That quiet chorus in the background is so fascinating to me, since, from what I can tell, it’s used nowhere else in the entire rest of the soundtrack. This is really significant, since both games love scattering musical themes and letimotifs everywhere you look. I mean, just look at LOVE, or God’s Call, or Buddy’s Theme as examples. This melody is a song that feels extremely personal to Brad. Plus, beyond the fact that they’re literally singing “LISA”, it’s in a major scale, almost like a Christmas carol, it feels so vastly different from every other motif associated with LISA. For once, Brad is able to strip away the painful memories of Marty’s abuse and his grandfather’s macho Armstrong teachings, and he can actually recall the good times that he had with Lisa. For one moment, Brad can remember the happy times with the sister that he loved so much.
Good ear! The quiet chorus in the background is a slowed down version of Mozart's Ave Verum Corups. I can't begin to say what it means or why it's here though.
@@Jacksonart55 I looked up that piece, and apparently it’s a motet by Mozart, and the words are taken from the Latin hymn “Ave verum corpus”. The text is about finding redemption through suffering, and frankly, that feels very fitting for Brad’s journey up to this point (since I believe this plays when climbing down the rope after the Marty fight). He has suffered and endured such horrible things, and through that suffering, he can achieve redemption, and he can attempt to heal the scars of grief from Lisa’s suicide.
@@Poondaedalin god, that revelation made me choke up for a moment. just knowing that his path doesn't change at all when this happens, makes me even worse about Brad's fate, it's just all the more bitter in the end, knowing he had a chance of healing...
Bradley, it's over. She drifts further and further away. Like a ghost clinging to its flesh, refusing to obey. Words no longer suffice, there's nothing more you can say. Face what's in your heart. I'm waiting... deep beneath the decay. I'm lost, but I'm not gone. I will never be gone and I will never go. I will be seen. No friends No brothers No fathers No mothers. Just me. Many sought refuge, I let them all in. Thousands of voices, barking beneath my skin. As I drown in fire, I can't help but grin. Knowing that silence....was my gravest sin... Let her see me for who I am. For who I never got the chance to be. For whom no man could ever see. No friends No brothers No fathers No mothers. Just me. Deep below. A dark endless sea. A pain slumbers, one we'll never flee. Give us the strength, let your memories set us free. So that when we next meet. I may grow into a mighty tree. No friends No brothers No fathers No mothers. Just me.
i guess it is called lisa the painful for a reason. i cried at the painful and joyful endings but the nightmare sequence gave me the best sob session i've ever had

My nightmare is finally complete. Was it all a dream?
Nothing worthwhile is ever easy.

Is it finally over?
It's not?
Of course it's not over.
This is so good.
