Have you noticed any polarisation across the image from the X4 VND?
Red's biggest flaw IMO is not having internal ND's on their Raptor cameras, I don't understand why they didn't add them. ND mounts are usually a good solution, but you really have to be careful with the lenses you choose. I'd rather them up the price and size of their camera's a little than buy a third party system that may or may not work with the lenses I choose. Once you start getting to the Ranger camera's, there are generally other camera's at the price I'd prefer to use.
Nice!!
Does the wheel to dial exposure can be used with a follow focus motor ?
I would imagine you probably could but I’d be afraid of calibrating it at hard stops.
are there any drop-in filter adapters that would work with the viltrox epic lenses? or is the flange depth just too deep for rear filters?
Great test as usual - what lens is @11:17?
Sigma 65mm cine prime
@@NorthwestCameraCo I’m shocked 😳 the bokeh looks very vintage like
@@heroaomedia Galen and I were both trying to asses if it was the lens or the rear filter doing something interesting. Reminds me of some looks of the arri sig primes with new impression filters
How's the IR pollution at the high end of the ND range on the Breakthrough? Couldn't quite see if there were issues in these tests shown.
Performs really well. Surpisingly well actually. Raptor and Komodo already have pretty decent IR protection, but the breakthrough VND and ND really hold their own against the IRND set from Tokina.
@@NorthwestCameraCo Awesome, thanks so much for the reply and info.
Thanks for this! Does it work with NiSi Athena Primes?
It does!!!
@@NorthwestCameraCoyay thanks!
Just received mine today. Is there a slight wiggle of the filter when inserted into the slot of the PL adapter? Also I noticed I’m getting a polarizing rainbow effect when looking through windows. Is this normal?
yea there should be a tiny bit of play. And window depends on a couple things, is there a screen in the window, sometimes the moire from those can cause a bit of a rainbow effect, and if the windows themselves are polarized.
Yea I would say maybe the windows are polarized. We’ve shot so many windows with ours and have never had that issue.
Would you still choose this system over the RED eND system if cost wasn’t a factor?
I really would.
@@NorthwestCameraCo thanks. Any specific reason? More lens compatibility?
Are they actually manufacturing them now and sending them out?
Indeed they finally are.
Do they plan on doing one in EF ?
It isn't on their website as "Coming soon".
EF is a dying breed, RF is going to be the new standard in the next year
True but I Think It will remains a standart for Cinemods Leica R / Contax / FD / Minolta etc etc@@chrisjollylikestofilm
Awesome video dude! I want to test these on my helium
Thanks a bunch. Do they make a mount for dsmc2?
@@NorthwestCameraCo it shows one on their website, I hope they are still making them
does the Nanomorph PL fit?
They don't fit with the Kippertie revolva, don't think they'd fit with Breakthrough either.
Currently between this and the Mofage Poco. Very tough decision.
Personally I think the VND is better on breakthrough not to mention has compatibility with more sets of lenses.
@@NorthwestCameraCo good to know! 🙌
Tokina looks miles sharper, I think 4x5 filters like Schneider will be obsolete in terms of glass quality .
Wow! very little color shift! I have the Nisi True color VND 1-5 stops and I can still see a color shift.
I also own the NIsi True color VND 1-5 stops. I get IR pollution creeping in at around 4-5 stops with the NIsi on my Red Komodo and no IR cut filter.
@@dustinschmidtphoto Totally true, the Komodo and the Raptor have a serious IR Pollution issues when used with NON IR NDs. Its sad, I have a DSMC2 Gemini as well and I can use the True Color with no IR Issues at the full 5 stops of ND.
