Bob, that was very interesting! I didn't know about those. I used to live in dry Texas and never saw them. But I did once get a pretty strange claim from a friend when I lived in Texas. He said he had seen jellyfish in an isolated quarry lake in Texas. I thought he was crazy, but I went there with my inflatable canoe and snorkel, and sure enough. I found myself swimming with jellyfish. It was surreal. You must have them in Arizona too. The genus is Craspedacusta. Hope you can do a video on them!
I checked the internet and here are some places where the freshwater jellyfish has been found in Arizona: Hassayampa; Havasu-Mohave Lakes; Lower Colorado; Lower Lake Powell; Rillito; Upper Santa Cruz; Yuma Desert
I like this video and love the information. How amazing life is. Life surviving while the ephemeral pool has dried up. The cysts that don't desiccate and can hitch a ride on birds reminds me of seed dispersal of some species such as burs and dandelions. I couldn't see the three eyes of the triops. Thank you for this video! Very cool! Wish I was there!
Colette - Thank you. It would be fun to show you and others more of what we found in that stock tank. Yes, we video with an iPhone so closeups really don't work that well.
Found one of those in a puddle that was leftover in a wash after a monsoon rain in AZ when i was a kid in the 80s. Never knew what it was. Now I do!
I find those in puddles after it rains in Wilcox Az.
Interesting ! Thanks Bob.
Thanks Charlie!
