excuses ……
Make Brock beat the Lions because if you make CMC do it he will? Okay, but do you realize that both of those guys are in the running for the League MVP... Let that sink in.
Funny how these 2 guys trashed Purdy and then predicted 49ers are going to win against Lions. These days, media folks have to say something really stupid to get attention, including Chris Simms.
Even if Deebo is ready to play, Melifounwu is going to stop him, so offensively the lions have more weapons to beat the 49ers, La Porta, Gibbs, Aman Ra, Montgomery, there’s no way the 49er can beat the Lions.
The 49ers have CMC, Mitchell, Mason, Juszczyk, Deebo, Aiyuk, Jennings, and Kittle that all can catch passes or run the football. You also can throw in Bell, McCloud and Conley as well. That's how the Shanahan offense works. The Lions WISHED they had more weapons.
I agree with you the 49ers have a lot guys that are able to run and catch the ball 🏈, but where have they been when Deebo is not playing? They have a negative record without Deebo, they’re a different team without Deebo, of course they have to have a plan B in case Deebo is not 💯 % but it’s gonna be tough to beat the lions.
Chris Simms is as guilty as anyone with the Purdy hatred. Purdy played horrible huh? His team won the game. But Chris has nothing but praise for Jordan Love who with the game on the line Choked like a dog and threw the football straight at 3 49er defenders.
Regardless how Brock Purdy plays on Sunday, he will never get the respect that good quarterbacks get when they win Brock win games he will have that opportunity to prove that on Sunday against the Lions.
It's not about "Don't you dare say a bad thing about Brock Purdy"...that's not it at all & you know this! His stats weren't good. They weren't really good. They weren't great. They were historically novel/great, while passing every single eye test. Then, the national media calls him an average at best QB. THAT is the issue here, & you know it...or hell, you certainly should know it. How many other QBs could have Brock's stats or better with this team? The answer may be zero. It may be one. It may be four. It's almost certainly not more than four, & he did this as a 23yo!! I've come to realize that folks say what they say simply because they don't watch the 49ers...maybe that'll change here.
@jesse8458 It's the "as well" part that I just don't think you're grasping. I think you must be looking at his traditional stats. His advanced stats have never been seen before, the best deep ball throwing in NFL history. Do I legitimately think more than four other QBs would also do things that have never been done before?? @@scottsherman5262 you take a stat at face level, and since it's not just a basic traditional stat like "passing yards", you think it qualifies as some deep analysis. Purdy has been good. But "the best deep ball throwing" is an absurd take, and I'm sure a stat might tell you that without factoring in that it's relatively easy to complete a deep ball if the guy is schemed wide open. Purdy throws an average ball. That's not bad. It's average. He makes better than average reads. And in that SF offense, that's enough to put up really good numbers and be a productive QB. But it's also something that probably 10-15 other guys could do in that offense. Each of the other 3 QBs who remain in the playoffs would all be as good or better in Purdy's situation.

49ers don't need to blitz. 60% off Loves passes were under pressure - he was backpedaling almost all game.
Pressures can have a more steady influence on the game than sacks, if not as impactful.
@@ericwollaston5654 Pressures cause mistakes, like INT's...
Lions offensive line is leagues better aswell though.
They're very good at ignoring the fact that 90% of Purdy's problem last week was the rain. Rain is his kryptonite - he can't get a grip on the ball to pass accurately and he's not comfortable. Sunday will be sunny and 70F, which plays to Brock's strengths. He's gonna throw dimes.
both teams were playing in the rain btw
@@daywren7511 True, but Purdy is known in particular to struggle in the rain compared to other QBs. Wveryone was slipping and sliding in the mud, but Purdy can't get a grip on the ball, and it showed. As I said, it's his personal kryptonite.
You guys even think about discussing what the Lions can or need to do? Or just talk about the Niners the whole time?
thats how afraid they are of the Lions, theyre playing good post season football and are an almost complete team (except in the secondary)
If Purdy gets the job done but is not a top 5 QB. I think that's a good thing. Teams with star QB's can hamstring a team because of how much they take away from the salary cap, leaving less capable players to win with.
Just goes to show those QB contracts are getting too big.

Florio, do you watch football or just talk about it? let Goff be comfortable and throw it? he will slice them up. take away the run? how you going to do that? the lions have great backs. the niners need to take advantage on offense and exploit the lions secondary. but the lions bend but often dont break. they are good in the red zone. when the field condenses they stiffen up. it will be a good game. the lions are getting better on every outing because of the experience and players getting healthy. the lions 2 wks ago are not the same as the team playing tomorrow. Brock purdy, didn't play well last week, until he really needed to. This man is clutch.

I sweat the Purdy critiques get more and more narrow, there is nothing genuine about the hacks putting this crap out.
Let me get this straight.. Purdy had more completions, less INTs and a game-winning drive.. he's younger and has been in the NFL less time than Love but Purdy is "in trouble" and Love is "the future"?

Simms: tHe NiNeRs ArE a RuNnInG tEaM.
49ers: 3 Pass catchers with over 1000 yards...
there are two concepts of championship football. one is change ones identity to fit the opponent. this is a trap that more intelligent coaches sometimes fall into, ie they out clever themselves. shanahan has historically called bad games in the post season, on atlanta and the 49ers. sometimes it works though. another style of football is discover your identity and stick to your identity and make the other team stop it. this can run into a brick wall, but a lot of championship teams have done this. it seems to me that cmc is the best player on the 49ers. in the playoffs i tend to think lean on your best players. the most probable way the 49ers lose this game is if Purdy plays the way hes played in every loss they've had this year, and the way he played last week. i'd limit purdy's plate. i think the game for the 49ers offense should go through cmc, run him more often than not to the left behind trent williams and kittle, force the lions to stop it. when they sell all out to stop it, hit them with the play action.
I’m going Niners 30-17
Go Niners!
Versus, Chris. You can handle it.
I like under 51. Both teams are good. Under 51 is more than likely. Brian's picks
They are just smarter these players are still in their twenties it's been but don't break especially when we're in the goal line... And they deserve a break because they've been holding this team together for so long now the offense has to hold it into the bargain and try not to have as many turnovers
Chris Simms the only guy I listen to absolute legend I love listening too him 🫵🏻
I wouldn't say legend. His dad was a much better qb.
In the media world
He is good in media but he's still too young to be considered a legend.

Nope- he wants so bad to believe McVay was correct about Goff - so sad they keep wishing and hoping
He also can't say one good thing about Purdy. Trust me...us Niner fans feel mutual in this
If any QB can do it, why did Sam Darnold lose the final game of the season? What were Sam’s stats?
To be fair, he lost because the PK missed and field-goal and extra-point. He's cost the 49ers two games this year doing that. However, the idea that any QB can run this system is ludicrous. If that were true, CJ Beathard would still be the QB.
It could be SHAMnahan was the problem all along...when SHAM had to throw so many QBs under da bus
Huh?
Go watch the Rams 2022 Superbowl. Instead of just listening to Mcvay deflect the loss over to Goff- just watch the 2 perfect throws in the end zone to Cooks who didn’t catch the ball,, and watch Gourley who was useless and couldn’t run anymore. But Keep believing McVay who got beat by Goff- its over
Bro why tf did they talk about the miners the entire time? This ain’t San Fran radio I can’t wait until they have to give the lions credit next yr
When Todd Bowles calls timeout and the Lions hit a FG. What does that do to the spread?
The spread was around 6, the Lions covered it either way.
Lions win
Can't wait to see florio trying to make up reasons why the lions won Monday. I already know deebo was hurt and cmc was banged up is on the way.

Detroit vs Everybody

You legitimately think there are no more than 4 QBs that would do as well in SF’s offense? Yikes.
His stats were better than Love!
@jesse8458 It's the "as well" part that I just don't think you're grasping. I think you must be looking at his traditional stats. His advanced stats have never been seen before, the best deep ball throwing in NFL history. Do I legitimately think more than four other QBs would also do things that have never been done before?? NO!!! No, I don't think this offense is so Godly that a bunch of dudes also set all-time records.
Do you guys even watch Lion games?!? They give up a TON of passing yards...and are arguably 6 and 0 (Dallas? Nope) when doing so. So...hey.
