The metal cover that comes with the vise is made to slip under the fixed jaw to guard the screw between the jaws. It slips in from the fixed jaw end of the vise. I cut mine into two pieces so it doesn't run into the back if the table is adjusted to the back. You can add the second piece if the jaws are more open. I use advertising refrigerator magnets to protect this end but I really like your idea and I will do that. I really like your videos so keep it up. Yelm, Wa.
enjoyed....got an upgrade idea for you....at the vise handle end create a window shade roller that will roll up the material as the vise opens or let out the material when closing....hmmm,
You can do the same thing for each side of the vise to cover the table slots to keep out the chips. Saves a ton of time in clean up. This is also good for the table slide in the y axis if you don't have the telescoping covers as in my mill drill.
Thank you for sharing this project. I sure do like the idea of a straight edge guide for the finish sanding on the parts. Good one there Yuchol. Thanks again
Now you have me wondering about the lead screw on my lathe. Thanks just what I need another project after Quin telling me to check for wobble on my live center.
Yuchol, The sheet metal piece that you say is useless @2:20 is actually REALLY nice. RTFM is the old saying. You are putting it on the wrong side fo the movable jaw. It goes between the two jaws and actually fits perfectly up under the movable jaw and slides all the way through the back of the vice under the stationary aft jaw. Cut to length as necessary. I wish it came with two!
Nice solution, also drives me crazy but I am a sloth so... Some time ago I made SS way covers from a IKEA roll up blind but swapped the fabric for tool wrap, hot chips no problem. Now my pants don't get oiled when I lean against the mill. Peter
Milling machine table covers and vise covers are one stop on the journey. If you keep on the path, you will see that some day you will look back and think, "Gee, it is funny how those covers were so important to me then." But don't discount the past when you look back from the future. The covers were a necessary step in the path to get past the need for them, and to bring focus to the real reason to have your shop. The truth is that your brain needs your shop right now. It fills a need. It might be a temporary need or an everlasting one. But the shop just answers a question that your brain is asking. The table and vise covers just keep explaining the answer, but they just serve to make the essay longer. You might not reach the end of writing it because you are not ready to experience the next chapter. There are only so many pages in the book. Don't be afraid to read as much as you can. We all struggle with the words. It is just a matter of how strong your glasses are to be able to read the fine print. Good luck with your book Yuchol.
I’m enamored with your mill table covers. Did you make those? I have pieces of mine conveyer belt cut to fit both sides of my vise. I hate ‘em. Total PITA. I’d like something better, like yours.
Dont forget to keep your vise mounted in the exact same position forever so you only wear it out in one spot. because thats what you will do with those table covers. lol
That intro and that shirt. I am still laughing ;)
Protecting everything that moves from chips is definetly a good thing. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Stefan, I am learning from you 🤣

Hi Gary, there is a shorter piece still under the fixed jaw which works fine. Thanks for watching neighbor!
Nice short and very effective project. Thanks Yuchol and take care!
You can also use a 90 degree spotting drill to chamfer. I used one this morning to cut some weld prep.
That’s a great idea, I will try that, thanks James! 👍🏼
Great idea and another great video. Thanks!
Nice, I tried to order but nothing but a 800 sex line.
I was one of the first 100 people to order so they are throwing in a free set of steak knives!
Now the government can track you
@@woodscreekworkshop9939 That's okay. I have been on their list for years now. LOL

Neat concept. You’re correct about the little sheet metal guard isn’t too swift
Thanks Jim!

I have been using that printable magnetic material as my guard, but I am not terribly happy with it.
Well, now you got one coming your way, will be there tomorrow, your very own Vise Chap 2020 😁
Love the t shirt.
My kids enjoy it

Excellent idea Yuchol. Wonder how many of those I can make from the leather on my recliner ?
At least 30
Nice project
Thanks Mike!
But how can I make this if I don't own a milling machine?
Aha!! The famous Three Monkeys t-shirt. Nice project, Yuchol. I foresee a lot of these on vises all over UA-cam land.
Leather chaps for everybody!
Roflol great video 👍

I read your comment, took time to reflect on and came back to tell you how poetic it was 🙏🏻
Good idea, thanks for sharing.
Thanks
Excellent idea. My sexy vises need chaps. 😂
That’s right bro
Question sir. What are those bolts called? I am trying to find some. Thaks
Hi Rick, they are button head socket cap screw

I made them, 1/4” 6061 aluminum. I like it a lot, but not cheap 🤣
@@woodscreekworkshop9939 Let's see them up close.
Hahah the intro made me laugh
Maybe you could use different colors.
Pink for you
@@woodscreekworkshop9939 Hello Kitty pink please.
My vise is named bridgebort, because that old-school font looks more like a b than a p.
Chaps...ROFL! How about calling it a vice condom?
Maybe the next version
Chip Chaps
Ding dong...... Lolllll

You’re too funny.

I would give it a thumbs up, but it was entirely too long for such a simple project. Should have been less than 5 minutes.
