I am PRAYING that you give Godfrey's Axe this treatment, it would easily be my favorite weapon in the game if it wasn't stuck with that bland awful colossal weapon moveset. I never thought the weapon moveset was boring with the javelin heavy and super complex weapon art, though i wish it was a stance art with the spin attack and triple poke separated
I wouldn't call the AOW complex. It's a basic 3 input AOW combo like many others in the game. It looks cool though. The heavy throws are just way too weak in vanilla imo, they're generally not worth it. I'd call it boring also because it gets the normal Great Spear moveset, which does not match Messmer at all, imo.
I think the weapon art is dope, but the base weapon moveset is really really boring. You have: - 1-handed R1: three slow forward pokes. - 2-handed R1: two slower forward pokes - 1-handed R1: slow throw attack that doesn't do much damage and doesn't combo into anything - 2-handed R1: literally the same as the 1-handed R1but with 1.5x your Strength for a slight damage bump. - L1: spinny zoomy fast attack combo that's the same as one of Messmer's cooler attack combos. If you're just spamming the weapon art then its flashy and cool, but if you try to use it normally its just a *worse* great spear because you don't have access to running heavy attacks, heavy attacks or charged heavy attacks.

You shouldn't be able to use Messmer's Assault, you're not Messmer. You shouldn't be able to use Ranni's Dark Moon, you're not Ranni. You shouldn't be able to use Grafted Dragon, you're not Godrick. You shouldn't be able to use Waterfowl Dance, you're not Malenia. You shouldn't be able to use Elden Stars, you're not the Elden Beast. I could go on, but I think my point is clear. You may not be the boss, but you've already been using over and over their own skills and magic, so I don't see why you couldn't just mimic their fighting style using their weapon, when you've been doing that over and over with their own skills and magic.
as i said before i really love your work, making the moveset cooler, more fun to use and more of a viable option while keeping it balanced and vanilla feeling basically doing fromsoft's work love it!

I’m not a huge fan of modded movesets as they usually zip you around so fast the camera can’t keep up and have you fly around and spin to do 200 damage but this feels weighty and punchy and still feels within the realm of Elden ring.
I have to say, one thing about your movesets that i find really interesting is that, usually when someone converts enemy/boss animations to be used by the player, the transition back to idle will be very janky, as obviously the character the original animations belonged to has its own idle that is visually distinct from the player's, but your transitions are very seamless and smooth, and i wonder how you achieved that
I love your work and I just binged all the videos in your channel. Looking forward to the modpack. Do you have plans on adding any other trick weapons like Eleonora's pole blade? I had an idea of making a staff type weapon like wukong's staff but with the twinblade move set and storm related AOW but I can't mod so that's that. This would've been perfect for my Final Fantasy Dragoon-inspired build. It's such a shame that so many spears in the actual game have rather boring base move sets. The Spear of the Impaler's unique skill shouldn't be the only thing it has going for it.
I think it would be cool if it could be wielded in your left hand like how messmer does. it looks odd seeing messmers attacks used with it in the right hand. other that that this is really cool!

I thought this was the most disappointing weapon in the DLC. having us wield it the way Messmer does (the way you’ve laid out here) would have been so much better than the normal greatspear movest.. idk why they didn’t just make it a normal spear and give it the naginata moveset if they were just gonna be lazy
You know the attack in his second phase when he jiggles a bit and then does the swirly torpedo? I just want that as the ash of war and it would be perfect
Small critique, but on the weapon art you should probably keep some javelins focused on where the player lands considering thats where the enemy is most likely to be when used.

i feel like the mesmer spear should have had a unique move set on its light attacks from the get go and not just the simple heavy spear one, i like the weapon art i like the spear throw, but i absolutly dislike the heavy speak attacks in the game over all
Niiiiiice. That's a slick moveset you got here, extremely acrobatic, much like Messmer's own fighting style. The fire trails on the 2-handed moveset are especially cool. And a BONUS ATTACK ??? AND CHAIN COMBOS ??? You ARE getting enough rest, right ??? Now for nitpicks (sorry) I think it'd be nice to have different heavy attacks for 2-handed. Keeping the throw is obviously a right choice, but 1-handed feels enough (on top of the awesome running R2). I think keeping the liberty of having charged melee attacks as well could be nice, like for stance breaks, or just to feel the oomph of a charged melee heavy... I don't know what you could use to let it feel fresh aside from the Treespear double stab. Why not borrow animations from Flame Spear / Flame Skewer Ashes of War ? (not the whole ash necessarily, but the motion... Granted, Messmer uses very similar moves as well but I'm trying to find easily replaceable stuff so you don't have to design attacks from scratch...) The rest are much tinier nitpicks, about sound : the sound of the fire effect on 2-handing would get a bit annoying after a while imo. And the sound timing on the final part of the Ash of War (the spear ground summon) is slightly off compared to vanilla. That said, those are just personal nitpicks. The R1 light attacks of this mod look absolutely stellar and being able to chain them together is just fantastic. You're cooking.

Although, that doesn't mean I won't think about the idea. I'll see what works better for me. The fire effect sound is much less noticeable in gameplay, to my experience. It could still change depending on how it goes during testing phases with my friends. As for the AOW's sound, I tried to match how it sounded on Messmer, but I think you're right, and this will most likely be fixed.

But you also said you were buffing the throws, so if they do higher damage, don't have too big of a damage fall-off with distance (common issue to all smithscript weapons, really) and don't delete your stamina bar with a single charge, it's already a very, very welcome change. I rewatched to check the fire effect and indeed, it seems less noticeable. (And I could just go back to 1-handed outside combat anyway) I definitely see the vision of trying to port Messmer's moveset to our Tarnished, mostly the fancy combos and the acrobatics, I also noticed the different grip (our Tarnished grabs the spear much farther on the handle in vanilla), which is also very Messmer-like. Unfortunately FromSoft has to make the boss weapons like this because of PVP. If they did actually make the Spear of the Impaler have a moveset similar to the one in this video then it would be completely broken in PVP due to the insane range and startup speed of the attacks. The only way they could fix this is by making the boss weapons have more powerful movesets in PVE and be nerfed in PVP but that would take a lot of time and effort to implement.

I like the movesets, but i dont really appreciate it in a fromsoft game. But hey to each their own, if you like flashy combos then by all means. I just feel that it unnecessarily overinflates the moveset of a weapon, which has an impact on the storytelling and balancing of a weapon. I mean if I wanted to play dmc or street fighter i could just boot up those games hahahaha.
I understand, but I don't fully agree with your reasoning. Not that it's not fair, but you say that it "unnecessarily overinflates the moveset of a weapon", and to that I say, the weapon's moveset is the basic great spear moveset, I don't think it has such an impact on its storytelling, I'd say it hurts it more. As for balancing, I made it stronger, definitely didn't think of PvP and never will, but I don't think this hurts the weapon that much. Now, again, totally fair that it's not your thing !
They're just slightly less strong than normal great spear heavies now, they also go much further. As a trade-off, I didn't change the stamina consumption. All of this could still change though.
@RasteroftheUniverse personally I think increasing the damage to that extent will make it broken. Keep it closer to the middle of R1 and R2 damages of normal greatspear. Reducing the stamina cost will make it more viable in combat. It really doesn't do insufficient damage imo.
Fromsoft really made the holy sword of moonlight in blood borne and decided "yeah lets never do that again" and then restricted most boss weapons to the normal moveset with one cool ash if war. Most underwhelming part of elden ring imo, love the mods my guy I just wish it was easy to run with the convergence any chance we could get a greatsword with slave knight gaels moveset on it 👀👀👀
Exactly my point ! The boss weapons should be the coolest, and some of the strongest. You beat the boss, goddammit, and your reward is sometimes something that is worse than a goddamn wooden club.

Yeah, the DLC remembrances are generally worse than the vanilla ones. Greatsword of Damnation is almost completely useless in PvE. Radahn's Greatswords being split in 2 is ridiculous. Poleblade of the Bud sucks. Rellana's Twin Blades are super weak.
I actually really like the base Messmer’s spear (even the this one is way cooler) it’s great when you have it in your right hand and Vyke’s spear in your left. Or just two handing it.

Because it's "technically" the two handed moveset. It just looked too weird, with the changes I made, to let the tarnished hold the weapon with their two hands.
It started decent with the 1h R1, then it turned silly with the 5 meter dashes and ashes of war in the basic moves. "A less dissapointing moveset" when your ideal is not quite in line with any actual souls moveset... come on. Moveset was stock but you went the opposite side of the spectrum.
To be honest it feels like this mod is combining the fast-paced combo-linking combat of games like DMC and Final Fantasy 16 with the bosses and RPG elements of Soulsborne. Carian Combo Warriors also did a similar thing, and y'know what, I am all here for it. Plus, even if no one elses uses it, they're making the mod based on what they want to do in the game, not based on what others want them to do to it. If ya don't like it, don't play it. Just don't criticize it just because it isn't your cup of tea.

Boss weapons are disappointing because all normal weapon are overtuned. Back in Dark Souls days, weapon with special move where very rare. The artorias greatsword who could do an overhead jump was awesome, in Elden Ring it's just a standard ashe of war. I didn't dislike the normal moveset of the spear. The only problem is its lack of heavy attack in a game where poise break is so useful. Here it feel way too fast and powerful.
Base weapon works just fine in my opinion, what alot of people don't put into consideration when complaining about move sets is balance. Sure this looks cool, but it wouldn't really interact well with the base game if implemented.
@@toastmaster914 can't make em all that unique, but an exclusive 3-part ash of war, a unique heavy, unique charged heavy, running heavy attack and horseback heavy attack all with a throwing weapon gimmick is a sweet deal

it's made to work exactly like Messmer's version, so it's an AOE, the placement of spears isn't exactly a problem.

hoping for a release this month
I like the movesets, but i dont really appreciate it in a fromsoft game. But hey to each their own, if you like flashy combos then by all means. I just feel that it unnecessarily overinflates the moveset of a weapon, which has an impact on the storytelling and balancing of a weapon. I mean if I wanted to play dmc or street fighter i could just boot up those games hahahaha.
I understand, but I don't fully agree with your reasoning.
Not that it's not fair, but you say that it "unnecessarily overinflates the moveset of a weapon", and to that I say, the weapon's moveset is the basic great spear moveset, I don't think it has such an impact on its storytelling, I'd say it hurts it more.
As for balancing, I made it stronger, definitely didn't think of PvP and never will, but I don't think this hurts the weapon that much.
Now, again, totally fair that it's not your thing !

How did u buff tge heavy throws? Imo the damage and animation length is fine. It just needs reduced stamina consumption.
They're just slightly less strong than normal great spear heavies now, they also go much further. As a trade-off, I didn't change the stamina consumption.
All of this could still change though.
@RasteroftheUniverse personally I think increasing the damage to that extent will make it broken. Keep it closer to the middle of R1 and R2 damages of normal greatspear. Reducing the stamina cost will make it more viable in combat. It really doesn't do insufficient damage imo.
This mod is very good , the only thing that's annoys me its he use the spear like a sword, the weapon dont have the reach of a spear.

Fromsoft really made the holy sword of moonlight in blood borne and decided "yeah lets never do that again" and then restricted most boss weapons to the normal moveset with one cool ash if war.
Most underwhelming part of elden ring imo, love the mods my guy

The boss weapons should be the coolest, and some of the strongest. You beat the boss, goddammit, and your reward is sometimes something that is worse than a goddamn wooden club.
@@RasteroftheUniverse Maybe not worse than a wood club moreso a wood club but now it does 10% more ice damage than an infused wood club with a semi flashy ash of war.
I mean the greatsword of damnation doesnt even have a thrust attack like midra and its ash of war is literally only effective in pvp

the current spear of the Impaler,and messmer's orb actually are so bad,like FromSoft you made a great boss, with amazing moveset and lore,why can't I have something good upon defeating him, pretty much every dlc remembrance is that way which is very sad
Yeah, the DLC remembrances are generally worse than the vanilla ones.
Greatsword of Damnation is almost completely useless in PvE.
Radahn's Greatswords being split in 2 is ridiculous.
Poleblade of the Bud sucks.
Rellana's Twin Blades are super weak.
I actually really like the base Messmer’s spear (even the this one is way cooler) it’s great when you have it in your right hand and Vyke’s spear in your left. Or just two handing it.

I don't get this at all. You have a whole moveset labeled two handed... Where the character is holding the spear in one hand.
Because it's "technically" the two handed moveset. It just looked too weird, with the changes I made, to let the tarnished hold the weapon with their two hands.
It started decent with the 1h R1, then it turned silly with the 5 meter dashes and ashes of war in the basic moves.
"A less dissapointing moveset" when your ideal is not quite in line with any actual souls moveset... come on. Moveset was stock but you went the opposite side of the spectrum.
To be honest it feels like this mod is combining the fast-paced combo-linking combat of games like DMC and Final Fantasy 16 with the bosses and RPG elements of Soulsborne. Carian Combo Warriors also did a similar thing, and y'know what, I am all here for it.
Plus, even if no one elses uses it, they're making the mod based on what they want to do in the game, not based on what others want them to do to it. If ya don't like it, don't play it. Just don't criticize it just because it isn't your cup of tea.

Elden ring brought with it the kind of people that fear anything that isn't blind praise regardless of any actual merit.
You didn't see the contradiction of your own comment when typing "don't criticize it if you don't like it" under the video titled with a criticism of the original moveset, because your allergy to friction kicked in before proper analysis.
No one stopped him from doing any moveset he wanted, but he made a claim to quality all by himself.
I care about making these claims meaningful by not auto censoring myself. I don't prefer appearences to seeking the truth.
@glatykoffi6672 It isn't criticizm to say "I don't like this, I like this instead" as Raster did. The moveset being better is entirely subjective to him. However, it is critizism to call his moveset "silly" and say things like "come on" because you don't feel like it belongs in the game. While both opinions are subjective (there is nothing wrong with thinking that fast, flashy movesets don't fit inside the gloomy and heavy-hitting Fromsoft game universe), it becomes critique when you begin insulting the other.

I am now criticising not the nature of the moveset, but the notion that what he presented was any BETTER, as he suggested in his title. Considering the disconnection with any other souls moveset, his ideal is off topic and his claim has no grounds. It's not "I feel like x or y", it isn't subjective, the facts of moveset history back it up.
Seeing insults in "silly" and "come on" is not your worst mistake, your worst mistake is equating criticism to an insult. Criticism is an attempt at reality assesement, you can only blame yourself if you take it personally.
@@glatykoffi6672 Him saying "This isn't as disappointing" is an opinion, not criticism. I will stand my ground on that. He felt disappointed with the original moveset, and feels that the changes he made are inherrintly better.
I also continue to fail to see how the moveset being un-Fromsoft-like has any good or bad impact to the argument. "This moveset is drastically different from every other moveset that is usually in this game, so any opinions made on it are immediatly null and void and hold no grounds." Don't you see how wrong and unfair that sounds? If we base every judgment on whether or not it is unique, and claim that something being unique immediately throws out any credibility, then creativity will die.
I will admit you're right that I jumped to conclusions on your criticism being insults, I think it clear based on your responses that you weren't intending that, despite the original comment seeming condescending of sorts.
One last thing to add though - I would appreciate it explained why you believe that the moveset being face-paced and flashy is silly and subjectively worse than the original, as the original comment made it seem. Perhaps some clarity might help me understand where you're coming from better, and I do want to understand that or I'd have dropped the debate long ago. Hope you're doing well stranger.
this made me question why the movesets are so boring and onedimensional in the game
Boss weapons are disappointing because all normal weapon are overtuned.
Back in Dark Souls days, weapon with special move where very rare. The artorias greatsword who could do an overhead jump was awesome, in Elden Ring it's just a standard ashe of war.
I didn't dislike the normal moveset of the spear. The only problem is its lack of heavy attack in a game where poise break is so useful.
Here it feel way too fast and powerful.
Why can't fromsoft do stuff like this? I wish things were less rushed and there was a little more passion put into it.
Base weapon works just fine in my opinion, what alot of people don't put into consideration when complaining about move sets is balance. Sure this looks cool, but it wouldn't really interact well with the base game if implemented.

@@toastmaster914 can't make em all that unique, but an exclusive 3-part ash of war, a unique heavy, unique charged heavy, running heavy attack and horseback heavy attack all with a throwing weapon gimmick is a sweet deal
@spookytown7963 not all of them, just remembrance weapons. Besides nobody would notice if 100 of those weapons were completely removed
