Very interesting and very informative, but I would have loved to have learned, historically, what causes strongmen to fall from power and what can we learn and apply to the forth coming Trump martyrdom?
I am commenting on a two-year-old video. Today is Sunday, September 24, 2023 @ 11:02 am (EST), and she said even though Trump is leaving office, his victimhood cult will be more active than ever. Damn, that aged well.
What is a Cult? Psychiatrist Robert Jay Lifton, who once taught at Harvard Medical School, wrote a paper titled Cult Formation in the early 1980s. He delineated primary characteristics, which are the most common features shared by destructive cults, destructive cults like Trumpism. 1. A charismatic leader, who increasingly becomes an object of worship as the general principles that may have originally sustained the group lose power. That is a living leader, who has no meaningful accountability and becomes the single most defining element of the group and its source of power and authority.
2. A process of indoctrination or education is in use that can be seen as coercive persuasion or thought reform commonly called "brainwashing". The culmination of this process can be seen by members of the group often doing things that are not in their own best interest, but consistently in the best interest of its leader. 3. The exploitation of group members by the leader and the ruling members. Here are 10 warning signs of a potentially unsafe group or leader. • Absolute authoritarianism without meaningful accountability. • No tolerance for questions or critical inquiry. • No meaningful financial disclosure regarding budget or expenses, such as an independently audited financial statement. • Unreasonable fear about the outside world, such as impending catastrophe, evil conspiracies and persecutions. • There is no legitimate reason to leave, former followers are always wrong in leaving, negative or even evil. • Former members often relate the same stories of abuse and reflect a similar pattern of grievances. • There are records, books, news articles, or broadcast reports that document the abuses of the group/leader. • Followers feel they can never be "good enough". • The group/leader is always right. • The group/leader is the exclusive means of knowing "truth" or receiving validation, no other process of discovery is really acceptable or credible. As we can all see, when it comes to the warning signs and characteristics of a cult, Trump and his followers check most of the boxes. Is the Trump presidency a religious cult? | Reza Aslan ua-cam.com/video/KS7pnPlQLcY/v-deo.html
Many families, communities, churches, and other long-standing established organizations and institutions in society can find themselves cast under this same pall The mentality or worldview that drives some of us to seek out this type of group and some of us to be this type of leader seems like one of the major options in the human operating system This is what people struggle with at the personal micro level and society macro level -willingness to exploit fellow people ruthlessly(usually camouflaged) and some really wanting to be exploited 🤷♀️🤷♂️ This seems to be the 'darkness' so much of collective wisdom over the ages warns us about
@@guerillagrace I don't know that anyone wants to be exploited, just that some are too ignorant and gullible to see that they are. TV evangelists like Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn, Joyce Meyer and Paula White to name a few, enrich themselves using the dumb group-think herd mentality as leverage. These people like Trump are shameless and have zero empathy or compassion. They are just frauds, con artists and grifters.
@@bipolarbear9917 So sad right? A better way I could have said that might be that the willingness to be exploited is often masked by rather noble sounding sentiments Self-flagellating martyrs Suffering to be worthy to enter the kingdom of heaven Only the meek inheriting the earth Heroically marrying all the virgins you can handle in the afterlife The grooming of targets to solicit their cooperation with the predators is insidious with often lifelong, even generational consequences Doubly so if the targets are raised that way and experience the later nostalgia to uphold the way things were Its fascinating and frightening to think that there is such a fine line delineating whatever ideal we can rightfully aspire to and its corrupted exact opposite
Trump has litterly done that his whole life. His ex business partners actually warned us of this. He has been claiming victim from day 1. His crowd size was under counted. 2. Her popular votes were because they brought in bus loads of illegals to vote fraugintly. 3. Russia witchhunt 4. The news is being mean to him.
John Mc Cain and Mitt Romney fell in line also. John voted with DJT most of the time. Mitt Romney was kissing his arse at first because he wanted to be a part of his cabinet. The only reason John McCain voted to not get rid of the ACA is because he was dying which tells me that he already knew before his prognosis that it was wrong to try to overturn it.
So how does it end? Authoritarianism has been growing in the GOP for years, Trump got more votes in 2020 than 2016. The trend line is going up for autocracy. What happens in 2024? What is the thing that finally breaks the trend?
I think the victimhood point is very important and difficult to deal with. That’s why trump supporters hate the media because they feel they are always so negative when reporting about him, ignoring the fact that trump continuously says and does outrageous things. I remember when trump attended a fund raiser during the time he was possibly infectious with Covid and rather than be incredulous that he would endanger the attendees at this event, people like Joe Piscopo we're quite vocal about praising the president showing strength and determination showing up in person and speak to these people.
As the Roman Republic expanded, they grew richer, but unfortunately the wealth is not distributed equally. The rise of the super-rich also happened in Roman Republic. As the aristocrats got the most share of the wealth from the newly conquered territories. Roman Republic have 2 political parties during that time: the liberal "populares" and the conservative "optimates". The Populates want to reform the Republic and distribute the wealth for peasants and urban workers. Optimates is the keeper of traditional aristocratic order. Their conflict grew larger and more violent over time. After series of civil wars and military defeats, the generals in Roman military grew in power and popularity. One day with enough support from the senate, The military installed a "dictator" as the Roman Republic was transformed into an Empire.

This was really good. I feel like you guys should have chatted longer.
I wish they did too!
The book sounds really interesting! I’m gonna check out the audio.
And here we are 4 years later. Please have her back to tell us what we are in for. If we should flee Giliad before its too late.
Give my life for him? I wouldn't pee on Trump if he were on fire.
I would shit on him
Hope Ruth is ok. That's a worrying cough.
Awesome Awesome INTERVIEW!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
And all we need to look at is how Mussolini ended. Dragged out into the street, killed and hung upside down. There endeth the lesson.
My granddaughter was shocked at the parallels between Mussolini & Trump. She's a High School senior.
The Very Far Right of the Republican Party was so very evident when Obama came into the office.
I do wish people would stop referring to trump as a strongman. He is one of the weakest males ever. A bully, a coward does not equate to strength.

Thank you for having such amazing guests on! 💜
Some excellent observations by Prof. Ben-Ghiat, sadly confirming what most of us foreign observers have been warning for years.
The challenge now for the remaining ‘traditional’ part of the GOP, is whether it can now somehow use the election defeat to extricate itself from the corrosive tentacles of the Trump movement, or more likely be totally consumed by it...

Great guest.
Awesome interview, David.
she is good, make her co host
Wow. Great interview. She just sold another book!
Good conversation/interview, cheers
Great interview David! This one was very informative
Need to get that book.👍.
I wish David had asked more about why the dictators discard those that help them rise to power- is it that they don’t want to be beholden or be seen as needing help ?
I really enjoyed this. Please have more experts on.
BRILLIANT lady.
It’s late in the game to have this conversation David. We should have had it in 2015.
Excellent breakdown.
Good interview and very insightful.
Very interesting and very informative, but I would have loved to have learned, historically, what causes strongmen to fall from power and what can we learn and apply to the forth coming Trump martyrdom?
I really enjoyed this.
Saludos David desde Costa Rica
Fascinating
Excellent interview as always !! Trump is an authoritarian
yuuuup! Thank you!
I am commenting on a two-year-old video. Today is Sunday, September 24, 2023 @ 11:02 am (EST), and she said even though Trump is leaving office, his victimhood cult will be more active than ever. Damn, that aged well.
Smart lady well spoken, but giving it everything she can to fight off a coughing fit. And I have been there. Well done to her.
Trump is not an alpha man, he's a dork.

A better way I could have said that might be that the willingness to be exploited is often masked by rather noble sounding sentiments Self-flagellating martyrs Suffering to be worthy to enter the kingdom of heaven Only the meek inheriting the earth Heroically marrying all the virgins you can handle in the afterlife
The grooming of targets to solicit their cooperation with the predators is insidious with often lifelong, even generational consequences Doubly so if the targets are raised that way and experience the later nostalgia to uphold the way things were
Its fascinating and frightening to think that there is such a fine line delineating whatever ideal we can rightfully aspire to and its corrupted exact opposite
@@guerillagrace Too right!
Very interesting. Sam seder also interviewed her. Scary stuff. We re "ok" for 4 years, but my god we have to thimnk our way through it in a smart way.
Playing a victim..vital part of success of mob leaders
Trump has litterly done that his whole life. His ex business partners actually warned us of this. He has been claiming victim from day 1. His crowd size was under counted. 2. Her popular votes were because they brought in bus loads of illegals to vote fraugintly. 3. Russia witchhunt 4. The news is being mean to him.
How about telling us how we get strongmen too crash and burn?
WoW! 100 years. That's ancient.
at this point it would not surprise me if the narcissist discards his children
Never forget that quite a lot of them are "elected" n the beginning. Our democratic process are not a warranty to get rid of those dangers.
No one:
Ruth: My book
