- A brief chat and look at the reasons why Liverpool football club are now able to expand the Anfield road stand. Taking a look at past photographs of Anfield for a comparison on todays progress.
I'm a Sheff Utd supporter and have been to Anfield a few times, but one day sticks out more than any other was when Liverpool beat Leeds 2-0 to more or less win the league on 23 April 1973 (2 points for a win) me and my mate stood on The Kop that day and saw God,sorry Bill Shankly come out after game and stand with his arms outstretched I like everyone else on the Kop stood in awe at this humble working class man wow, loved Liverpool even before that day, well apart from when my Blades play them obviously, great vid and history, you can imagine what it looked like that day in 73,👍
Better than The Cricket Ground pal!
Thats for certain!
Nice to see Anfield as I remember it. Anfield Road terrace was where I stood for years, before it was seated. I was forced onto the standing kop. Whilst they rebuilt the kop, they temporarily put us in the seated Anfield Road for a season. As for the demolished houses. One still stands. The one where Liverpool was formed with the signing of a formation document by John Holding. It's the building on the corner of the Sir Kenny stand and Anfield Road strand.
Wow i didn't know that is it a private house or did Liverpool buy it?Should be a museum.
Thanks KC, there are two stands left to reach the same height as the new development, making the stadium equidistant is that doable, with your local knowledge cheers Mark
Good idea to give a bit of history! Looking forward to your next update on Monday, with some close ups of the upper tier developing.
I’m a Sunderland fan but Liverpool are my second team in the 70 80 90 seasons I’ve seen you have some amazing players what would Ian rush cost now kenny dal the list goes on the sound is going to be amazing mate
As an Arsenal fan it's really good to see that it's been possible to redevelop the traditional home - unfortunately not possible at Highbury for us. Great video - it'll be part of the social history of the club and city for years to come. Good job.
God i miss Highbury! Not even a Arsenal fan but that was such a special stadium!
Yeah, but they kicked people out of their houses
I really love Highbury, as Liverpool fan from Sweden, I used to travel to London and watch when Liverpool played away on Highbury. Great ground and atmosphere.
great video mate, shots are great. keep it up you'll go a long way
Did the tour a few days ago travelled four hours to do it! It is great to see where we walked and parked and also great to hear some history of the club we all love! Thanks for the video mate YNWA
You will if your from norway a long drive 😂😂😂
You are spot on with the height of the 1997 stand.
Worked on the project at the time and the overall height of the main roof girder was critical.
With regard to the stability, at the time there were different design codes for stadia.
Those having music concerts were designed for people standing and dancing and swaying etc.. Anfield Road was not designed for such concerts and that is the principle reason stewards ask spectators to keep seated.
During the testimonial match , a temporary scaffold tower fell over onto some metal decking and it made one hell of a racket and after investigation , some steel bolts had been omitted from the smaller girder during the main steel election. Hope this helps.
Thanks for finally explaining why present anfield Road stand was made so small in the first place. Remember years ago asking a brookside cast member I met in Newcastle night club this very same question. The things you do when the opportunity presents itself and you've got a few lagers inside of you. I just presumed he would know why. He didn't.
Great video, great piece of history on anfield road
Great vid mate thanks for giving us the history of the ground never knew about the coloured seats or the stand height very interesting.Have a lovely day.
Thanks, that was a nice video of the stand ,and where the houses used to be ,great stuff 👏
Top video. Great to see the aerial shots from the 80’s cut in with the recent developments.
Looking fantastic! Can you come up to Newcastle and try to figure out which way we are to angle our new ground? The only thing that hasn't been suggested is to turn the pitch upside down and dig downwards. You're really handy with that drone, you've got a sub off me.
Great knowledge! Always wondered why the Anfield Road stand wasn't build bigger! Thanks
Love the vids mate ,and the history of the beautiful place.keep up the good work .ynwa.
Main Stand was originally varnished wooden seats, painted red late 90s I think. Paddock was originally standing.
Paddock was seated early 90's so in '89 there were no red seats that side.
Hope this helps.
Excellent background details, brilliant.
Thanks for this video, and for giving a little bit of the history behind the Anfield road stand. Really enjoyed this.
Thank you for your hard work. 👍🏼😀I really enjoy your videos.
I have a photo on my wall, right next to where I'm sitting now,of the stadium back in the probably early 80s.The Anny Road was seated but didnt have the coloured seating yet. I think the bright colours coincided with the Crown Paints sponsorship, maybe? I remember a giant Crown Paints tin used to be put in the centre circle before a match and disassembled just before the kick off. Fun days.
As a kid in the 1980s I remember being slightly perplexed as to why there were different blocks of seating in a variety of garish colours in the Kemlyn and Anfield Road stands (IIRC the main stand had wooden seating).
I'm not sure I buy the explanation given in this video, principally because a few of those blocks (including the one right behind the goal) were still red, but also if you just wanted to improve the visibilty of red shirts in front of them you'd have chosen the one single colour which had the greatest constrast.
Wow, the top seats are gonna be a long way from the pitch. Maybe season tickets will come with a pair of binoculars. Nice video btw....great drone shots.....
Brilliant video again pal very insightful 👏🏾
I was at that game in the upper main stand against Celtic it was a Ronnie Moran testmoial friendly I remember seeing the ground shake when they Brought out Celtics European trophy at the start
It would be awesome if the club could expand the Sir Kenny Dalglish stand.
Check out any property website and you'll see that few if any of those properties are valued above £125,000. If the club offered to buy each one for £250,000 the total cost would come to no more than the price of one good player. Lots of new houses are being built just a couple of streets away too, so residents could easily stay in the area if they wanted. That said, the club's previous attempts to acquire properties in the local vicinity didn't exactly go well.
Defo need to do something fooking waiting list is to long.
The Kop will be the smallest stand
Nice one and thanks.
So what happend to the houses/flats where the stand is now being extended too? Im assuming Liverpool did the same as they did with the street behind the main stand, bought them, boarded them up etc etc untill only a few residents left?
Demolished them
I can see that 😂 There's a wacking gert stand being built where they were!! I meant more how did they become empty of occupants and into Liverpools possession but I'll Google it 👍🏼 great videos as always btw, loving the stadium updates!
Excellent video, learnt something, that’s always a good thing 👍
Good vid. Shocking to see the ground from above in 1989 and how old it looks compared to now.
Whatever happened to the restriction on 60K+ seats? I am sure during the Hicks & Gillette ownership debacle, when they promised the new stadium in the park, the capacity had to be limited to
What type of drone have you got. Great footage of a high quality 👏 👌
It’s a DJI Mavic 2 pro, and thank you
@@Kevcupo your welcome. Keep up the great photography
Nice! Your perspective is quite different from other similar channels.
Seeing as the houses right behind the ARS are no longer there, were they demolished during the 1997 rebuild?
Yes the club bought them and demolished them for further expansion
What kind of drone are you using
That’s a great little video bud respect from Ireland 🇮🇪 YNWA
I love these videos. Keep them coming mate 👍
Excellent video, best yet
how did you film this? Drone? It looks so stable!
So, are they rerouting that section of Anfield Rd they're building over?
I live in Teesside and Liverpool has always been my second team after the Boro. I have been following the Anfield road expansion with great interest. Can you tell me if supporters will be using this stand in the 22/23 season ? What will the capacity be for this season ?
Yes it will be ready for the 22/23 season and the capacity will be 61,000
It will be ready for the start of the 2023/24 season. The 2022/23 season just kicked off this weekend.
Poor you supporting the shittest team in the north east you cold have said Hartlepool pool or hull you should only support one team
Looks like the road itself (Anfield Road), won't be operable after construction is complete? Unless it's just a one way tunnel beneath the stand?
So Interesting mate, love these videos👏🏼
Do you think they’ll ever be able to extend the kop? It just looks so small with all the other stands now.
Not a reds fan I just like all things football so I found this video especially interesting and different and with good informational content so a big thumbs up from me.
Would have been a lot better if you would have done the VO off site.
Hi , wondering why they cannot round the stand off , similar to Old Trafford etc , would that not increase capacity as well .
Thankyou very informative.
LFC will need to purchase Skerries Rd & 1/2 of Wylva Rd....at the very least to work on the KD stand.
Also, they built the 2 new stand/extensions in parts....if they built them together, I think 1 corner would've been done also (extra 4-5k ppl) - just opinion.
Interesting vid :o)
You can also do videos about fans visiting anfield. More precisely when there are those big premier league and champions league matches. That would be cool.
I’ll be doing POV videos on match days
Anyone know how many of the houses behind the Kenny d stand are owned by Liverpool fc?
I don't believe LFC own any, the only ones LFC have purchased in the past were the old 2 up 2 down in Kemlyn Road, the big detached houses directly behind the existing Anfield Road Stand and maybe a few for the Main Stand development.
Others who moved out may have been from housing associations and were promised new relocated houses which is happening
@@rosse6705 they OWN the whole road execept for 1 evil . ie used to be called bitter now called EVIL . 1 everton owner
@@rosse6705 but I believe that it is the most probably way to expand and reach 70k seats in our beauty stadium. The kop is obiously more difficult to expand.
Can you do a similar video on how the Centenary Stand could be improved....regarding those rows of houses behind it?
Yeah I’ll do some research and try and get a video out next week
@@Kevcupo can you do me a favour? Point out how almost none of those rows of houses have any off street parking and could not be built these days as houses now must have at least one parking space off street. IMHO, they are all unsuitable for modern living and should be demolished anyway, regardless of any stadium plans. Compare the housing there with how the houses in Birkenhead that were very similar to these have been abolished and more suitable housing has been built and it's made a massive difference. Anfield is a poor part of town for housing....too many cramped into a small area....Liverpool Council need to start demolishing these unsuitable houses far more and build better housing to improve the area. Birkenhead is setting the standard Liverpool council need to follow.
I’ll bring that up in my next video
@@rosse6705 I publicly endorse the demolishing of terrace houses and replacing them with modern houses with some off street parking. I have no problem in demolishing those houses and replacing them, regardless of the stadium. However, a far better solution for both parties (the club and the homeowner) is for them to be bought out at a premium and they buy a better house in a better area and accept that they did well out of the club. Those houses are worth about £100k. Maybe a bit more. Pay them double their worth and that will compensate them for their "loss" and move them up the property ladder. There are no losers here and I reject that I gave "a poor excuse to knock 3 rods of houses down to start another expansion". The houses are not suitable for modern living even without any expansion. I cited examples in Birkenhead where the same type of houses were removed and this is what should happen as part of an area regeneration. The council are happy to force the club to invest in the area yet they won't do it themself. The truth is, a LOT of the houses in the area of Anfield need demolishing. You can argue against it if you like but it's objectively true, those rows after rows after rows of houses are badly designed and make the area deprived.
The council need to regenerate the area. The club have done their bit.
@@rosse6705 yes, I think the council should redevelop large parts of the city but particularly Anfield for two reasons. There is far too many of this type house in Anfield. Secondly, the council barks at the club but doesn't pull its own weight. Look at the stadium....it's a brilliant symbol of success....and then look at the area around it. It's poverty stricken and it looks poverty stricken.
The council are slowly doing some regeneration in small areas but if they focussed on the area of Anfield, they could actually work WITH the club, for a greater good and get rid of so much ugly housing and replace it with better housing and actually improve the area.
There were no real complaints behind Anfield road end but for ONE house. One.
Even so, I'm looking at the wider area, not just the clubs perspective and I'm acknowledging the work that the council should be doing. It's a 2 way street and I don't see the council doing their bit at all.
it goes back so far compared to the old one ! what is happening with the road below
What will be the capacity for this season if Anfield road stand still under construction ?
The stand will be open as normal while the construction is ongoing
Anfield road is a public road ..will the road itself remain open after the build ?
Yes, it’s just getting rerouted slightly
That solar power idea is genius 👌
As an Anny rd visiter on occasions (kop man myself ) i think to take the stand higher back then you had as you alluded to buildings behind so they were restricted, the higher you go the further back you have to go as the new development is proving and main stand did , eventually Breck rd will be redirected around the ground allowing the Kop to be taken higher in keeping with the rest of the stadium, hopefully it continues on one continues line and not another level if that's possible!!!.
Brilliant, mate.
Excellent video!
well done mate . x x x x x x
I love how you can see Everton’s stadium in the background 😂😂😂
Great vid!
mate u skippedover the houses at the back. did liverpool buy them out ?? whats the craik .
yes the houses on Anfield road were all bought in the 90’s
I liked how you spliced in the old photos. Looking back it wasn't an especially attractive ground (that's not meant as blasphemy) and even until quite recently seats in the paddock had some antiquated loos and food offering etc. It was very much the fans that made the stadium and still, to a degree, does. But just picking up on the coloured seats point that a few others have commented on and given alternative view (I especially like the Crown Paints one) but my recollection is it was imported from Ibrox and when Souness came down we changed the colours of the seats over... Probably wrong but I disliked the multi-coloured blocks as much as anything Graeme did wrongly during his poor time at the helm and likely I'll pin anything shit from roughly that time on him...
How did they reach an agreement to demolish all those houses?
As a Liverpool fan Ireland it’s great to see near impossible to get tickets now… looking forward to hopefully more ticket availability
As an Evertonian, I do like how much Anfield has progressed. I'm just sad that one day I'll be witnessing the demolition of Goodison Park. We won't be seeing aerial images of the two stadiums separated by the park. When I watch my first game at the new stadium at Bramley Moore Docks I'm going to hate it.. And not being Everton are doing shite either XD
(I'll probably get the typical hate/trolling from Liverpool supporters, comes with being an Everton supporter. I'm used to it, good luck on the season lads)
Your new stadium will be boss as well and it's good for the City of Liverpool ....good luck for the season 👍
@@robbiekop7 I hope so. Thanks!
I am one of the few who follow Liverpool but still want Everton to do well (just not as well as us). I hope both our seasons pick up.
Not quite GOODISON PARK But never mind💙💙💙
That’s true pal…………. It’s definitely not a toilet! Lol. 🚽🚽
“There was a massive backlash from residents”. Must be Everton fans.
Not a Liverpool fan but never send friend for a pie at half time on The Kop. You will never see them again.
He has to come back to see 👀 the second half 😂
Will be like watching ants if your sat up there at the top
as usual, you can skip the first few mins
I’m sorry, but I do need to offer up some sort of introduction. I do appreciate the feedback though
@@Kevcupo nah dont be sorry, its a good vid. just sorting the camera out takes a while for the vid to get going. maybe clip the video together with a voice over. then again, it would take more time but it would probably be worth it for the viewer.
Yeah I get what you mean. I just like to start my videos as I’m seeing for the first time as you ‘ the viewer’. So I’m really starting off by exploring and it gives me the chance to offer up my intro while flying in to position.
Lest you all forget Liverpool fc let the area slide into depravity. Made compulsory purchase orders o homes ...... and put some of their fans out of a home!! All in the name of expanding. But that never gets mentioned. Ashamed of nothing.
Far too lop-sided just like St James Park & they should have moved! If you class yourself as one of the biggest clubs side in world football you have to be looking for a brand new build of 70-75.000 capacity at least & when Anfield is finished at around 60,000 that's it as building more is out of the question....
More tickets available at Anfield. There will be dancing in the streets of Olso, Bergen etc at that news 😂😂😂😂😂
There attempt of YNWA will still be as quiet even with an extra 7000 😂

99% of all english stadiums look like shit. if you wont move to the outskirts like everton are doing with a awesome new stadium then you are always gonna have a shit stadium. same as all the others that have 4 stands that all look totally different, just look at how the europeans build their new stadiums, they make all ours look like shit.
im not a big footy fan anymore, in fact i never watch it anymore apart from the big england matches, but used to go to main road all the time, what a shit hole that was, best thing city did was move out of there, now look what they have over the etihad!
best thing everton will do is move out, liverpool should do the same, they deserve a huge stadium that actually looks like one building not 4 pieced together, must be my OCD but the 4 stand look is good for the 1940's but not anymore, symetrical stadiums with a roof that flows is the way to go imo.
but if you must stay at anfield for historys sake then you have really fucked up building that new stand when you could of waited for everton to move, then just move over the park for a couple of seasons in their old ground, flattened anfield and built a real stadium worthy of liverpool.
Your videos are slow and boring
Get to the point
