Also for DUAL CARE emulsion how long will i need if using a 1000 watt Halogen light about 23 inches away from screen and a high opaque film positive? +print allday When properly stored emulsion should last on the screen as long as it does in the bucket especially with photopolymers. Dual cure has such a short shelf life either way. The older emulsion is, generally speaking, the slower it will get. I cannot tell you exposure times since I am unfamiliar with the speed of the emulsion, the quality of your film positive, and the UV output of your exposure source. I am in the process of building a drying rack. Thanks for the tip on painting the wood. It "wood" have slipped my mind. After watching a few videos, I think I will build a wood frame leaving the sides open. Build my screen frame rack slots with in the framing and then use corrugated plastic for all the sides. The unit wont be a heavy beast this way. It will still be dark while allowing air to enter easily. Now I gotta go to The Depot! Use and abuse them, they will cut anything for you. Then you can concentrate on just building it up!

Great video, I've been screenprinting for thirty years, and have a question for you, maybe a future video topic. What do you think about the future of screenprinting? computer printers and sign-writers certainly have had an impact especially with stickers and real estate signs. and even T-shirts. Is screenprinting a dying art? or are there new markets opening up? would be cool to hear your thoughts on this.

What's up cats love the vids man. I'm using chromablue emulsion and my time to burn it a is at 8 minutes. I'm get a 7 with my 21 step wedge but there would be time where I have to burn a screen at 5 minutes. It confuses me I did a test with a same mesh count in all. What can cause it to burn at a faster time. I live in fl. I'll let dry over night too.
I have a question about size of scoop for screen. For a 20x24 screen, what actually is the best size scoop? should I go smaller if I don't need to use the whole screen for a smaller image? say a 16" or should I go for larger and fill screen anyway? I think its a 20" that fits the 20x24? to be honest I didnt measure if its the actual frame size or screen size. Thank you! Glad you enjoy my work and you're welcome. For a 20x24 screen I use a 16" scoop coater going longways. You can use smaller scoop coaters for smaller designs if you need to conserve emulsion. But for a commercial shop we usually coat the entire screen since we usually will try to use the entire screen even if we have to gang up art on one screen. MORE IS BETTER! Have you remade the dry box yet? I have one made of wood with computer fans all inside but I want to convert a drying rack that I got for free, so i would like to see if you have made any improvements to your design. My main issue is (from what im understanding at least) is that you use tape to keep the door closed. Have you found a more permanent way of doing this with a latch or something?

A to high EOM gives trouble too! the screen have to clear after the stroke and no ink should sit in the mesh. but a to high EOM could leave ink in the mesh. then you will add more pressure to to squeegee to clear the ink from mesh, but then you push the ink in the substrate....do we like the ink in the substarte or on top of it? seems to be a cat jumping behing his own tail. ;)
+Greg Mertes A 1/1 coat with substrate side down will not cause a problem with emulsion over mesh. You don't need more than a 1/1 normally. The stencil will visibly have an ink well and you'll be able to feel it with your hand but it would not be a problem with proper flood and stroke techniques. If you do not food and stroke properly you will leave ink in the mesh any way you coat the screen. With HO inks on dark garments we use proper off contact with the proper squeegee and the 1/1 EOM ink well does the job of leaving a space for higher ink volumes printed.... only if your print stroke is proper. If not then you have issues. As we move up in mesh counts we lose that naturally since higher mesh counts hold less emulsion and create thinner stencils. But if you have an issue with EOM and printing or what have you then try tweaking your food and stroke. I can print an excellent print with just about any EOM screen due to my experience in printing manually. About a darkroom setup, what if there was sun light coming into room but can easily be covered up. Would you suggest to use to cover the windows completely of sunlight or would you use red film to cover those said windows?

No I still need to repair it... LOL. The tape actually works very well and you can change it out when you need to. The best idea someone gave me was to tape in magnetic strips on each side so they attract each other to seal the door. Or maybe Velcro would work. Btw, how did you finally get your light safe storage rack door to seal shut? Also, do u like the steel back lite spray booth vs the white one in an earlier video?

I would assume it's more durable and doesn't stain. Not to mention that snazzy foot pedal for the light. I tried the discount code on Ryonet but it wouldn't work.
