  • A major step in the development of this tree. I pull the old needles (last 2 years), some of the new needles, then wire the tree to allow for interior growth. A couple of large wounds are addressed and then I work the roots, removing many larger roots to develop better nabari (roots). Finally, new soil and a pot. The plan is to let the tree grow a year to get strong again, then graft new growth in the interiors of the branches to make the it more compact. Also, there are not many branches up top, so I'll need to graft there. I'll repot this tree again in 3-4 years and do more root work, as I could not remove all the large roots at once. It is a 5-10 year process if all goes well!
