That banjo player kicks some serious ass !!!! These guys are definately going on my i-pod
You can have your children or the night still gives me chills. Glad to have grown up with the dropkicks
I came from seeing a comment on a thin Lizzy vid.and being from Boston. I just wanted to check them out..,..sure glad I did!!
I still love how the video opens. Banjo opening up for Mother Mary at a grotto. Proud Irish Catholic Americans! 🤘☘️🤘🎸🙏
Dropkick Murphys really is such a good band, i feel like they don't get the credit or publicity they deserve. So glad they were in The Departed though, fit perfectly.
there's the ones that love this band and the rest just haven't heard of them
@@tedmihalca i told several ppl about how good they are. some agreed, some did not. Most hilarious thou was one dude that said "nah ... they hop on the folk rock train but they have nothing to do with ireland, i think they are typical sellouts and posers ..." xD wth some ppl are just too dull to be real - i started a short monologue about the great famine and irish settlers in the US and how they keep their roots and heritage alive but he didnt get it ... "america is america ... there are no irishs ..." yeah whatever
this band is very famous in Massachusetts they are loved by everyone in Boston..because they made the victory anthem for the red sox
I needed to hear that 👍☘☘☘
Back in the 80’s when I was a kid I lived in a homeless shelter across from the building where this video was shot. It's on LongIsland, Massachusetts (Not NY). Closed down buildings and cemeteries, there's even a crematorium. The only building where they had space for us was in the one that housed people with contagious disease. It was terrifying as a child. However I do remember having an amazing view of the fireworks on the 4th of July, and for that moment everything seemed ok.
A creepy rundown building in Long Island Massachusetts... That narrows it down.
@Hot Rod Chick well I'll be damned only I hate be wrong but when ya right ya right I looked it up its hidden damn island that's why.
The drumming in this song is impeccable!
My dad was in the Dropkick Murphy's back in the day Harry Patterson
@American_Atheist1776 you sure got that child! serious skeptic over here
American_Atheist1776 might be difficult for a sexless incel like you to understand but out here in the real world people actually have partners that they have sex with and then they have kids. That includes members of rockbands.
I'm shipping up to Boston and State of Massachusetts are awesome.

*course
And those are both really good songs, personally I enjoy Rose Tattoo but I also love those ones:)
Who would have thought that a song with a banjo AND an accordian could kick this much ass?
Abused child here, spent 15 years in prison for my own stupidity, this is my ANTHEM!!!!
I live in Massachusetts and I approve! Lol I love these guys!
You should watch your mouth Groovy Satan because no one asked for you to open your mouth
All I see is a 50 gun array of 40 pounder guns wailing against the hull of a British frigate in the 19th century. “LOOSE!!!!!” *Boom*!!!!
I am russian, this music its my love, great band, love Ireland🇮🇪
Just won tickets to their show in November. Can't wait!
This bands been going on for 13 years and they are still to this day amazing!!!!
This was a major issue in Canada until quite recently. Now we have something called Trauma Informed Practice and they actually make a bit of effort to keep families together.
I'm in love with Dropkick Murphys! I only started listening to them awhile back after my brother posted the Christmas video on FB and compared it to our family. haha
I was playing this at work and someone asked, "It's this the intro to Nitro Circus?"
I had totally forgotten it was as I hadn't watched that show in the better part of a decade.
just saw these guys yesterday and they kicked ass
Love the Catholic imagery in their videos the weird thing about being an Irish Catholic, we're simply going to mass was a symbol of resistance, is even those that drift away and drift towards agnosticism the church still shapes the way we think and we tend to hold it and its symbols n reverence even if we don't really believe anymore
im mexican but i love irish music this song is awsome
could any one recomend any others?
I love this goddamn song so much. I wish I could sing like Al Barr.
I sang like Al Barr at their gig in Nottingham tonight....I already know I won't be able to talk tomorrow :)
Here's to ya Dropkick Murphy's Sláinte🥃🇮🇪 Happy Saint Patrick's day from a long time fan from Florida
I love their music 🎶
This song describes a whole bunch of peeps I’ve known growing up on the good ol’ “Irish Riviera.”
@XOmytubeXO I know how you feel. I was an irish DSS'R from the age of 13-18. and everything in the song rings true to me. I give serious credit to Dop Kick murphy's for addressing those of us who;ve been in that situation. It acutally inspires me to volunteer for those in similar situations. God Bless those with broken homes and broken heats..just know it can and will get better.
reminder you commented here 10 years ago. it's sad to hear your story by the way
Who watching in 2020?
This is never getting old
I have a list of Irish pub/punk rock... of I guess 1-2 times a week at least. :D
Always a Murphy’s fan. Just make sure you put their Christmas jam on this year. Cheers!!
thumbs up if good taste in music brought you here
mi brother lives in massachusetts, i love this song
cronos3mil gameplays, tutoriales y mas I live in Oklahoma but oh well this song is great
Incredible drummer...
Telly just picked me here...
@@king_ayce_2732 he made a montage on "Long block clutch" and he had this song in background which carried all of us here
2020 anyone? I've seen them 3 years ago in Seattle with Flogging Molly and it was one the best shows I've ever been too
January 2020 in Germany 👍Just in time before we went into lockdown. Loved it! 💚🍀
109 dislikes are going to see their bloody end from the Fighting 69th
Who cares if their Irish or not, lets grab a beer and party with this song on repeat.
Dark song to party too.. also ironic considering the lines about choosing between your kids and the night life lol but I get ya
I couldn't remember the name of this band so I typed in "Irish sounding rock band that uses banjo" and I still couldn't find them. Luckily I remembered something about "Murphy" in the name.
Song gives me chills, great message
the starting solo is amazing :)))
I'm Italian-Canadian and I love these guys my ipod is full of their songs!!!!!!!!!!!
Love the irish and everything related to them
Irish-American in this case, but they do try to keep up musical heritage traditions. A friend of mine from Ireland has pointed out that they've grown quite a following there, and nobody gives a shit that Americans are contributing goatloads to the world of Celt-punk
mate, this song be hitting different in 2020
@rajlle
I find it a shame that I only just discovered Dropkick Murphys after "The Departed," but that's sometimes how it goes. They've got some damn fine tunes, so who cares how people come to be fans?
Don't feel ashamed,i discovered them because this song is the intro for Nitro Circus. These guys are awesome.
Whether we're Irish or not, i think we can all agree this is a really good tune 🎶🎵
This song will always age beautifully with the band and there legendary music ❤❤❤
nitro circus couldn't pic a better song for their intro.... THE BEST
An Old Shoe remix of this song brought me to this MV.
Lord of the Weed ist sehr kool.
Love these guys!!!
Thought of this song given events of the last few days. Amazing that Massachusetts' social services are now a step UP from somewhere.
one of the best band ever!!!
Born and raised in Massachusetts. Gotta love it.
why is everyone making a big deal about where theyre from? I never cared where any of the bands i like are from, if its good music it makes no difference.
They are local heroes. Just how us Mainers love Stephen King...very capable and always a good time!
Clearly you're not from Boston or grew up in Boston so you have zero fahkin clue. Dropkick Murphys ARE Boston!!
A lot of recognition and love for bands is related to where they're from, AC/DC is a prime example, but also Iron Maiden from London, Metallica from San Fransisco or Motley Crue from LA
god one, if not the best, irish/american rock/folk band EVAR!
Very heartbreaking song. Very true.
Al Barr... You kick ass... Love The Bruisers! Respect from Portugal!
2020 and still listening this master piece
dropkick murphys...inspiring a whole new generation of american mics!
Not Irish but Scot-Irish and i still love Dropkick Murphys!
Im 100% irish and love these guys and you don't need to be Irish to love them. The more fans the merrier.
Since I listen to them I wanna live in Ireland but it is too expensive
Even in the summer Massachusetts looks cold.
I’m from Massachusetts and summer here is no colder than any northern state.
first time i ever heard of them was when i was watching boston red sox then these guys started playin for them
Actually it's about the impact of the NIGHTMARE epidemic of heroin/ painkillers on Massachusetts. For some reason, we're leading the nation in opiate ODs. Where I live it's especially bad. And the stuff keeps coming in unchecked. They do bimonthly drug sweeps where I am and nail 25-30 dealers at a time and 2 days later, 25 more step in to fill the gap. It's a horror show.
This songs intro is so catchy!
love this song
Happy St Patricks Day!!!
NITRO CIRCUS! YEAH BABY!
No dude. Irish pride world wide. Nitro is sick man I love that shit more then you but give credit where dueit's due. Travis knows nothing.
This was filmed on Long Island, MA in the Boston Harbor....The Original Long Island!
cool song :)
makes me wanna shake it out!
I love this kind of music.
BOSTON PROVOS...IE MARKY WAHLBERG ET ALL😄😄😄Magic music
wooooohoooo nitro circus, i knew this song long befor that show was made but that show made this song super big. great song and band.
How's not to love this! That music, that drive, those lyrics! That's enough for me to get so pumped to take on Superman! (ok, not Superman, but at least Steven Seagal in an eating competition)
2024 still awesome
Why isn't this album, wich imo is the best of them, not on Spotify goddammit
It is on Spotify open.spotify.com/album/0woGEtg6EaW4YpDz2Dv235?si=IysR5u9VShiLX3a9XqzK9g
@@mauricioperez6424 hmm maybe it is a country filter in spotify...i got the whole album "The Meanest Of Times" behind that link :-/
@@Sgmueden fuck you might be right, well, time to crack on the faithful ol VPN
seeing them tonight cant wait
Turbo pumped is awesome!
Saw them in Leeds a couple of months ago and if you get the chance definiteley worth the price of a ticket to watch
the instrumental of this was the intro to MTV's Nitro Circus
The whole song was dude. God if you think your rare enough to like action sports then be rare enough to like good music 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
@CrzyFooL67 it's some stunt show with Travis Pastrana. This is the song that plays on their title sequence.
2019!
every good song has a banjo
She had excuses and she chose to use them
She was the victim of unspeakable abuses
Her husband was violent, malicious, and distant
Her kids now belong to the state of Massachusetts
They've been taken away! Hey!
They've been taken away!
Billy was a bright one, Tommy's off his head
Mother loved them both the same, at least that's what she said
I don't predict the future, I don't care about the past
Send them both to DSS, now you've had your chance
The poison stole your babies
The judges took your rights
You can have your children... or the night!
I suppose you've been a victim, I suspect you may have lied
Have you lost all ambition, won't you give this thing a try
If you can't and you fail, you won't be the only loser
These kids don't stand a chance with you in their future
They've been taken away! Hey!
They've been taken away!
Billy was a bright one, Tommy's off his head
Mother loved them both the same, at least that's what she said

mumford and sons and dropkick murphys made me the banjo lover i am today!
NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
64 totally insane thumbdowners.....dropkick to their heads.
Everybody got his personal music taste, even if I don't understand why they listen to a song that they don't like
Quit polluting the comments section with ya racism. People are equal, it's called fraternity
I love listening to the Dropkick Murphy's, you ought a make a music video of Russell Crowe in the movie Cinderella as Braddock the famous Irish boxer, it would be awesome!
10 scariest words in the English language, "I'm here from the government and I'm here to help".
Anyone listening in 2020? Also, who is from... THE STATE OF MASSACHISETTS!? I am!
County Cork, Ireland. How the fuck did I get here? Great fucking song though
Greater Boston Boi here with the classic half irish, half italian family
In my past life I was probably Ir.Good whiskey and Dropkick Murphys :) :)
The song that describes my childhood And my mom. Glad that I was put in a foster family, it's the best thing that could happen... At least if you live in Denmark that is.
It's very catchy and sorry about the foster home dude that's terrible nobody wants that to happen
dennis oxbøll
Foster home yep I member kindergarten and then foster home no memories except the entrance, the lake, and then my memories start up again in 4th grade, must've been fuqed up stuff while there idwk.Mom dropped me off and picked me back up in time for 4h grade, now that's a messed up story for my teens to hear.
Hopefully it’s better in Denmark. In America, it’s set up as a for profit system. Most people are decent, but some are fucked beyond belief. It fucking sucks. Or sucked or whatever.
So beautiful.
the Intro with the banjo is really awesome
The entire song is awesome 🔥🔥🔥 Celtic Pride!
