Great video, with great advice. One thing that helps me these days - after a few years of serious street/urban photography, is to go out with an intent or a plan around a concept/style/story/anything that brings some structure and a roadmap, and to commit to the process regardless of initial results. This is because, when you’re just starting out, the excitement from “newness” that fuels the initial “success” will dry out and if you’re continually going out only with a hope that something/anything will fall onto your lap, you will enter a phase where you’ll feel like you’ve seen everything and there’s nothing to photograph anymore.

Spent two hours this morning about a kilometer from home taking shots of the sun light as it lit up the hills to the west side of the valley. Had a great time, even waiting for the sun to break through the clouds. Cheers.
One of my insights from years of photography ties in with your learning and growth stage: Challenge your eye. If it feels like something is hard, try to puzzle it all the way out. For example: Shoot only Black and White to understand about light compositions and learn to see good light. Shoot vibrant Velvia for a while to learn how to compose and see good colour scenes. Shoot a 24mm or a 28mm for a while to learn how to compose clutter as context and work a scene. These are all challenges that took me a while to figure out and previsualise. There are future challenges still, but these are a few beginner ones that I encountered. Next I think I will have to develop a kit of techniques to utilise various moments spontaneously. I have been learning a lot from Lucasz of EYExplore. His GR III in Asakusa video is inspiring, and the way he approaches photography as a problem to be solved also.

Very relatable. One thing (or maybe more than one) that I noticed, however: social media and photography communities can be *very* dangerous for one's development as a photographer. They willingly or unwillingly introduce an unnecessary element of competition. Also, I noticed that if a group is run or dominated by professional (commerical) photographers, all entries are evaluated from that point of view: does it meet the industry standards? will it (potentially) sell? On the other hand, hobbyists often confuse "a good photo" and "a pretty subject/ scene". My point is, I totally agree that it's necessary to remember why you took up photography in the first place, and take others' opinions with a grain - or probably, a fistful - of salt.
Great advice. One thing that helps me with creativity is to vary my environments. I try to avoid spending too much time in cities or the countryside but rather I prefer to mix it up a lot- including the types of landscapes I’m in. That helps me stay fresh and challenged…. I so much identified with the "stay at home watching youtube videos" :D but I find it hard to keep the motivation going if the locations I go to are always the same...

Just start with an APS-C camera and 35mm full-frame equivalent fixed lense. That's enough for 90% in street photography. Or even just take your smartphone as they're getting better.

Last weekend am grabbed my GRiI for the first time, i was in a great area in Stuttgart and then i released that i forgot SD card 😂 next day visits beautiful town near , bringing my XH2S paired with 18-120mm. Takes great photos ( in my mind 😂) and want to record short clips and camera wont work. After few minutes realized that my CF card was not in 😂 that could only happen to me 🙂😃😄🙃

I am an X-T4 shooter and is looking for a rotating collar that can allow me to transition rapidly between landscape and portrait orientation on a tripod. Have you used any collar that worked well? or perhaps point me to the right direction looking for one? Thanks in advance.

Absolutely spot on, use many of these tips already and have improved a lot but also more I wanna practice. X100V helped me exponentially by always having it on me! If you’re big clunky set up is holding you back, not a bad idea to find something smaller you can take with you no problem 😉
The piece of advice about taking your camera everywhere is something I wish I did today, I was going out for lunch and I almost grabbed my camera and thought "nah I won't need it". Lo and behold when we finished lunch a huge downpour of rain kicked off and it was chaos on the streets, all I could think was "fuck I wish I brought my camera!". Lesson learned haha

Hint #1: Don't think you have to carry everything. I traveled to Europe with a 3 lens kit, and ended up only using one.
